New York Yankees take game one of big series over the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-1.  J.A. Happ started for the Yankees and he pitched well and the bullpen pitched great.  DJ LeMahieu and Gio Urshela led the offense with two hits each. 

Happ pitched five innings giving up three hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out five and earned his fifth win of the season.  Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Zack Britton pitched an inning with a walk.  Aroldis Chapman earned his 16th save of the season pitching an inning and he struck out two. 

Chris Sale lost his seventh game of the season pitching six innings and giving up seven hits and four runs.  He walked one and struck out ten.  Ryan Brasier pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts and Josh Taylor pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

LeMahieu had two hits and two RBI, Aaron Hicks had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit.  Gleyber Torres had a hit, Urshela had two hits and Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk.  LeMahieu and Urshela each hit a double.  LeMahieu hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Torres was caught stealing and Sanchez had a pickoff. 

Mookie Betts drew a walk, Andrew Benintendi drew two walks and Xander Bogaerts had a hit.  Rafael Devers had a hit and an RBI, Eduardo Nunez had a hit and Jackie Bradley Jr. had two hits.  Devers hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Nunez was picked off. 

In the second Devers hit a solo homerun to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the third LeMahieu hit an RBI double to tie the game at one and Hicks hit a two-run single to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead.  In the fifth LeMahieu hit a solo homerun to push their lead to 4-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.   

The New York Mets are swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers


The New York Mets were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday.  The game took place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California and the final score was 2-0.  Jason Vargas started for the Mets and pitched very well but the offense only managed four hits. 

Vargas pitched seven innings giving up six hits and a run with three walks and six strikeouts.  Vargas took his third loss of the season.  Hector Santiago pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run and Drew Gagnon pitched 1/3 of an inning striking out the only batter that he faced. 

Hyun-Jin Ryu won his eighth game of the season pitching 7 2/3 innings and giving up four hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out seven.  Kenley Jansen saved his 16th game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and striking out two. 

Pete Alonso had a hit, Todd Frazier drew a walk and Carlos Gomez had a hit.  Tomas Nido had a hit, Wilson Ramos had a hit and Alonso hit a double.  The Mets were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Chris Taylor had a hit, Max Muncy had a hit and an RBI and David Freese had two hits.  Cody Bellinger had a hit and drew a walk, Kiki Hernandez had a hit and an RBI and Alex Verdugo had two hits and drew a walk.  Russell Martin had a hit, Ryu drew a walk and Muncy and Freese each hit a double.  Taylor hit a triple and the Dodgers were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Verdugo had a stolen base. 

In the first Muncy hit an RBI double to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.  In the eighth Hernandez hit an RBI single to push their lead to 2-0 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets were swept in the four-game series and will now head to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks in a three-game series that begins on Friday night.

New York Mets blow late lead for a horrible loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers


The New York Mets were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California and the final score was 9-8.  Noah Syndergaard and started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The Mets bullpen did not pitch well and Dom Smith and Pete Alonso led the offense with three hits each. 

Syndergaard pitched six innings giving up seven hits and three runs.  He walked two and struck out five.  Robert Gsellman pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Edwin Diaz lost his third game of the season and blew his second save of the season.  Diaz pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up five hits and four runs with a walk. 

Walker Buehler pitched five innings giving up seven hits and five runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Pedro Baez pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Julio Urias pitched an inning giving up four hits and two runs with a strikeout and Yimi Garcia pitched an inning with a walk.  Scott Alexander won his third game of the season pitching an inning with a walk. 

Amed Rosario had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Smith had three hits and an RBI and Alonso had three hits and four RBI.  Michael Conforto had a hit and drew a walk, Wilson Ramos drew a walk and Todd Frazier had two hits.  Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits and two RBI, Syndergaard had a hit and Frazier, Conforto and Hechavarria each hit a double.  Syndergaard also hit a double and Alonso hit two homeruns.  Rosario and Smith each hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Hechavarria was caught stealing and Gomez had an outfield assist. 

Joc Pederson had two hits and an RBI, Max Muncy had two hits and an RBI and Justin Turner had three hits and two RBI.  Cody Bellinger had a hit and an RBI, Corey Seager had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Matt Beaty had three hits and an RBI.  Alex Verdugo had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Buehler drew two walks and Bellinger, Turner, Muncy, Pederson, Beaty, Verdugo each hit a double.  Seager hit two doubles and Seager, Muncy and Pederson each hit a homerun.  The Dodgers were 6-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Beaty had a stolen base and he committed an error.  Pederson had an outfield assist.  

In the first Alonso hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the second Hechavarria hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the second Beaty hit an RBI double, Verdugo hit an RBI double and the lead was cut to 3-2.  In the third Turner hit an RBI single to tie the game at three.  In the fifth Alonso hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets back the lead at 5-3.  In the sixth Hechavarria hit an RBI single to push the Mets lead to 6-3.  In the seventh Rosario and Smith each hit a solo homerun to make it 8-3 Mets.  In the bottom of the seventh Turner hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 8-4 and in the bottom of the eighth Seager hit a solo homerun making it 8-5.  In the bottom of the ninth Pederson hit a solo homerun, Muncy hit a solo homerun and Bellinger hit an RBI double to tie the game at eight.  Verdugo hit a walk-off sac fly to give the Dodgers a 9-8 victory.  The Mets have lost the first three games of the series and will try to salvage one on Thursday.

