The New York Yankees are shutout by the Kansas City Royals



The New York Yankees were defeated on Friday night by the Kansas City Royals.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 1-0.  James Shields and Michael Pineda hooked up in a great pitching matchup.  The Yankees couldn't do much of anything and the only run scored by the Royals was unearned. 

Pineda pitched seven innings giving up three hits and an unearned run.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out four and lost his fourth game of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and David Robertson pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

James Shields won his 13th game of the season pitching 8 1/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs with no walks and six strikeouts.  Wade Davis earned his first save of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and striking out both batters that he faced. 

Derek Jeter had a hit, Brett Gardner had a hit and Chase Headley had a hit.  Gardner hit a double and the Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Antoan Richardson had a stolen base and Headley committed an error. 

Nori Aoki had a hit and an RBI, Salvador Perez had two hits and the Royals were 1-1 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Aoki was caught stealing. 

The only run of the game was scored on an RBI single by Aoki in the third inning.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday late afternoon.  The series will conclude on Sunday afternoon with Derek Jeter Day.

The New York Yankees walk off with a win over the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Chris Capuano started and didn't pitch too well but the bullpen was great.  Mark Teixeira and Chase Headley hit homeruns in the ninth to win the game. 
Capuano pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs.  He walked one and struck out two.  Rich Hill pitched to one batter and struck him out, Esmil Rogers pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one and Josh Outman retired the only batter that he faced.  Shawn Kelley pitched 1 1/3 innings and he struck out two batters and Adam Warren won his third game of the season pitching a scoreless inning. 
Brandon Workman pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs.  He walked two and struck out five.  Tommy Layne pitched an inning walking one, Junichi Tazawa pitched a perfect inning and Koji Uehara pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs for his fifth loss of the season and fifth blown save. 
Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Derek Jeter had a hit and two RBI and Brett Gardner had a hit.  Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI, Teixeira had two hits and an RBI and Headley had a hit and an RBI.  Stephen Drew drew a walk, Zelous Wheeler had  a pinch hit walk and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Gardner and Jeter each hit a double and Teixeira and Headley each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Warren committed an error. 
Brock Holt had a hit and an RBI, Mookie Betts had a hit and David Ortiz had two hits and three RBI.  Mike Napoli had two hits, Allen Craig drew a walk and Christian Vasquez had a hit.  Vasquez hit a double, Holt hit a homerun and Ortiz hit two homeruns.  The Red Sox were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Betts had an outfield assist.
The Red Sox took a 1-0 lead on an Ortiz solo homerun in the first.  They increased their lead to 3-0 in the third on a two run homerun by Ortiz.  The Yankees came back in the third with three runs to tie the game. Jeter hit a two run double and Beltran hit an RBI single.  The Red Sox took a 4-3 lead on a Holt solo homerun in the fifth.  The Yankees in the ninth hit two solo homeruns by Teixeira and Headley to win the game 5-4.  The Yankees have won two games in a row and will begin a  very important three game series with the Kansas City Royals on Friday night. 

The New York Mets take the rubber game 4-3 over the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 4-3.  Jacob deGrom started and pitched well and the bullpen was ok.  Juan Lagares had two hits and Matt den Dekker had three to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched six innings giving up six hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out six.  Buddy Carlyle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Dario Alvarez pitched to one batter and gave up a hit and Carlos Torres pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run.  Jennry Mejia saved his 23rd game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a walk and striking out one. 

Tom Koehler pitched seven innings and gave up five hits and two runs.  He walked four and struck out ten.  Mike Dunn lost his sixth game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up two hits and two runs.  He walked none and struck out one,  Bryan Morris pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Chris Hatcher pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Lagares had two hits, den Dekker had three hits and drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit and drew a walk.  Travis d'Arnaud had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit, two RBI and drew three walks and Dilson Herrera had an RBI.  Ruben Tejada had a hit, den Dekker hit a double , Tejada and d'Arnaud also hit a double.  Nieuwenhuis hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

Christian Yelich had two hits and an RBI, Donovan Solano had a hit and drew a walk and Giancarlo Stanton had two hits and an RBI.  Casey McGehee had a hit and an RBI, Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a hit and drew a walk and Luke Hechavarria had a hit and drew a walk.  Koehler had a hit, Saltalamacchia and Hechavarria each hit a double and Stanton hit a homerun.  The Marlins were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the third McGehee hit an RBI single to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Nieuwenhuis hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  Yelich hit an RBI single in the seventh to tie the game at two.  In the eighth d'Arnaud hit an RBI double and Herrera grounded into a force out scoring another run and making it a 4-2 Mets lead.  Stanton hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the eighth to make it 4-3 and that would be the final score.  The Mets won two out of three in the series and will have an off day on Thursday.  They will take on the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night in Cincinnati.

