New York Mets win third straight over the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-1.  David Peterson started for the Mets and he pitched great.  The bullpen was good and Brandon Nimmo, Dom Smith and James McCann each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Peterson pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with ten strikeouts.  Peterson won his first game of the season.  Jeurys Familia pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked one, Aaron Loup pitched 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts and Edwin Diaz pitched an inning with two strikeouts. 

Zack Wheeler started for the Phillies and he pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up ten hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Wheeler lost his second game of the season.  Sam Coonrod pitched 2/3 of an inning, JoJo Romero pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Vince Velasquez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one. 

Nimmo had three hits, Francisco Lindor had two hits and drew a walk and Smith had three hits and an RBI.  Pete Alonso had an RBI, Jeff McNeil had a hit and Michael Conforto drew a walk.  McCann had three hits and two RBI, McCann hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

Rhys Hoskins had a hit, J.T. Realmuto had a hit and drew a walk and Jean Segura had two hits and an RBI.  Realmuto hit a double and Segura hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

In the bottom of the first Smith hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Alonso grounded into a double play and a run scored making it 2-0.  In the fifth Segura hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 2-1.  In the bottom of the seventh Alonso hit a sac fly pushing the Mets lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the eighth McCann hit a two-run homerun extending the lead to 5-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Thursday afternoon. 

New York Yankees lose on a walk-off to the Toronto Blue Jays

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Florida and the final score was 5-4.  Corey Kluber started for the Yankees and he was just ok.  The bullpen was good but not great and the offense was led by Aaron Judge who hit two homeruns. 

Kluber pitched four innings and gave up six hits and three runs.  He walked two and struck out four.  Jonathan Loaisiga pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run, Darren O’Day pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Justin Wilson pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.  Chad Green took his second loss of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a run. 

T.J. Zeuch started for the Blue Jays and he pitched four innings giving up four hits and four runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Trent Thornton pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk, Anthony Castro pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one and Rafael Dolis pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he picked up his first win of the season.

Judge had three hits and two RBI, Brett Gardner drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit.  Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew two walks, Gio Urshela had a hit and two RBI and Torres hit a double.  Judge hit two homeruns and the Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Judge had an outfield assist. 

Marcus Semien had a hit, Bo Bichette had three hits and two RBI and Vlad Guerrero Jr. had two hits.  Randal Grichuk drew a walk, Cavan Biggio had a hit and drew a walk and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had a hit.  Rowdy Tellez had two hits, Alejandro Kirk had a hit and two RBI and Josh Palacios had a hit.  Biggio hit a triple, Kirk and Bichette each hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 0-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Bichette had a stolen base. 

In the first Judge hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Kirk hit a two-run homerun to give the Jays a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the third Bichette hit a solo homerun to push the Jays lead to 3-1.  In the fourth Judge hit a solo homerun and Urshela hit a two-run single to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth a wild pitch tied the game at four.  In the bottom of the ninth Bichette hit a walk-off solo homerun giving the Jays a 5-4 victory. 

The Yankees lost two out of three in the series and 4 out of six on the road trip.  They will now be off on Thursday and try and regroup before beginning a three-game set with the Tampa Bay Rays at home on Friday night.

New York Mets shutout the Philadelphia Phillies to get a doubleheader sweep

 

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in Game two of their doubleheader on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-0.  Marcus Stroman started for the Mets and he pitched great.  Brandon Nimmo had three hits and three RBI to lead the offense. 

Stroman pitched six innings giving up four hits and no runs.  He walked none and struck out three and earned his second win of the season.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits. 

Aaron Nola started for the Phillies and pitched five innings giving up seven hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out seven.  Nola took his first loss of the season, Spencer Howard pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run.  He walked one and struck out one. 

Nimmo had three hits and three RBI, Francisco Lindor had a hit and drew a walk and Pete Alonso had a hit.  Jeff McNeil had a hit, Kevin Pillar had a hit and Jonathan Villar had a hit and an RBI.  Tomas Nido had a hit, Stroman drew a walk and Lindor, Villar and Alonso each hit a double.  Nido hit a triple, the Mets were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Matt Joyce had a hit, J.T. Realmuto had a hit and Alec Bohm had a hit.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Jean Segura had a hit and Brad Miller had a hit.  The Phillies were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the fourth Villar hit an RBI double and Nimmo hit a two-run single to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.  In the sixth Nimmo hit an RBI single to make it 4-0 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night. 

New York Mets walk-off the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-3 in eight innings.  The doubleheaders are still seven inning games this year and this one went extras.  Taijuan Walker started for the Mets and pitched well.  Dom Smith hit a two-run homerun, no Mets had more then a hit in the game. 

Walker pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and eight strikeouts.  Miguel Castro pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts, Edwin Diaz pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Trevor May pitched an inning giving up a hit and a unearned run with a walk and two strikeouts.  May earned his first win of the season. 

