The Yankees lose their second in a row to lose series to the Braves

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Atlanta Braves by the score of 10-5 on Wednesday afternoon. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx,NY. The loss was the second in a row for the Yankees after a ten game winning streak. Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and struggled. It was a good day for the offenses as their were a combined nine homeruns which set a new record for the new Yankee Stadium. 
Hughes pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and six runs. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out five, Hughes suffered his sixth loss of the season. Cody Eppley pitched an inning striking out one, Clay Rapada pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out four and Cory Wade pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run. Boone Logan pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and Freddy Garcia pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts. Tommy Hanson won his eighth game of the season pitching five innings and giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and five strikeouts. Jonny Venters pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out one, Chad Durbin pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and O’Flaherty pitched an inning giving up two hits and striking out one. Kris Medlen pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Derek Jeter had a hit, RBI and drew a walk, Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI. Robinson Cano had two hits and an RBI, Nick Swisher drew a walk and Eric Chavez had a hit, RBI and drew a walk. Mark Teixeira had a hit, Russell Martin had a hit and drew two walks. Martin and Teixeira each had a double. Jeter, Chavez, Rodriguez and Cano each had a homerun. The Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base. Martin committed an error.

Michael Bourn had a hit, Martin Prado had three hits and two RBI and Dan Uggla had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Freddie Freeman had a hit and three RBI, Jason Heyward had two hits and three RBI and Ben Francisco had a hit. David Ross had two hits and an RBI. Prado had a double, Freeman, Prado and Ross each hit a homerun. Heyward hit two homeruns. The Braves were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. Bourn and Francisco each had a stolen base.

Uggla hit an RBI single and Freeman hit a two run homerun in the first inning. It was 3-0 Braves. Jeter hit a homerun to make it a 3-1 game in the bottom of the first inning. Prado hit a solo homerun in the third inning to push the lead to 4-1. Heyward hit a solo homerun in the fourth to make it a 5-1 game and Ross hit a solo homerun making it 6-1. Chavez hit a solo homerun in the fifth making it 6-2 and Rodriguez and Cano hit back-to-back homeruns in the sixth to make it a 6-4 game. The Yankees cut the lead to one run in the seventh. Granderson hit an RBI single. Freeman grounded out and Heyward hit a two run homerun in the eighth inning making it a 9-5 game. The Braves would tack on a final run in the ninth on a Prado RBI single. The final score was 10-5 Braves.

The Yankees lost the last two games of this series to lose two out of three. The Yankees will have the day off on Thursday and then take on the New York Mets in the Subway Series at Citi Field over the weekend. The Yankees record fell to 41-27 and the Braves record improved to 37-32.
