The Mets shutout the Miami Marlins as Bartolo Colon goes the distance



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Saturday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 7-0 Mets.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched great, the offense had two hits from Juan Lagares, David Wright and Travis d'Arnaud. 

Colon pitched a complete game shutout giving up nine hits and he struck out two.  Colon won his 13th game of the season. 

Brad Hand lost his fifth game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up six hits and seven runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Andre Rienzo pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk, Erik Cordier pitched two innings giving up a hit and walking one, Raudel Lazo pitched an inning striking out one and Jose urena pitched a perfect inning.

Lagares had two hits and two RBI, Wright had two hits and drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and drew a walk.  Juan Uribe drew two walks, Travis d'Arnaud had two hits and four RBI and Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI.  Eric Campbell had a hit, d'Arnaud, Flores and Lagares each hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Campbell was caught stealing. 

Dee Gordon had a hit, Christian Yelich had a hit and Martin Prado had a hit.  Justin Bour had two hits, Derek Dietrich had a hit and J.T. Realmuto had two hits.  Miguel Rojas had a hit, Realmuto hit a double and the Marlins were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Suzuki had an outfield assist. 

In the first d'Arnaud hit a three run homerun and Flores hit a solo homerun to give them a 4-0 lead.  In the second inning Lagares hit a two run homerun and d'Arnaud hit an RBI single to make it 7-0 Mets which would be the final score.  The two teams have split the first two games of three.  The rubber game will be tomorrow afternoon. 

The New York Yankees lose a tough one to the Tampa Bay Rays


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2 Tampa Bay.  Nathan Eovaldi who has been so good lately wasn't very sharp, he pitched ok but not deep into the game.  The bullpen was good and the offense didn't do too much. 

Eovaldi pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with four walks and seven strikeouts.  Eovaldi lost his third game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched an inning walking two and striking out one, Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Nick Rumbelow pitched an inning giving up a hit.  James Pazos made his major league debut and pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Andrew Bailey pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked one batter. 

Matt Moore pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Brandon Gomes pitched 1/3 of an inning walking one, Xavier Cedeno pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out four.  Cedeno won his fourth game of the season, Alex Colome pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout and Brad Boxberger saved his 34th game of the season pitching a perfect inning. 

Brett Gardner had an RBI, Chris Young drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez drew a walk.  Carlos Beltran had a hit, Chase headley had two hits and Greg Bird had a hit.  John Ryan Murphy drew two walks, Brian McCann drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Gregorius hit a double and the Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Murphy had a passed ball. 

John Jaso had two hits and drew a walk, Daniel Nava drew a walk and Evan Longoria drew a walk.  Richie Shaffer  drew two walks, Grady Sizemore drew a walk and Logan Forsythe had a hit.  Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Kevin Kiermaier had two hits and an RBI and Forsythe hit a double and the Rays were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

In the second Kiermaier hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the third Cabrera hit a two run single to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the fifth Gregorius hit an RBI double to cut the lead down to 3-1 and then Gardner hit an RBI groundout to make it 3-2 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees had the bases loaded in the eighth but couldn't tie the game.  The two teams have split the first two games and will play the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Mets lose in extra innings to the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Friday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 6-5 in ten innings.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched ok, the bullpen was pretty good.  Yoenis Cespedes, Travis d'Arnaud and Kelly Johnson each had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched six innings giving up nine hits and three runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  Sean Gilmartin gave up two hits and two runs, Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout and Hansel Robles pitched a perfect inning.  Tyler Clippard pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Erik goeddel pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and he lost his first game of the season.  Eric O'Flaherty pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

Tom Koehler pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with five walks and four strikeouts.  Mike Dunn pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk, Bryan Morris pitched an inning giving up two hits and A.J. Ramos pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a walk and he blew his sixth save of the season.  Kyle Barraclough pitched an inning striking out the side, Brian Ellington won his first game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, David Wright drew a walk and Cespedes had two hits and two RBI.  Michael Conforto had an RBI, d'Arnaud had two hits and drew two walks and Juan Lagares had a hit.  Juan Uribe had a hit, Kelly Johnson had two hits and two RBI and Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores drew a walk, deGrom had a hit and drew a walk and Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit.  Cespedes hit a triple and a homerun and the Mets were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.

