The New York Yankees win their third straight game



The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 5-1.  Michael Pineda started and pitched very well, the bullpen was also good.  Alex Rodriguez had two hits and two RBI. 

Pineda pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up one run on seven hits.  He didn't walk a batter and he struck out six and won his ninth game of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched 1/3 of an inning striking out one, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Andrew Miller pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Clay Buchholz pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with one of them being earned.  He didn't walk a batter and three strikeouts and lost his seventh game of the season.  Robbie Ross Jr. pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with a walk and four strikeouts.  Matt Barnes didn't record an out and gave up a run and a walk, Craig Breslow pitched an inning giving up a hit and Justin Masterson pitched a perfect inning. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and an RBI, Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI and Alex Rodriguez had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, Brian McCann had a hit and Chris Young drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Stephen Drew had a hit and Gregorius hit a double.  Rodriguez hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Pineda and Figueroa each committed an error. 

Mookie Betts had a hit and an RBI, Brock Holt had a hit and Xander Bogaerts had a hit.  Pablo Sandoval had a hit, Mike Napoli had a hit and Alejandro De Aza had a hit.  Sandy Leon had a hit, Betts hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Napoli and Holt each committed an error. 

In the first Rodriguez hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Ellsbury reached on an error and a run scored to make it 2-0 Yankees.  Gardner had an RBI single and Rodriguez had an RBI walk and the lead was up to 4-0.  In the fifth Betts hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-1 and in the eighth Ellsbury hit an RBI single to make it 5-1 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.

The New York Yankees take series from the Oakland A's behind a dominant Masahiro Tanaka



The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-2 Yankees.  Masahiro Tanaka started and after having a tough second inning didn't allow a hit the rest of the game.  Cole Figueroa who just got called up from AAA had two doubles, Jacoby Ellsbury had a couple of RBI and Brett Gardner had three hits and got announced to the All Star Team as an injury replacement. 

Tanaka pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up two runs with only one of them earned on two hits.  He walked one and struck out six and he earned his fifth win of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit and Adam Warren struck out the only batter that he faced. 

Jesse Chavez pitched five innings giving up seven hits and four runs.  He walked three and struck out three and lost his ninth game of the season.  Fernando Abad pitched an inning striking out one batter, Eric O'Flaherty pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Fernando Rodriguez pitched an inning giving up a hit and two unearned runs with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Ellsbury had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Gardner had three hits and an RBI and Mark Teixeira had a hit and an RBI.  Brian McCann drew a walk, Didi Gregorius drew a walk and Chris Young drew a walk.  Stephen Drew had a hit and drew a walk, Figueroa had two hits and two doubles and Gardner hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  McCann committed an error. 

Josh Reddick had a hit, Billy Butler had a hit and an RBI and Ike Davis drew a walk.  Mark Canha had a hit and an RBI, Butler and Canha each hit a double and the A's were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Semien committed an error which was his MLB leading 28th of the season. 

In the first Gardner hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.   In the second Butler hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  Canha followed it up with an RBI double of his own and it was 2-1 Oakland.  In the third the Yankees tied the game at two on a Teixeira RBI single.  Ellsbury hit a two run single in the fourth giving the Yankees a 4-2 lead.  In the eighth Ellsbury reached on a throwing error and two runs scored to make it 6-2 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees took two out of three in the series and four out of six on the homestand.  The Yankees will play their last three games before the All Star Break in Boston beginning on Friday night.

The New York Mets take last game of road trip and take series from the San Francisco Giants



The New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at AT+T Park in San Francisco, California.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and pitched great and Eric Campbell had two hits and two RBI to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched eight innings giving up two hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out ten and won his ninth game of the season.  Bobby Parnell pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and Jeurys Familia saved his 24th game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

Jake Peavy lost his fourth game of the season pitching seven innings giving up six hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out five.  Josh Osich pitched a perfect inning and Jean Machi pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs. 

Ruben Tejada had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Wilmer Flores had a hit.  Lucas Duda drew a walk, Kevin Plawecki had a hit and Campbell had two hits and two RBI.  deGrom had a hit, Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI and Campbell hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Murphy committed an error and Campbell also had an outfield assist. 

Gregor Blanco drew a walk, Joe Panik had a hit and Hunter Pence had two hits and an RBI.  Brandon Belt had two hits, Pence hit a double and the Giants were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Crawford committed an error. 

In the sixth Murphy hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Lagares hit an RBI force out to make it 2-0.  In the ninth Campbell hit a two run homerun to increase the lead to 4-0.  Pence hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to make it 4-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets will have the day off on Thursday and begin a three game series at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night.   

The New York Yankees even their series with the Oakland Athletics



The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  CC Sabathia started and pitched pretty well, the bullpen was good although Andrew Miller was rusty.  Mark Teixeira had two homeruns to lead the offense and he added great defense. 