Chase Anderson started for the Phillies and he pitched four innings giving up three hits and two runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  JoJo Romero pitched an inning with a walk, Jose Alvarado pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Connor Brogdon pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts.  Hector Neris pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with one being earned.  He walked one and took his first loss and first blown save. 

Brandon Nimmo drew two walks, Francisco Lindor drew a walk and Smith had a hit and two RBI.  Pete Alonso had a hit and an RBI, Jeff McNeil had a hit and Michael Conforto drew a walk.  James McCann had a hit, Luis Guillorme had a hit and drew two walks and Jonathan Villar had a hit and an RBI.  Smith hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  McCann had a passed ball. 

Rhys Hoskins drew a walk, Bryce Harper had a hit and drew a walk and Alec Bohm had a hit and drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had two hits and an RBI, Jean Segura had two hits and an RBI and Andrew Knapp had an RBI.  Roman Quinn drew a walk, Brad Miller drew a walk and Bohm hit a double.  The Phillies were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Gregorius had a stolen base and Quinn was caught stealing. 

In the bottom of the first Smith hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the second Knapp hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the sixth Segura hit an RBI single and in the eighth Gregorius hit an RBI single to give the Phillies a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth Alonso hit an RBI single to tie the score at three and Villar hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Mets a 4-3 win. 

New York Yankees late rally falls short in loss to the Jays

 

The New York Yankees lost to the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Florida and the final score was 7-3.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  The Yankees offense was led by Aaron Hicks who had three hits and DJ LeMahieu added two hits. 

Taillon pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and five runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season.  Lucas Luetge pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts, Luis Cessa pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Albert Abreu pitched an inning giving up a run and two walks with a strikeout. 

Hyun Jin Ryu started for the Blue Jays and he pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four hits and an unearned run.  He walked one and struck out seven and earned his first win of the season.  David Phelps pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Jordan Romano pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Julian Merryweather pitched to one batter and got him out.  Tim Mayza pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

LeMahieu had two hits and drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and two RBI and Gary Sanchez drew a walk.  Hicks had three hits, Roughned Odor had an RBI and Clint Frazier had a hit.  Jay Bruce had a hit which was a double, Hicks and LeMahieu each hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Urshela committed an error.

In the second Palacios hit a two-run single giving the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead.  In the third Grichuk hit a sac fly pushing the lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Semien hit a solo homerun extending the Blue Jays lead to 4-0.  Guerrero Jr. hit an RBI double and it was 5-0.  In the bottom of the fifth Tellez hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 6-0.  In the seventh Odor hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 6-1.  In the eighth Stanton hit a two-run single making it a 6-3 game.  The Yankees had two men on and two outs with Hicks up and ran themselves out of an inning.  In the bottom of the eighth Bichette hit a sac fly making it 7-3 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game on Wednesday afternoon.  The Yankees will then have an off day on Thursday before returning home on Friday to begin a three game set with the Tampa Bay Rays.

New York Yankees rally to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays in extra innings

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 8-4 in ten innings.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he wasn’t great but he grinded it out into the sixth inning and gave them a chance.  The bullpen pitched great and the offense was led by Gio Urshela who had four hits. 

Montgomery pitched five+ innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Chad Green pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up no hits or runs and striking out three, Darren O’Day pitched 2/3 of an inning and struck out a batter and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out the side.  Chapman picked up his first win of the season.  Albert Abreu pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Brent Honeywell Jr. pitched two perfect innings with a couple of strikeouts.  Michael Wacha pitched four innings giving up three hits and three runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  Cody Reed pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk, Ryan Thompson pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and Diego Castillo pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk.  Colin McHugh lost his first game of the season pitching an inning and giving up three hits and four runs with three being earned.  He struck out one. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Aaron Judge drew two walks and Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk.  Gleyber Torres had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Roughned Odor had a hit and an RBI and Gary Sanchez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Urshela had four hits and three RBI and Brett Gardner had a hit and drew two walks.  LeMahieu and Urshela each hit a double and Urshela hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-15 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Torres had a stolen base.

Yandy Diaz had a hit and drew a walk, Randy Arozarena had a hit and two RBI and Manuel Margot had a hit.  Mike Brosseau had a hit and drew a walk, Mike Zunino had two hits and two RBI and Margot and Zunino each hit a double.  Zunino and Arozarena each hit a homerun and the Rays were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Padlo and Margot each committed an error. 

In the second Zunino hit a two-run homerun to give the Rays a 2-0 lead.  In the third Urshela hit a two-run homerun tying the game at two.  Hicks grounded into a double play and the Yankees had a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the third Arozarena hit a two-run homerun giving the Rays back the lead at 4-3.  In the eighth Torres hit an RBI single to tie the game at four.  In the tenth Odor hit an RBI single, Sanchez hit an RBI single and Urshela hit an RBI single and a two base error scored a couple more runs and gave the Yankees an 8-4 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees avoided the sweep and will head to Dunedin Florida to take on the Jays for three beginning on Monday night.   