In the fourth Bour hit an RBI single to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  Realmuto hit a sac fly to make it 2-0.  Rojas hit an RBI single to make it 3-0 Marlins.  In the sixth Conforto hit an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 3-1 and Johnson hit an RBI single to make it 3-2 Marlins.  In the seventh Cespedes hit a two run homerun to make it 4-3 Mets.  In the bottom of the seventh Prado hit an RBI single to tie the game at four.  Ozuna had an RBI walk in the seventh to make it 5-4 Marlins.  The Mets tied the game in the ninth on a Johnson RBI single.  In the eleventh Prado hit an RBI walk-off double to give the Marlins a 6-5 win.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.   

The New York Yankees begin big home stand with a victory over the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and was great, the bullpen was pretty good and the offense had three homeruns. 

Severino pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and a run with three walks and five strikeouts.  He won his third game of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning, Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Andrew Miller saved his 30th game of the season pitched 2/3 of an inning and striking out one. 

Jake Odorizzi lost his eighth game of the season pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up three hits and five runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.  Enny Romero pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out one and C.J. Riefenhauser pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Brian McCann had had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and two RBI.  Greg Bird had a hit and two RBI, Rodriguez, Bird and McCann each hit a homerun.  The Yankees left one player on base. 

Grady Sizemore had a hit, Daniel Nava had a hit and Evan Longoria had a hit and an RBI.  Logan Forsythe had a hit, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk and James Loney had two hits and drew a walk.  Kevin Kiermaier had a hit and drew a walk, J.P. Arencibia had a hit and an RBI.  Nava and Arencibia each it a double and Longoria hit a homerun.  The Rays were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Forsythe was caught stealing. 

In the second Rodriguez hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth McCann hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the sixth Longoria hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the seventh Bird hit a two run homerun to increase the Yankees lead to 5-1.  In the ninth Arencibia hit an RBI double to make it 5-2 but that was the final score. 

The Yankees and Rays will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon and then finish the series on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Mets return to their winning ways against the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 9-4 Mets.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched ok, the bullpen was good.  Yoenis Cespedes and Travis d'Arnaud each had three hits to lead the offensive attack. 

Harvey pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and four runs with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Harvey won his 12th game of the season.  Sean Gilmartin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning and Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning. 

Aaron Nola pitched four innings giving up nine hits and six runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  He lost his second game of the season.  Dalier Hinojosa pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks, Adam Loewen pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout and Colton Murray pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Cespedes had three hits and an RBI and Daniel Murphy had a hit and an RBI.  David Wright had two hits and an RBI, Michael Conforto had two hits and two RBI and d'Arnaud had three hits.  Kelly Johnson had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Ruben Tejada had two hits and four RBI, Johnson hit a double, Murphy hit a double and d'Arnaud hit two doubles.  Tejada, Conforto and Cespedes each hit a homerun and the Mets were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Johnson had a stolen base and Young Jr. had a caught stealing.  Cespedes committed an error. 

Darnell Sweeney had a hit and an RBI, Cesar Hernandez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Odubel Herrera had two hits.  Andres Blanco had two hits, Cody Asche had a hit and Cameron Rupp had a hit.  Freddy Galvis had a hit, Erik Kratz had a hit and two RBI and Kratz hit a double and Sweeney hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Sweeney had an outfield assist. 

In the second Johnson hit an RBI double giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Tejada hit a two run inside-the-park homerun to make it 3-0 Mets.  In the third Murphy hit an RBI double to push the lead to 4-0 Mets.  Conforto hit a two run homerun in the third to push the lead to 6-0.  In the fifth Kratz hit a two run double to trim the lead to 6-2.  Hernandez hit an RBI single to make it 6-3 Mets.  In the bottom of the fifth Tejada hit an RBI ground out and it was 7-3 Mets.  In the seventh the Phillies cut it to 7-4 on a Sweeney solo homerun.  Tejada hit an RBI single in the seventh to make it an 8-4 game and in the eighth Cespedes hit a solo homerun to make it 9-4 Mets and that would be the final score.  The Mets took two out of three in the series  and will be off on Thursday.  They will begin a three game series in Miami against the Marlins on Friday night and then head to Washington to take on the Nationals next week.   