New York Yankees win rubber game against the San Diego Padres


The New York Yankees defeated the San Diego Padres on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-0.  James Paxton started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was good.  Luke Voit, Gleyber Torres and Cameron Maybin each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Paxton pitched four innings giving up two walks and he struck out seven.  Chad Green pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Jonathan Holder won his fourth game of the season pitching two innings and giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Nestor Cortes Jr. pitched an inning giving up two hits and he walked one.   

Chris Paddack pitched five innings giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and six strikeouts and he lost his third game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with two being earned.  He struck out one and Luis Perdomo pitched 1 2/3 innings with a walk and two strikeouts. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Voit had two hits and an RBI and Torres had two hits and two RBI.  Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Gio Urshela had a hit and an RBI and Maybin had two hits.  Austin Romine had a hit, Voit hit a triple and LeMahieu, Urshela, Torres and Voit each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Maybin had two stolen bases and Torres committed an error. 

Wil Myers had a hit, Manny Machado drew two walks and Eric Hosmer had a hit.  Hunter Renfroe had a hit, Austin Allen had a hit and Manuel Margot drew a walk.  Allen hit a double and the Padres were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Myers had a stolen base and Hedges committed an error. 

In the first LeMahieu and Voit went back-to-back with homeruns to lead off the game and give them a quick 2-0 lead.  In the second Urshela hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-0.  In the fifth Gardner hit a sac fly to make it a 4-0 game and in the sixth a stolen base by Maybin and a throwing error allowed a run to score and make it a 5-0 game.  In the seventh Torres hit a two-run homerun and the lead was 7-0 and that was the final score. 

The Yankees won two out of three in the series and took their eighth straight series for the first time since 1998.  They will now face the Red Sox in a four-game series at home beginning on Thursday night. 

New York Mets defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers to even series


The New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California and the final score was 7-3.  Steven Matz started and pitched well and Carlos Gomez led the offense with three hits.

Matz won his fourth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up four hits and two runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  Robert Gsellman pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Edwin Diaz pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Rich Hill pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Yimi Garcia pitched giving up a run and a walk and he lost his second game of the season, Dylan Floro pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two runs with one earned and he walked one and struck out one and Scott Alexander pitched giving up a hit and a run.  Ross Stripling pitched giving up 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.  Joe Kelly pitched an inning walking two and struck out one.

David Freese had a hit and drew a walk, Matt Beaty had a hit and an RBI and Cody Bellingern had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Chris Taylor had a hit, Max Muncy drew two walks and Corey Seager had a hit.  Will Smith had two hits, Alex Verdugo had a hit and drew a walk and Smith and Verdugo each hit a double.  Belllinger hit a homerun and the Dodgers were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Floro committed an error. 

In the third Conforto reached on a fielder’s choice and a run scored to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Bellinger hit a two-run homerun to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Frazier hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  In the seventh Conforto hit a grand slam to give the Mets a 6-2 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh Beaty hit an RBI single to make it a 6-3 game.  In the eighth Rosario hit an RBI triple to make it 7-3 and that would be the final score. 




New York Yankees fall just short in loss to the San Diego Padres


The New York Yankees were defeated by the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he had a rough first inning but then settled down.  The Yankees bullpen pitched well and Luke Voit and Aaron Hicks each had two hits. 

Tanaka lost his fourth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up nine hits and five runs with four of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out seven.  Joe Harvey pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he walked two and struck out two and Luis Cessa pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two. 

Eric Lauer pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with four strikeouts and he won his fourth game of the season.  Matt Wisler pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout, Brad Wieck pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a run and a walk with a strikeout and Phil Maton pitched giving up a run and a walk without recording an out.  Robbie Erlin pitched giving up a hit and a run without recording an out, Craig Stammen pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out one and Kirby Yates saved his 21st game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit.

Greg Garcia had two hits and an RBI and drew a walk, Franmil Reyes had a hit and Manny Machado had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Eric Hosmer had two hits and three RBI, Hunter Renfroe drew two walks and Wil Myers had a hit.  Ty France had two hits, Austin Hedges had a hit and drew a walk.  France hit a double and Hosmer hit a homerun.  The Padres were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

In the first Machado hit an RBI single and Hosmer hit a three-run homerun to give the Padres a 4-0 lead.  In the fourth Sanchez hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the sixth Garcia hit an RBI single to push the lead to 5-1.  In the seventh LeMahieu hit a two-run single cutting the lead to 5-3 and Hicks hit into a force out making it 5-4 but that would be as close as they got.  5-4 would be the final score.  The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Wednesday afternoon.   