Sabathia pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout.  He won his fourth game of the season.  Bryan Mitchell pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one, Justin Wilson pitched a perfect inning and Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.  Andrew Miller saved his 18th game of the season pitching an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout. 

Scott Kazmir pitched three innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with a walk and four strikeouts.  Kazmir left the game with an injury, Evan Scribner pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and three strikeouts and he lost his second game of the season, Eric O'Flaherty pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he walked one and Edward Mujica pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk.  Fernando Abad pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew two walks and Teixeira had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Chris Young drew a walk, John Ryan Murphy had two hits and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Jose Pirela had a hit and an RBI, Stephen Drew had a pinch hit and an RBI and Gregorius hit a double.  Teixeira hit two homeruns and Drew hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Young hada stolen base, Gregorio Petit committed an error. 

Billy Burns had two hits, Ben Zobrist drew a walk and Billy Butler had a hit.  Brett Lawrie had a hit, Jake Smolinski had a hit and drew a walk and Josh Phegley had a hit and an RBI.  Mark Canha had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Marcus Semien had a hit and two RBI and Butler hit a double.  Semien hit a homerun and the Athletics were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Lawrie committed an error and Smolinski had an outfield assist. 

In the second Phegley hit an RBI single to give the A's a 1-0 lead.  Canha hit an RBI single to make it 2-0.  In the bottom of the second Gregorius hit an RBI double to cut the lead in half to 2-1.  In the bottom of the fourth Teixeira hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  Pirela hit a sac fly and made it 3-2 Yankees.  In the bottom of the sixth Teixeira hit his second solo homerun of the game and pushed the lead to 4-2.  Drew hit a solo homerun in the eighth inning to make it 5-2.  In the ninth Semien hit a two run homerun and cut the lead to 5-4 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Wednesday afternoon.

The New York Mets blank the Los Angeles Dodgers to take the series



The New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday.  The game took place at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles, California and the final score was 8-0 Mets.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and pitched great.  Daniel Murphy had three hits and Wilmer Flores had four hits to lead the offense. 

Matz pitched six shutout innings giving up two hits and he walked two batters and struck out eight.  Matz won his second game of the season.  Logan Verrett pitched three innings giving up a hit and he struck out three. 

Mike Bolsinger pitched five innings giving up nine hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  He lost his third game of the season.  J.P. Howell pitched an inning and struck out two batters, Juan Nicasio pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and three strikeouts and Daniel Coulombe pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk. 

Granderson had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Murphy had three hits and drew a walk and Flores had four hits and three RBI.  Johnny Monell had a hit and drew two walks, Ruben Tejada had three hits and an RBI and Matz had an RBI.  Juan Lagares had two hits and two RBI, Granderson hit a double and Flores hit two doubles.  Lagares hit a triple and the Mets were 8-22 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base. 

Enrique Hernandez had a hit, Justin Turner had a hit and Scott Van Slyke drew two walks.  A.J. Ellis had a hit and the Dodgers were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Van Slyke had a stolen base and Hernandez committed an error. 

In the first Flores hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Matz hit an RBI groundout to extend the lead to 2-0.  Granderson hit an RBI double and Flores hit an RBI single to make it 4-0.  In the seventh Tejada hit an RBI single to increase the Mets lead to 5-0.  Lagares hit a two run triple and it was 7-0.  In the eighth Flores hit an RBI double to make it 8-0 and that was the final score.  The Mets won two out of three in the series and will begin a three game series in San Francisco on Monday night.   

The New York Yankees fail to sweep the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-1 Rays.  The game was closer but got away late.  Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and struggled, the Yankees offense only managed three hits and they committed three errors on defense. 

Nova pitched five innings giving up six hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out one and lost his second game of the season.  Bryan Mitchell pitched two innings giving up three hits and four runs with two of them being earned and he struck out one.  Chris Capuano pitched an inning walking two batters, Nick Rumbelow pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Erasmo Ramirez pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and three strikeouts and he won his seventh game of the season.  Xavier Cedeno pitched an inning walking one and striking out one and Everett Teaford pitched two innings walking one and striking out two. 

Brett Gardner drew two walks, Chase Headley had a hit, Alex Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Brian McCann drew a walk and Garrett Jones had a hit.  Headley and Jones each hit a double and Rodriguez hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Nova committed an error and Pirela committed two errors. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and an RBI, David DeJesus had a hit and drew a walk and Evan Longoria had two hits and drew a walk.  James Loney had a hit and two RBI, Logan Forsythe had a hit and two RBI adn Kevin Kiermaier had two hits.  Jake Elmore drew two walks, Curt Casali had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Longoria and Casali each hit a double and Kiermaier hit a triple.  The Rays were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Ramirez committed an error. 

