New York Yankees are swept in Anaheim by the Angels

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Anaheim Angels on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California and the final score was 7-3.  Carlos Rodon started for the Yankees and he wasn’t good.  The bullpen did a good job and Franchy Cordero led the offense with three hits. 

Rodon pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four hits and six runs with five walks and three strikeouts.  He took his third loss of the season.  Ian Hamilton pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and three walks with three strikeouts, Wandy Peralta pitched to one batter and got him out and Ron Marinaccio pitched an inning with a walk.  Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks. 

Chase Silseth started for the Angels and he pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and ten strikeouts.  Silseth won his second game of the season.  Jose Soriano pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Jacob Webb pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Matt Moore pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts.  Aaron Loup pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Oswaldo Peraza drew a walk, Gleyber Torres had a hit and Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Cordero had three hits and an RBI and Kyle Higashioka had two hits and an RBI.  Oswaldo Cabrera drew a walk, Cordero hit a double and Stanton and Cordero each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Volpe committed an error and Higashioka had a passed ball. 

Zach Neto had two hits, Shohei Ohtani drew four walks, Taylor Ward had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Mickey Moniak had a hit and an RBI.  Eduardo Escobar had an RBI and drew a walk, Hunter Renfroe drew two walks and Luis Rengifo had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks.  Chad Wallach drew a walk.  Ward hit a double and a homerun and Rengifo hit a homerun.  The Angels were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

IN the bottom of the first Ward hit a two-run homerun giving the Angels a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Rengifo hit a two-run homerun pushing the lead to 4-0.  In the bottom of the third Moniak hit an RBI single extending the lead to 5-0.  Escobar hit into a forceout and a run scored making it 6-0.  In the top of the sixth Stanton hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 6-1.  Higashioka hit an RBI single making it 6-2.  In the top of the eighth Cordero hit a solo homerun making it 6-3.  In the bottom of the eighth Ward hit an RBI double and it was 7-3 which was the final score. 

The Yankees got swept in the three-game series and will be off on Thursday before beginning a three-game series at home with the Kansas City Royals on Friday. 

New York Yankees offense struggles in loss to the Anaheim Angels

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California and the final score was 5-1.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  The Yankees offense managed only two hits. 

German pitched six innings giving up four hits and five runs with three walks and nine strikeouts.  German lost his sixth game of the season.  Albert Abreu pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out four. 

Patrick Sandoval started for the Angels and he pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with three walks and seven strikeouts.  Sandoval won his fifth game of the season.  Jacob Webb pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Carlos Estevez pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Gleyber Torres had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Harrison Bader drew a walk and Isiah Kiner-Falefa drew a walk.  Anthony Volpe had a hit, Torres hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Zach Neto had a hit and drew a walk, Shohei Ohtani had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Mickey Moniak had three hits and three RBI.  Michael Stefanic drew a walk and Ohtani hit a triple.  Moniak hit a homerun and the Angels were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Moniak had a stolen base.  Neto committed an error. 

In the bottom of the first Moniak hit a two-run homerun giving the Angels a 2-0 lead.  In the third Torres hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 2-1.  In the bottom of the third a wild pitch made it 3-1.  In the bottom of the fifth Ohtani hit an RBI triple pushing the lead to 4-1.  Moniak hit an RBI single and it was 5-1 Angels which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Wednesday night.   

New York Yankees blow late lead to Angels and fall in extra innings

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Anaheim Angels on Monday night.  The game took place at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California and the final score was 4-3.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The bullpen didn’t do a great job and Gleyber Torres led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Severino pitched six innings giving up six hits and a run with three walks and three strikeouts.  Michael King pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with three walks and two strikeouts, Ron Marinaccio pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out one and Nick Ramirez took his second loss of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with a walk and three strikeouts.  

Griffin Canning started for the Angels and he pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with three walks and 12 strikeouts.  Jimmy Herget pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Gerardo Reyes pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a run and two walks with two strikeouts and Matt Moore pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.  Aaron Loup pitched an inning with two strikeouts and picked up his first win of the season. 

Oswaldo Peraza had a hit and drew four walks, Torres had two hits and an RBI and Harrison Bader had a hit.  Anthony Volpe had a hit, Isiah Kiner-Falefa had a hit and drew two walks and Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit and two RBI.  DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Cabrera hit a double and the Yankees were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Peraza had a stolen base and he was picked off.  Bader had an outfield assist. 

Zach Neto had a hit, Shohei Ohtani had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Mickey Moniak had a hit and drew a walk.  Taylor Ward drew two walks, Mike Moustakas had a hit and Matt Thaiss had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Hunter Renfroe drew two walks, Trey Cabbage had a hit, Eduardo Escobar drew a walk and Michael Stefanic had a hit and an RBI.  Ohtani and Cabbage each hit a double, Thaiss and Ohtani each hit a homerun and the Angels were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Renfroe committed an error and Canning had a pickoff. 

In the sixth Cabrera hit a two-run double giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Thaiss hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 2-1.  In the top of the seventh Torres hit a sac fly pushing the Yankees lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the seventh Ohtani hit a two-run homerun tying the game at three.  In the bottom of the tenth Stefanic hit a walk-off single giving the Angels a 4-3 victory. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees start out fast and then stop hitting in loss to the Colorado Rockies

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.  The game took place at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado and the final score was 7-2.  Carlos Rodon started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  Gleyber Torres led the offense with three hits and a couple other players had two hits each. 

Rodon pitched five innings giving up four hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Rodon took his second loss of the season.  Michael King pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts and Albert Abreu pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run. 

Austin Gomber started for the Rockies and he pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs.  He walked none and struck out two.  Gomber won his eighth game of the season.  Pierce Johnson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Daniel Bard pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Justin Lawrence pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

Torres had three hits, Giancarlo Stanton had two hits and two RBI and Anthony Rizzo had a hit.  Josh Donaldson drew a walk, DJ LeMahieu had two hits and Stanton hit a double and a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Kris Bryant had a hit and two RBI, Elias Diaz drew a walk and CJ Cron had a hit and drew a walk.  Randal Grichuk had two hits and an RBI, Nolan Jones had a hit and an RBI and Ezequiel Tovar had a hit and an RBI.  Brenton Doyle had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, he hit a double and Grichuk, Bryant and Jones each hit a homerun.  The Rockies were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Doyle had a stolen base. 

In the top of the first Stanton hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Tovar hit an RBI single, Doyle hit a two-run double and the Rockies had a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Grichuk hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 4-2.  In the bottom of the seventh Bryant hit a two-run homerun and the lead increased to 6-2.  In the bottom of the eighth Jones hit a solo homerun and the score was 7-2 which was the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.