The New York Yankees use the long ball to take the series from the Boston Red Sox



The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday evening.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 13-8 Yankees.  Masahiro Tanaka started and pitched pretty well, the bullpen made it a bit interesting.  The offense hit five homeruns and Stephen Drew had three hits to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up four runs on six hits.  He walked one and struck out five and won his 11th game of the season.  Andrew Bailey pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks, Justin Wilson pitched to one batter and retired him and Bryan Mitchell pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up four hits and two runs with a walk.  Dellin Betances pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one, Caleb Cotham gave up two hits and a run without recording an out and Andrew Miller pitched an inning walking one batter and striking out a batter. 

Henry Owens pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up six hits and seven runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  He lost his second game of the season.  Ryan Cook pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and four runs with two walks, Heath Hembree pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts and Craig Breslow pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.  Alexi Ogando pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings.

Mookie Betts had a hit and an RBI, Allen Craig drew two walks and Pablo Sandoval had an RBI.  Xander Bogaerts had three hits and two RBI, David Ortiz had a hit and an RBI and Sandy Leon had a hit.  Travis Shaw had two hits and an RBI, Rusney Castillo had two hits and Blake Swihart had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks.  Jackie Bradley Jr. had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Betts, Ortiz, Swihart, Leon and Shaw each hit a double.  Bogaerts hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 5-17 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Swihart had a stolen base and Castillo had an outfield assist. 

The Red Sox took a 1-0 lead in the first on an Ortiz RBI double.  In the second the Yankees answered with eight runs.  Bird hit a two run homerun, Murphy hit a solo homerun which was back-to-back, Young hit an RBI single and Rodriguez hit a two run single.  Beltran hit a two run  homerun and it was 8-1 Yankees.  In the third Drew hit a three run homerun to make it 11-1 and Gregorius hit a solo homerun in the fifth to push the lead to 12-1.  Betts hit a sac fly in the fifth to trim the lead to 12-2 and in the sixth Bogaerts hit a solo homerun to make it a 12-3 game.  In the seventh Sandoval hit a sac fly and Bogaerts hit an RBI single and it was 12-5 Yankees.  In the eighth Pirela hit an RBI single and the lead went up to 13-5.  In the eighth the Red Sox would score a couple of more runs to make it 13-7 and then add one in the ninth to make it 13-8 but that would be the final score.  The Yankees tried to get through it without using their best relievers but couldn't do it.  The Yankees won two out of three in this series and five out of six on the road trip.  They will have an off day on Thursday before opening a ten game homestand on Friday night against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 14-8 Phillies.  Jon Niese started for the Mets and didn't pitch well.  Yoenis Cespedes, David Wright and Michael Conforto each had two hits. 

Niese pitched five innings giving up seven hits and six runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Niese lost his tenth game of the season.  Bobby Parnell pitched giving up three runs with two of them being earned and he walked two and didn't retire a batter, Eric O'Flaherty pitched giving up a run and a walk without recording an out and Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up three hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked a batter, Sean Gilmartin pitched an inning striking out the side, Addison Reed pitched an inning striking out one and Erik Goeddel pitched a perfect inning. 

Aaron Harang pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Hector Neris pitched to one batter and retired him, Jeanmar Gomez won his second game of the season pitching two innings and giving up five hits and two runs with a strikeout and Luis Garcia pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks.  Jerome Williams pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run.

Darnell Sweeney had two hits and three RBI, Cesar Hernandez had a hit and drew a walk and Aaron Altherr drew a walk.  Jeff Francoeur had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Darin Ruf had three hits and six RBI and Andres Blanco had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Carlos Ruiz had a hit and drew a walk, Freddy Galvis had a hit and Cameron Rupp drew a walk.  Galvis, Ruiz, Sweeney and Blanco each hit a double and Ruf hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 7-16 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Altherr had a stolen base. 

The Phillies scored five runs in the third inning and eight in the sixth inning.  The Mets did score four in the fifth and one run in the sixth through ninth innings but it wasn't enough.  The two teams will play the rubber game of the three game series on Wednesday night.

The New York Mets continue their dominance over the Philadelphia Phillies with win



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-1.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched great and Michael Conforto had two of the teams four hits. 

Colon pitched eight innings giving up four hits and no runs with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Colon won his 12th game of the season and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and he saved his 36th game of the season. 

Jerad Eickhoff pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs.  He walked two and struck out four and lost his second game of the season.  Jeanmar Gomez pitched a perfect inning. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Conforto had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Colon had a hit.  Conforto and Granderson each hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Conforto was caught stealing. 

Cesar Hernandez had two hits, Aaron Altherr had a hit and Ryan Howard drew two walks.  Andres Blanco had a hit, Freddy Galvis had a hit and Eickhoff had a hit.  The Phillies were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.   

