New York Yankees led by Aaron Judge hold off the Toronto Blue Jays

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Ontario, Canada and the final score was 7-4.  Jimmy Cordero started as an opener and pitched great and Jhonny Brito pitched well as the bulk guy.  The offense was led by Aaron Judge who hit two homeruns and had three walks. 

Cordero pitched two perfect innings.  Brito won his third game of the season pitching 5 1/3 innings and giving up six hits and four runs with only one being earned.  He walked none and struck out two, Ian Hamilton pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and Michael King earned his third save of the season pitching 1 1/3 perfect innings. 

Alek Manoah lost his fourth game of the season pitching four innings and giving up six hits and five runs with seven walks and three strikeouts.  Nate Pearson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a run and two walks with a strikeout, Tim Mayza pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Jay Jackson pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts.  Yimi Garcia pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

Jake Bauers drew a walk, Judge had two hits, three RBI and drew three walks and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and an RBI.  Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk, Willie Calhoun had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Anthony Volpe had a hit.  Oswaldo Cabrera drew three walks, Kyle Higashioka had a hit and an RBI and Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew a walk.  Volpe and Rizzo each hit a double and Judge hit two homeruns and Calhoun hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Bauers had a stolen base and Cabrera was picked off.  Torres committed an error. 

George Springer had an RBI, Bo Bichette had two hits and an RBI and Vlad Guerrero Jr. had a hit and an RBI.  Matt Chapman had a hit, Whit Merrifield had a hit and an RBI and Brandon Belt had a hit.  Kevin Kiermaier had two hits.  Kiermaier, Chapman and Guerrero Jr. each hit a double and the Blue Jays were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Merrifield committed an error and Manoah had a pickoff. 

In the first Judge hit a solo homerun and Calhoun hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  In the fourth Higashioka hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 4-0.  Judge drew an RBI walk extending the lead to 5-0.  In the sixth Rizzo hit an RBI double and it was 6-0.  Judge hit a solo homerun in the eighth making it 7-0.  In the bottom of the eighth Merrifield hit an RBI single, Springer had an RBI groundout and Bichette hit an RBI single and it was 7-3 Yankees.  Guerrero Jr. hit an RBI double cutting the lead to 7-4 but that was as close as it would get.  The Yankees took the first game of the series and the two teams will play game two of four on Tuesday night.

The New York Yankees rally for a wild win over the Tampa Bay Rays

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-8.  It was a wild game that saw the Yankees get down 6-0 and then rally back against one of the best pitchers in baseball. 

Nestor Cortes Jr. started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  The bullpen did a good job and the offense was led by Anthony Rizzo who had three hits. 

Cortes pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and six runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Jimmy Cordero pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and picked up his third win of the season, Ron Marinaccio pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs and Clay Holmes pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out three.  Wandy Peralta picked up his second save of the season and he pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

Shane McClanahan started for the Rays and he pitched four innings giving up five hits and four runs with four walks and three strikeouts.  Ryan Thompson pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and five runs with two walks and he took his first loss of the season.  Javy Guerra pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Jalen Beeks pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three. 

Gleyber Torres drew two walks, Aaron Judge had two hits, four RBI and drew a walk and Rizzo had three hits.  DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Harrison Bader drew a walk and Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit and two RBI.  Anthony Volpe had a hit, Jake Bauers had a hit and drew a walk and Kyle Higashioka had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Rizzo hit a double, Higashioka hit a homerun and Judge hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Volpe had two stolen bases. 

Yandy Diaz had two hits and four RBI, Wander Franco had a hit and Randy Arozarena had three hits, three RBI and drew a walk.  Isaac Paredes had a hit, Brandon Lowe had a hit and Taylor Walls had a hit and an RBI.  Manuel Margot drew a walk, Luke Raley had a hit and Jose Siri drew a walk.  Francisco Mejia had two hits, Franco hit a double and Diaz hit a homerun.  The Rays were 5-13 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the second Walls hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Diaz hit a grand-slam pushing the lead to 5-0 and Arozarena hit an RBI single making it 6-0.  In the bottom of the fifth Higashioka hit a two-run homerun cutting the lead to 6-2.  Judge hit a two-run homerun and it was 6-4 Rays.  In the bottom of the sixth a wild pitch made it 6-5 and a Judge homerun gave the Yankees the lead at 7-6.  Cabrera hit a two-run single increasing the lead to 9-6.  In the seventh Arozarena hit a two-run single cutting the lead to 9-8 and that would be the final score of the game. 

The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.