New York Mets are shutout by the Miami Marlins as Jacob deGrom suffers more hard luck

 

The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Saturday.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-0.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched great.  The bullpen didn’t pitch very well and the offense didn’t do much at all. 

deGrom pitched eight innings giving up five hits and a run with no walks and 14 strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season.  Edwin Diaz pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and Jeurys Familia pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Trevor Rogers started for the Marlins and he pitched six innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out ten.  Rogers picked up his first win of the season.  Dylan Floro pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Richard Bleier pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Yimi Garcia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brandon Nimmo had a hit and drew a walk, Dom Smith had a hit and Jeff McNeil drew a walk.  deGrom had a hit, Nimmo hit a double and the Mets were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Lindor was caught stealing and McCann had a pickoff. 

Starling Marte had two hits, Jesus Aguilar had a hit and an RBI and Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Miguel Rojas had two hits and an RBI, Chad Wallach had a hit and Adam Duvall had a hit.  Wallach, Duvall and Marte each hit a double.  Chisholm Jr. hit a homerun and the Marlins were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Marte had a stolen base and Wallach was picked off.  Wallach committed an error. 

In the second Chisholm Jr. hit a solo homerun to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  In the ninth Aguilar hit an RBI single and Rojas hit an RBI single giving the Marlins some breathing room with a 3-0 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play on Sunday afternoon.

New York Yankees shutout by the Tampa Bay Rays

 The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took

place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 4-0.  Domingo German 

started for the Yankees and he didn't pitch very well.  The Yankees offense was non existant.  

German pitched four innings giving up eight hits and four runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  He took

his second loss of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts, Jonathan 

Loaisiga pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts and Luis Cessa pitched

a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  

Chris Archer pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out four for the Rays.  He left the 

game with an injury.  Andrew Kittredge pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with a 

strikeout.  He won his second game of the season, Jeffrey Springs pitched two innings giving up a hit

and he struck out three, Ryan Thompson pitched a perfect inning and Cody Reed pitched an inning 

giving up a walk and he struck out one.  Chris Mazza pitched a perfect inning.  

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew a

walk.  Brett Gardner had a hit, Gary Sanchez had a hit and LeMahieu and Gardner each hit a double.

The Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Sanchez and Urshela

each committed an error.   

Yoshi Tsutsugo had a hit, Austin Meadows had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Randy Arozarena had

three hits and an RBI.  Yandy Diaz drew a walk, Joey Wendle had two hits and Willy Adames had 

a hit and drew a walk.  Brett Phillips had a hit, Francisco Mejia had a hit and two RBI.  Phillips hit a 

double and Meadows and Arozarena each hit a homerun.  The Rays were 1-7 with runners in scoring 

position and left 11 men on base.  

In the first Meadows hit a solo homerun giving the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the second Mejia hit a two-run

single pushing the Rays lead to 3-0.  In the third Arozarena hit a solo homerun extending the Rays lead

to 4-0 and that would be the final score.  

The Yankees will try and avoid the three-game sweep on Sunday afternoon.  

New York Yankees get hammered by the Tampa Bay Rays

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday afternoon.  The game took place

at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the finals score was 10-5.  Corey Kluber started for the

Yankees and he didn't pitch great, he also wasn't  helped out by his defense.  DJ LeMahieu had two hits

to lead the offense.  

Kluber pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up five hits and five runs with three of them being earned.  He walked

two and struck out three and he took his first loss of the season.  Nick Nelson pitched 1 2/3 innings giving 

up four hits and four runs with a walk and three strikeouts, Lucas Luetge pitched three innings giving up

three hits and a run with four strikeouts and Luis Cessa pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck 

out one.  

Rich Hill won his first game of the season pitching six innings and giving up four hits and four runs.  

He walked none and struck out seven.  Hunter Strickland pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run

with a walk and three strikeouts and Chris Mazza pitched an inning giving up two hits.  

LeMahieu had two hits and an RBI, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and two RBI and Aaron Hicks had a hit

hit.  LeMahieu hit a double and Hicks and LeMahieu each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-1 with

each hit a double and Adames hit a homerun.  The Rays were 6-16 with runners in scoring position and 

left six men on base.  Arozarena had a stolen base.  

In the second Adames hit an RBI double and Phillips hit a sac fly to give the Rays a 2-0 lead.  

Stanton hit a two-run single to tie the game at two and Hicks hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees

a 4-2 lead.  In the bottom of the third Arozarena hit an RBI single, Wendle hit a two-run double and it

was 5-4 Rays.  In the bottom of the fourth Lowe hit a three-run double to make it 8-4.  Diaz hit an RBI

single and it was 9-4 Rays.  In the bottom of the seventh Diaz hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 

10-4.  LeMahieu hit a solo homerun in the eighth to cut the lead to 10-5 but that would be the final 

score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.