The New York Yankes hold off the Boston Red Sox as they even their series



The New  York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 3-1 Yankees.  Michael Pineda started and pitched great, the bullpen did their job and the offense got a couple of big hits.  Stephen Drew hit a two run double and Brett Gardner hit a solo homerun. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up one run on four hits.  He walked none and struck out seven and won his tenth game of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out two and Andrew Miller saved his 29th game of the season.  He pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

Rick Porcello pitched great going eight innings and giving up five hits and three runs with only one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out 13.  Porcello lost his 12th game of the season, Tommy Layne pitched to one batter and retired him and Noe Ramirez pitched to two batters and struck them both out. 

Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Carlos Beltran had a hit and Alex Rodriguez had a hit.  Chase Headley drew a walk, Didi Gregorius had a hit and Drew had a hit and two RBI.  Drew hit a double and Gardner hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Mookie Betts had a hit, Pablo Sandoval had a hit and an RBI and Xander Bogaerts ahd two hits.  Brock Holt had a hit, Blake Swihart had a hit and Jackie Bradley Jr. had two hits.  Bradley Jr. hit two doubles and the Red Sox were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left sevenmen on base.  Betts was caught stealing and Shaw committed an error. 

In the third Sandoval hit an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Drew hit a two run double to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the eighth Gardner hit a solo homerun to make it 3-1 Yankees and that was the final score.  The rubber game of the series will be on Wednesday afternoon. 

The New York Yankees fall just short in Boston



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Monday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 4-3 Red Sox.  Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and pitched pretty well.  The Yankees offense had plenty of chances and they just couldn't get the big hit.  Didi Gregorius had four hits and just missed a grand slam in the ninth inning. 

Nova pitched six innings giving up seven hits and three runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Nova lost his seventh game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Chasen Shreve pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two walks and he struck out a batter. 

Eduardo Rodriguez pitched five innings giving up seven hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out four and won his eighth game of the season.  Robbie Ross Jr. pitched an inning giving up a walk and struck out one, Alexi Ogando pitched an inning giving up a walk and Junichi Tazawa pitched an inning giving up two hits.  Jean Machi saved his fourth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a run with three walks and two strikeouts.

In the first Beltran hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Betts hit a two run homerun to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead.  Gregorius hit an RBI single in the fourth to tie the game at two.  Ortiz hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth and it was 3-2 Red Sox.  In the seventh Sandoval hit an RBI groundout to give the Red Sox a 4-2 lead.  In the ninth the Yankees rallied, Headley had an RBI walk to cu the lead to 4-3 but then Bird struck out with the bases loaded and one out and Gregorius just missed a grand slam as it was caught right in front of the wall to end the game. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.  The series will conclude on Wednesday afternoon and then the Yankees will return home for a long homestand.

The New York Mets lose to the Boston Red Sox in extra innings



The New York Mets were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-4 Boston in ten innings.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched very well, the bullpen wasn't good and David Wright, Wilmer Flores and Ruben Tejada each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Harvey pitched six innings giving up two hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out eight.  Logan Verrett pitched an inning and gave up three hits and three runs with two strikeouts, Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.  Carlos Torres lost his sixth game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up four hits and three runs.  Eric O'Flaherty pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Henry Owens pitched five innings giving up five hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out six, Heath Hembree pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Robbie Ross pitched to one batter and retired him.  Alexi Ogando pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit adn a run with three walks.  Jean Machi pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out one, Tommy Layne won his first game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a walk.  Junichi Tazawa pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with four walks and Craig Breslow pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Juan Uribe drew a walk, Curtis Granderson had an RBI and drew three walks.  Yoenis Cespedes had two walks, Wright had two hits and Michael Cuddyer had a hit and drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had two hits, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks and Ruben Tejada had two hits and drew two walks.  Michael Confort drew a walk, Flores hit a double and the Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base. 

Mookie Betts had a hit, Pablo Sandoval drew a walk and Jeff Rutledge had an RBI.  Xander Bogaerts had two hits and an RBI, David Ortiz had two hits and an RBI and Blake Swihart had two hits and an RBI.  Jackie Bradley Jr. had two hits and two RBI, Betts hit a double and Ortiz, Bradley and Swihart each hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Bradley and Swihart each had a stolen base.  Castillo committed an error. 