The New York Yankees even their series with the Boston Red Sox



The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-1.  Hiroki Kuroda started and pitched very well.  Brian McCann led the Yankees offense with four hits. 

Kuroda pitched seven innings giving up one run on four hits.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out eight and won his 10th game of the season.  Dellin Betances gave up a hit and struck out two in one inning and David Robertson gave up a hit and struck out two in his one inning of work. 

Anthony Ranaudo lost his first game of the season pitching 5 1/3 innings and giving up six hits and three runs.  He walked two and struck out one.  Craig Breslow pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and striking out two, Alex Wilson pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and Edward Mujica pitched a perfect inning. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and an RBI, Derek Jeter had a hit and drew a walk and Brett Gardner had two hits and an RBI.  Carlos Beltran drew a walk, Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk and McCann  had four hits and three RBI.  Chase Headley had a hit, Stephen Drew drew a walk and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Ellsbury hit a triple and McCann hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Gardner was caught stealing and Kuroda had a pickoff. 

Brock Holt had a hit and an RBI, Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and Daniel Nava had two hits.  Vasquez had a hit, Jemile Weeks had a hit and Holt hit a double.  The Red Sox were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Weeks had a stolen base and Nava was picked off.  Nava had an outfield assist. 

In the second McCann hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  Ellsbury hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to make it 3-0.  In the sixth Holt hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the seventh Gardner hit an RBI single and McCann hit an RBI single to make it 5-1 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play the rubber game of their three game series on Thursday night.

The New York Mets even series with the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 8-6.  Jon Niese started and didn't pitch that well, the bullpen was good.  Juan Lagares had four hits, David Wright and Travis d'Arnaud each had three to lead the offense. 

Niese pitched six innings giving up ten hits and six runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out four and won his eighth game of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up a hit, Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jennry Mejia pitched an inning with two strikeouts and saved his 22nd game of the season. 

Brad Penny lost his first game of the season pitching three innings and giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Anthony DeSclafani pitched an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a strikeout, Carter Capps pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run and struck out two and Dan Jennings pitched two innings and gave up two hits with a walk and two strikeouts.  Sam Dyson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk and struck out one.   

Lagares had four hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Wright had three hits and three RBI and Lucas Duda had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  d'Arnaud had three hits and drew a walk, Matt den Dekker had two hits and an RBI, Wilmer Flores had two hits and Niese had a hit.  Lagares and Wright each hit a double and the Mets were 6-18 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Lagares had two stolen bases and den Dekker had one.  Wright commited an error. 

Christian Yelich had three hits and an RBI, Donovan Solano had two hits and Giancarlo Stanton had two hits and two RBI.  Casey McGehee had a hit, Jeff Baker had a hit and Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a hit.  Adeiny Hechavarria had a hit, Reed Johnson had an RBI and Garrett Jones had an RBI.  Yelich and Stanton each hit a double, Hechavarria hit a triple and Stanton hit a homerun.  The Marlins were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the first Wright hit an RBI single, den Dekker hit an RBI single and it was 2-0 Mets.  In the second Lagares hit an RBI double and a wild pitch scored another run to make it 4-0 Mets.  In the third Solano hit an RBI single and Stanton hit a two run homerun to make it a 4-3 game.  In the fourth Lagares hit an RBI single, Wright hit an RBI double and Duda hit an RBI single to make it a 7-3 game.  Johnson hit a sacrifice fly and Yelich hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 7-5 game.  In the sixth Wright hit a sacrifice fly to make it 8-5 and the Marlins scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-6 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play the rubber game of three on Wednesday night. 

The New York Yankees put up a stinker in loss to the Boston Red Sox



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-4.  Shane Greene started and was bad, the bullpen was ok and the offense hit a couple of homeruns. 

Greene pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up six hits and six runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Greene lost his second game of the season.  Esmil Rogers pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Rich Hill pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit with two strikeouts and Adam Warren pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts.  David Huff pitched an inning with a strikeout and Chaz Roe pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out two. 

