New York Mets lose in extras to the Arizona Diamondbacks

 

The New York Mets were defeated by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona and the final score was 6-5 in 11 innings.  Marcus Stroman started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Dom Smith led the offense with three RBI. 

Stroman pitched six innings giving up seven hits and three runs with six strikeouts.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one, Aaron Loup pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Edwin Diaz pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout.  He blew his first save of the season.  Trevor May lost his second game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up a hit and two runs with one being earned.  He walked one and struck out none. 

Caleb Smith started for the Diamonbacks and he pitched five innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Joe Mantiply pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with two walks, Taylor Clarke pitched to one batter and got him out and Joakim Soria pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Stefan Crichton pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Alex Young won his second game of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run. 

Jonathan Villar had a hit and drew a walk, Francisco Lindor had a hit and an RBI and Pete Alonso had a hit and drew a walk.  Smith had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Billy McKinney had a hit and Mason Williams drew a walk.  James McCann had a hit and an RBI, McKinney and McCann hit a double and Lindor hit a triple.  Smith hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Smith had a stolen base and Villar was caught stealing.  Villar and McKinney each committed an error. 

Josh Rojas had a hit and an RBI, Ketel Marte had three hits and drew a walk and Eduardo Escobar had two hits.  Pavin Smith had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Josh Reddick had two hits and two RBI and Stephen Vogt had a hit.  Nick Ahmed had a hit, Marte and Reddick each hit a double and Smith hit a homerun.  The Diamondbacks were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Smith had a pickoff. 

In the fourth Smith hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the sixth Lindor hit an RBI triple to push the lead to 3-0 and Smith hit a sac fly making it 4-0.  In the bottom of the sixth Smith hit a three-run homerun to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the bottom of the ninth Rojas hit an RBI single and the game was tied at four.  In the tenth McCann hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 5-4 lead and in the bottom of the tenth Reddick hit a two-run double to give the Diamondbacks a 6-5 victory.

New York Yankees hold on to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen did their job and Gio Urshela and Gleyber Torres each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Montgomery pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with only one being earned.  He walked two and struck out six.  Montgomery won his third game of the season.  Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Chad Green pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman earned his 12th save of the season pitching an inning with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Shane McClanahan started for the Rays and he pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  McClanahan lost his first game of the season.  Ryan Thompson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Colin McHugh pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with five strikeouts and Jeffrey Springs pitched two innings giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts. 

DJ LeMahieu drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and drew a walk and Urshela had two hits and two RBI.  Torres had two hits and drew a walk, Roughned Odor had a hit, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Miguel Andujar had a hit.  Clint Frazier had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks, Sanchez, Torres and Urshela each hit a double.  Urshela hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Torres was picked off and Odor and Montgomery each committed an error.  Montgomery had a pick off. 

Randy Arozarena drew a walk, Yandy Diaz had an RBI, Ji-Man Choi had a hit and an RBI.  Austin Meadows had a hit, Mike Brosseau had two hits and Manuel Margot had an RBI and drew a walk.  Francisco Mejia had a hit, Taylor Walls had a hit and drew two walks and Mike Zunino drew a walk.  Brosseau hti a double and the Rays were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Wendle and Walls each had a stolen base.  Arozarena was caught stealing.  Springs had a pickoff. 

In the first Urshela hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Margot reached on a fielder’s choice and a run scored to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the bottom of the fourth Frazier hit a two-run single to push the lead to 4-1.  In the fifth Diaz hit a sac fly cutting the lead to 4-2.  In the seventh Choi hit an RBI single making it a 4-3 game and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Thursday afternoon.   

New York Yankees walk it off in extras to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-3.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen was great and the Yankees offense only managed six hits. 

German pitched five innings giving up three hits and three runs with five strikeouts.  Wandy Peralta pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two walks, Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two walks and he struck out one and Chad Green pitched an inning giving up two walks and he struck out two.  Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning with two strikeouts. 

Tyler Glasnow pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.  J.P. Feyereisen pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Pete Fairbanks pitched an inning giving up two walks and Andrew Kittredge pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and two runs with one being earned.  He walked two and struck out two and took his first loss of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Roughned Odor had a hit and Aaron Judge had an RBI and drew three walks.  Gio Urshela had a hit, Gleyber Torres drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit.  Miguel Andujar had a hit and an RBI and Brett Gardner drew a walk.  Clint Frazier had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks.  Sanchez hit a double and Andujar and Frazier each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and LeMahieu committed an error. 

Brandon Lowe had a hit, Ji-Man Choi drew a walk and Austin Meadows had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks.  Yandy Diaz drew two walks, Kevin Kiermaier had a hit and an RBI and Brett Phillips drew a walk.  Meadows and Kiermaier each hit a homerun and the Rays were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Meadows had a stolen base. 

In the first Meadows hit a two-run homerun to give the Rays a 2-0 lead.  In the third Judge drew an RBI walk and a wild pitch tied the score at two.  IN the fourth Andujar hit a solo homerun and the Yankees grabbed a 3-2 lead.  In the fifth Kiermaier hit a solo homerun to tie the score at three.  In the 11th Frazier hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees the 5-3 walk-off victory. 

New York Yankees offense sputters as they fall to the Tampa Bay Rays

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-1.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  The bullpen pitched well and Miguel Andujar led the offense with two hits. 

Taillon pitched five innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  He took his fourth loss of the season.  Lucas Luetge pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts, Wandy Peralta pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Luis Cessa pitched a perfect inning. 

Rich Hill started for the Rays and he pitched five innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out two and earned his fourth win of the season.  Michael Wacha pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run, Pete Fairbanks pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Ryan Thompson pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  J.P. Feyereisen pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Aaron Judge had a hit, Roughned Odor had a hit and drew a walk and Andujar had two hits and an RBI.  Kyle Higashioka had a hit, Gary Sanchez drew a walk and Brett Gardner drew a walk.  Odor hit a double and Andujar hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Torres committed an error.

In the third Margot hit an RBI double to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Meadows hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth Arozarena hit an RBI single to make it a 3-0 lead.  In the seventh Andujar hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 3-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of four on Tuesday night.