In the fourth d'Arnaud hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Cuddyer hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Mets.  In the seventh Ortiz hit a solo homerun to cut the Mets lead to 2-1.  Bradley Jr. hit a two run homerun also in the seventh to give the Red Sox a 3-2 lead.  d'Arnaud had an RBI walk to tie the game at three in the seventh.  In the tenth Swihart hit an inside-the-park homerun to give the Red Sox a 4-3 lead and Rutledge hit a sac fly and Bogaerts hit an RBI single and it was 6-3 Red Sox.  The Mets scored in the bottom of the tenth on a Granderson RBI walk to make it 6-4 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon. 

The New York Yankees defeat the Atlanta Braves in a tight low scoring game



The New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves on Saturday night.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 3-1 Yankees.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was pretty good.  No one on offense had more than a hit but McCann and Gregorius each had an RBI. 

Severino won his second game of the season pitching six innings and giving up four hits and no runs.  He walked three and struck otu five.  Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run, Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts and Andrew Miller saved his 28th game of the season.  Miller pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Matt Wisler pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs with four walks and four strikeouts.  Wisler lost his fifth game of the season.  Matt Marksberry pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two, Edwin Jackson pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Arodys Vizcaino pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk, Brett Gardner drew a walk and Carlos Beltran drew two walks.  McCann had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Greg Bird had a hit and drew a walk and Chase Headley had a hit.  Gregorius had a hit and an RBI, Alex Rodriguez pinch hit and received an intentional walk and Brendan Ryan had a pinch hit.  Ellsbury, Headley, Gregorius, McCann and Ryan each hit a double and the Yankees were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Ellsbury was caught stealing and Wilson committed an error. 

Nick Markakis had a hit, Cameron Maybin drew a walk and Freddie Freeman drew a walk.  Nick Swisher had two hits, Adonis Garcia had two hits and Jace Peterson drew two walks.  Christian Bethancourt had two hits, Andrelton Simmons had a hit and Garcia hit a double.  The Braves were 1-8 with runners in scoring positiona nd left ten men on base.  Bourn had a stolen base and Bethancourt had a passed ball. 

In the first a wild pitch scored a run and gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Gregorius hit an RBI double to push the lead to 2-0.  In the bottom of the seventh Gomes hit an RBI force out to cut the lead to 2-1 Yankees.  In the eighth McCann hit an RBI double to increase the lead to 3-1 Yankees and that would be the final score.  The Yankees will go for the sweep on Sunday afternoon when the series concludes.

The New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 15-4 Yankees.  Masahiro Tanaka started and pitched well.  Carlos Beltran had three hits and Didi Gregorius had four hits and six RBI to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up three runs on five hits.  He gave up a walk and struck out seven batters and he won his tenth game of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched 2/3of an inning giving up a walk and striking out two batters.  Bryan Mitchell returned to the mound for the first time after being hit in the face.  He pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk. 

Williams Perez started for the Braves and he pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up five hits nad eight runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  He lost his fifth game of the season.  Ross Detwiler pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks nad two strikeouts, Matt Marksberry pitched an inning giving up a walk and Sugar Ray Marimon pitched two innings and he gave up a walk.  Andrew McKirahan pitched an inning giving up five hits and four runs and he struck out one and Jonny Gomes pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, John Ryan Murphy had a hit and Brett Gardner had two hits.  Beltran had three hits, Brian McCann had a hit and four RBI with three walks and Greg Bird had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.   Chase Headley had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk, Gregorius had four hits and six RBI and Stephen Drew had a walk.  Tanaka drew a walk and Chris Young had a hit and an RBI.  Headley hit two doubles, Beltran, Murphy and Gardner each hit a double.  Gregorius, McCann and Young each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 6-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Murphy had a passed ball.

The Yankees scored five runs in the first inning.  Headley hit a two run double and Gregorius hit a three run homerun.  The Braves came back with a couple of runs in the first.  Freeman hit an RBI single and Swisher hit a sac fly.  In the second Bird had an RBI walk, Headley had an RBI walk and Gregorius hit a two run single to make it 9-2 Yankees.  In the third Freeman hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 9-3.  McCann hit a three run homerun in the eighth and Gregorius hit an RBI single to make it a 13-3 game.  In the ninth Young hit a solo homerun and McCann hit a sac fly to make it 15-3 and Bethancourt hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to complete the scoring.  The Yankees won the game 15-4.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.