In the first Loney hit a two run single to give the Rays a 2-0 lead.  In the second Casali hit a sac fly to make it 3-0 Rays.  In the fifth Cabrera hit a sac bunt and an error scored a run to make it 4-0 Rays.  In the sixth the Yankees got on the board on a solo homerun by Rodriguez.  In the eighth Forsythe hit a two run single to make it 6-1 and then Casali had an RBI walk making it 7-1 and Cabrera hit a sac fly to complete the scoring at 8-1.  The Yankees will have the day off on Monday and then begin a three game series at home with the Oakland Athletics.

The New York Mets lose a one run game to the Los Angeles Dodgers



The New York Mets were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night.  The game took place at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles, California and the final score was 4-3.  Matt Harvey started and didn't have a great outing, the bullpen was pretty good.  Wilmer Flores had three hits to lead the offense. 

Harvey pitched five innings giving up seven hits and three runs with five walks and four strikeouts.  He lost his sixth game of the season.  Alex Torres pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk, Carlos Torres pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out a batter and Sean Gilmartin pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Zach Greinke won his seventh game of the season pitching seven innings giving up four hits and no runs.  He walked none and struck out four.  Yimi Garcia pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Adam Liberatore pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and Pedro Baez pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run.  J.P. Howell picked up his first save of the season striking out the only batter that he faced. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Lucas Duda had a hit and an RBI.  Flores had three hits and an RBI, Kevin Plawecki had two hits and Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI.  Plawecki and Duda each hit a double and the Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Cecilliani had a stolen base and Lagares was caught stealing. 

Joc Pederson drew a walk, Howie Kendrick had two hits and Adrian Gonzalez had a hit and an RBI.  Yasmani Grandal had two hits and drew a walk, Yasiel Puig had a hit and drew a walk and Andre Ethier had a hit and drew two walks.  Alberto Callaspo had two hits and two RBI.  Jimmy Rollins had an RBI and drew a walk, Greinke had a hit and Puig and Grandal each hit a double.  Gonzalez had a homerun and the Dodgers were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Kendrick had a stolen base. 

In the second Rollins hit an RBI groundout to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Gonzalez hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 2-0.  Callaspo hit an RBI single and it was 3-0 Dodgers.  In the seventh Callaspo hit an RBI single to push the lead to 4-0.  In the eighth Duda hit an RBI double, Flores hit an RBI single and in the ninth Lagares hit a sac fly to make it 4-3 but that would be the final score. 

The New York Mets squeak by the Los Angeles Dodgers



The New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.  The game took place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California and the final score was 2-1.  Noah Syndergaard pitched six innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and six strikeouts.  Hansel Robles pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout to earn his 22nd save of the season. 

Clayton Kershaw pitched seve innings giving up five hits and a run with two walks and seven strikeouts.   Pedro Baez pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Kenley Jansen lost his first game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and a run with no walks and two strikeouts. 

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, John Mayberry Jr. had a hit and drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit.  Wilmer Flores had three hits and an RBI, Kevin Plawecki had an RBI and Ruben Tejada had two hits.  Mayberry Jr. and Duda each hit a double and the Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Justin Turner had a hit and drew a walk, Adrian Gonzalez had a hit adn an RBI and Andre Ethier had a hit.  Yasmani Grandal drew a walk, Turner hti a double and Gonzalez hit a homerun.  The Dodgers were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Kendrick had a stolen base. 

In the second Gonzalez hit a solo homerun giving the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Flores hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the ninth Plawecki hti a sac fly to win the game 2-1. 

The Yankees win another walk-off thriller over the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Michael Pineda made the start and was dominating.  The Yankees offense had six hits but no player had more than one hit. 

Pineda pitched seven innings giving up five hits and no runs with a walk and ten strikeouts.  Justin Wilson struck out the only two batters that he faced and Dellin Betances blew his second save of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings.  He gave up two hits and two runs with two strikeouts and he picked up his fifth win of the season. 

Nathan Karns pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and ten strikeouts.  Brandon Gomes pitched a perfect inning and Brad Boxberger lost his fourth game of the season giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and he didn't record an out. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI.  Mark Teixeira had a hit and an RBI, Garrett Jones had a hit and Chris Young drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had a hit and Stephen Drew had a walk.  Jones and Teixeira each hit a double and the Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Gregorius had a stolen base and Drew was caught stealing. 

Evan Longoria had a hit, James Loney had two hits and Steven Souza Jr. had two hits and two RBI.  Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, Kevin Kiermaier drew a walk and Curt Casali had a hit.  Cabrera and Casali each hit a double, Souza Jr. hit a homerun and the Rays were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Boxberger committed an error. 

In the first Rodriguez hit an RBI single and Teixeira hit a sac fly to make it 2-0 Yankees.  In the ninth Souza Jr.  hit a two run homerun to tie the game at two.  In the bottom of the ninth Flores hit a sac bunt and the pitcher Boxberger had a throwing error and the winning run scored.  The Yankees won the game 3-2 and for the second straight game won on a walk-off.  It was their third straight victory overall.  The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.