Joe Kelly won his third game of the season pitching 6 2/3 innings and giving up five hits and three runs.  He walked four and struck out six.  Tommy Layne pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out one and Koji Uehara pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts. 

Derek Jeter had a hit and an RBI, Mark Teixeira drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk.  Brian McCann had two hits and an RBI, Martin Prado had two hits and an RBI and Chase Headley had a hit and drew two walks.  Francisco Cervelli had an RBI and drew a walk, Prado and McCann each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Cervelli had a passed ball. 

Mookie Betts had three hits and an RBI, David Ortiz drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had three hits and an RBI.  Mike Napoli had two RBI and drew two walks, Daniel Nava had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Xander Bogaerts had four hits and two RBI.  David Ross drew two walks, Cespedes and Bogaerts each hit a double, Cespedes hit a triple and Nava, Bogaerts and Betts each hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Middlebrooks committed an error and Cespedes had an outfield assist. 

The Red Sox jumped right out to the lead in the first inning.  Cespedes had an RBI double and Napoli hit a sacrifice fly.  In the third Nava hit a three run homerun to make it 5-0 and Bogaerts hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 6-0.  In the third Prado hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-1.  Betts hit a solo homerun in the fourth to push the lead to 7-1.  In the fifth Cervelli had an RBI walk and Jeter had an RBI single.  Gardner with the bases loaded and two outs struck out and then was thrown out after arguing balls and strikes.  That was a huge moment in the game as it should of been a ball and a 3-2 count but it wasn't.  Napoli hit a sacrifice fly and Bogaerts hit an RBI single in the ninth and it was 9-3.  The Yankees added a run on a McCann solo homerun in the ninth to make it 9-4 and that was the final score.  The Yankees have now lost three games in a row.  The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

The New York Mets are handled by the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-2.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and didn't pitch very well.  Matt den Dekker had two hits to lead the offense who only managed five hits. 

Colon pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and six runs.  He didn't walk a batter and he struck out two and lost his 11th game of the season.  Buddy Carlyle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Dana Eveland pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Jerome Williams won his fifth game of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings and giving up four hits and two runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Justin De Fratus pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Antonio Bastardo pitched to one batter and struck him out and Ken Giles pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Juan Lagares had an RBI and drew a walk, David Wright drew two walks and Lucas Duda had a hit.  den Dekker had two hits, Delson Herrera had a hit and drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI, the Mets were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Ben Revere had a hit, Jimmy Rollins had two hits and drew a walk and Chase Utley had a hit.  Ryan Howard had a hit and three RBI, Marlon Byrd had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Dominick Brown had a hit and an RBI.  Carlos Ruiz had two hits and an RBI, Cody Asche had three hits and an RBI and Grady Sizemore drew a walk.  Asche, Rollins and Ruiz each hit a double and Byrd hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 5-15 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Rollins had a stolen base. 

In the fifth Byrd hit a solo homerun to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Howard hit a two run single, Brown hit an RBI single, Ruiz hit an RBI single and Asche hit an RBI single to give the Phillies a 6-0 lead.  In the seventh Flores hit an RBI single and Lagares drew an RBI walk to cut the lead to 6-2.  The Phillies added a run in the ninth on a Howard sacrifice fly to make it 7-2 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play the rubber game of the three game series on Sunday afternoon. 

The New York Yankees lose in Toronto as they are one hit



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 2-0.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and pitched well but the Yankees offense couldn't do anything. 

Pineda pitched six+ innings giving up two runs on seven hits.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out three and picked up his third loss of the season.  Shawn Kelley pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and David Huff walked one in one inning. 

Drew Hutchison pitched seven shutout innings giving up one hit.  He walked two and struck out nine and also hit two batters.  Aaron Sanchez pitched two perfect innings for his first major league save.  He struck out three batters. 

Mark Teixeira got the Yankees only hit.  Carlos Beltran and Stephen Drew each drew a walk and Teixeira hit a double.  The Yankees were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Jose Reyes had a hit, Melky Cabrera had a hit and Jose Bautista had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Adam Lind had a hit, Edward Encarnacion had a hit and Dioner Navarro had a hit.  Danny Valencia had a hit, Lind and Navarro each hit a double and Bautista hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Reyes had a stolen base. 

In the first inning Bautista hit a two run homerun and that was all the scoring in the game.  The Yankees best chance was in the fourth inning when they left the bases loaded.  The two teams have split the first two games of the series and will play the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.