The New York Mets fall to the Los Angeles Dodgers


The New York Mets were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night.  The game took place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California and the final score was 9-5.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched well, the bullpen didn’t do a good job.  Amed Rosario and Adeiny Hechavarria each had three hits to lead the Mets offense. 

deGrom pitched five innings giving up seven hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out two.  Tyler Bashlor pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs and he took his second loss of the season, Daniel Zamora pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and Wilmer Font pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit.  Drew Gagnon pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Clayton Kershaw won his fifth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up ten hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out five.  Pedro Baez pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout, Joe Kelly pitched giving up three hits and two runs without recording an out and Dylan Floro pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit.  Kenley Jansen pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out three.  Jansen saved his 15th game of the season. 

Rosario had three hits, J.D. Davis had a hit and two RBI and Michael Conforto had a hit and drew two walks.  Pete Alonso had two hits and an RBI, Todd Frazier had two hits and Hechavarria had three hits and two RBI.  Dom Smith had a hit, Tomas Nido had a hit and deGrom had a hit.  Conforto hit a double and Rosario hit two doubles.  Alonso hit a triple and Hechavarria and Davis each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.

In the first Alonso hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Seager hit into a force out and a run scored to tie the game at one.  In the third Bellinger hit a solo homerun to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Davis hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets back the lead at 3-2.  In the sixth Taylor hit a solo homerun to tie the game at three.  Hernandez hit a three-run homerun to give the Dodgers a 6-3 lead and Seager was hit by a pitch to make it 7-3.  Verdugo hit a sac fly to push the lead to 8-3.  In the eighth Hechavarria hit a two-run homerun to make it a 8-5 game and in the bottom of the eighth Taylor hit an RBI single to make it 9-5 and that was the final score of the game. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

New York Mets rally to beat the Detroit Tigers


The New York Mets defeated the Detroit Tigers on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-3.  Zack Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Wheeler and Dom Smith each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Wheeler pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Wheeler won his fourth game of the season.  Jeurys Familia pitched 2/3 of an inning with two strikeouts and Edwin Diaz saved his 13th game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts. 

Spencer Turnbull pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Turnbull lost his fourth game of the season.  Daniel Stumpf pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Zac Reininger pitched to one and retired him. 

Smith had two hits, Wilson Ramos had a hit and Todd Frazier had a hit and an RBI.  Carlos Gomez had a hit, Adeiny Hechavarrie had a hit and three RBI and Wheeler had two hits.  Smith hit a double and Hechavarria hit a homerun.  The Mets were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Gomez had a stolen base. 

Niko Goodrum had a hit and drew a walk, Nick Castellanos had two hits and three RBI and Christin Stewart drew a walk.  Brandon Dixon had a hit, Jacoby Jones had two hits and Castellanos hit a homerun.  The Tigers were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Jones, Harrison and Dixon each had a stolen base. 

In the first Castellanos hit a solo homerun to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  In the third Castellanos hit a two-run single to make it 3-0.  In the fourth Frazier hit an RBI single and Hechavarrie hit a three-run homerun to give the Mets a 4-3 lead which would be the final score of the game.

The New York Yankees defeated the San Diego Padres on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Chad Green was the opener and he pitched one great inning and the bullpen was excellent in this game.  Clint Frazier had two hits to lead the offense. 

Green pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts, David Hale picked up his first win of the season pitching four innings and giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one, Tommy Khanle pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Zack Britton pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Aroldis Chapman picked up his 15th save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit. 

Matt Strahm pitched six innings giving up four hits and three runs with three walks and ten strikeouts.  Strahm  lost his fourth game of the season.  Trey Wingenter pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two, Craig Stammen pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with one being earned and Phil Maton pitched to two batters and got them both out.

In the second Naylor hit an RBI double and Hedges hit an RBI double to give the Padres a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Frazier hit a solo homerun and Gardner hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the eighth Sanchez hit a solo homerun and Maybin hit an RBI single to push the lead to 5-2 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night. 

New York Yankees fail to sweep the road trip with extra innings loss in Kansas City


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri and the final score was 8-7 in 10 innings.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he was roughed up.  Nestor Cortes Jr. ate up some innings out of the bullpen and Clint Frazier had three hits to lead the offense. 

German pitched five innings giving up nine hits and seven runs with six strikeouts.  Cortes Jr. pitched four innings giving up four hits and he walked two with four strikeouts and Jonathan Holder took his second loss of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Danny Duffy pitched six innings giving up five hits and four runs with one being earned.  He walked one and struck out four.  Wily Peralta pitched an inning giving up two hits, Jake Diekman pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts and Ian Kennedy pitched an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Kevin McCarthy pitched an inning and he gave up a walk and won his first game of the season.

In the second Frazier hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Maldonado hit a three-run homerun giving the Royals a 3-1 lead.  In the fourth O’Hearn hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 4-1.  In the fifth Dozier hit a two-run homerun to increase the lead to 6-1.  Soler hit a solo homerun and it was 7-1 Royals.  In the sixth Torres hit a three-run homerun to cut the lead to 7-4.  In the ninth LeMahieu hit an RBI single and Hicks hit a two-run single to tie the game at seven.  In the bottom of the tenth Merrifield hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Royals the 8-7 victory. 

The Yankees had won their first six games of this seven-game road trip and they won the first two games of this three game series.  The Yankees will return home on Monday after a 6-1 road trip to take on the San Diego Padres.
