New York Mets get crushed by the St. Louis Cardinals


The New York Mets were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday.  The game took place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri and the final score was 10-2.  Chris Flexen made his season debut for the Mets and he didn’t pitch well.  The bullpen didn’t pitch well either and the offense only managed four hits. 

Flexen pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and six runs with five being earned.  He walked four and lost his first game of the season.  Luis Avilan pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts, Jacob Rhame pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with two walks and Paul Sewald pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run. 

Miles Mikolas pitched eight innings giving up four hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Mikolas won his second game of the season.  Giovanny Gallegos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brandon Nimmo drew a walk, Robinson Cano had a hit and Jeff McNeil had a hit and drew a walk.  Amed Rosario had a hit and an RBI, J.D. Davis had an RBI, Flexen had a hit and Rosario hit a triple.  The Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Ramos had a passed ball. 

Matt Carpenter had a hit and drew two walks, Paul Goldschmidt had a hit and an RBI and Paul DeJong had two hits and an RBI.  Marcell Ozuna drew three walks, Jose Martinez had three hits and three RBI and Jose Molina had two hits and two RBI.  Kolten Wong drew two walks, Mikolas had a hit and two RBI and Martinez hit a double.  DeJong hit two doubles and Goldschmidt hit a homerun.  The Cardinals were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Ozuna had a stolen base. 

In the second a passed ball gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.  Mikolas hit a two-run single to push the Cardinals lead to 3-0.  In the third Martinez hit an RBI single to make it a 4-0 game.  Molina hit a sac fly and it was 5-0.  In the bottom of the fifth Molina hit an RBI single to extend the Cardinals lead to 6-0.  In the bottom of the sixth DeJong hit an RBI double and Martinez hit a two-run double and it was a 9-0 game.  In the seventh Rosario hit an RBI triple to cut the lead to 9-1 and Davis hit an RBI ground out making it a 9-2 game.  In the eighth Goldschmidt hit a solo homerun and it was 10-2 which would be the final score of the game. 

The Mets will try and salvage the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.   

New York Yankees win second in a row over the Kansas City Royals


The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched very well.  Clint Frazier led the offense with three hits. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with three walks and seven strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season.  Jonathan Holder pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Heath Fillmyer pitched four innings giving up seven hits and six runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Fillmyer lost his first game of the season.  Glenn Sparkman pitched three innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts and Jake Newberry pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had two hits and an RBI and Luke Voit had a hit.  Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI, Frazier had three hits and two RBI and Mike Ford drew two walks.  Gio Urshela had three hits, Austin Romine had two hits and an RBI and Mike Tauchman had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Romine, Frazier and Urshela each hit a double and LeMahieu, Tauchman and Frazier each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

Whit Merrifield had a hit and an RBI, Adalberto Mondesi drew a walk and Hunter Dozier had a hit and drew two walks.  Chris Owings had a hit and an RBI,Jorge Soler drew a walk and Lucas Duda had two hits.  Billy Hamilton had a hit, Dozier hit a double and Hamilton hit a triple.  Owings, Merrifield each hit a homerun.  The Royals were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the first Judge hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Frazier hit a solo homerun to push the Yankees lead to 2-0.  In the fourth Tauchman hit a three-run homerun to make it a 5-0 game.  LeMahieu hit a homerun making it a 6-0 game.  In the sixth Merrifield hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-1.  In the bottom of the sixth Torres and Frazier each hit an RBI single to extend the Yankees lead to 8-1.  In the seventh Romine hit an RBI single and it was 9-1 Yankees.  In the ninth Owings hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 9-2 and that would be the final score. 

The teams will play the fourth and final game on Sunday afternoon.  The Yankees have won two out of three so far and four of their last five games. 


New York Mets hold off the St. Louis Cardinals


The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night.  The game took place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri and the final score was 5-4.  Jason Vargas started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Robinson Cano led the offense with three hits and Pete Alonso, J.D. Davis and Juan Lagares each had two hits. 

Vargas pitched four innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and three strikeouts.  Seth Lugo won his first game of the season pitching two innings giving up four hits and two runs and three strikeouts.  Jeurys Familia pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and an unearned run, Justin Wilson pitched giving up a hit and a walk and Robert Gsellman pitched 2/3 of an inning.  Edwin Diaz pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and saved his seventh game of the season. 

Adam Wainwright pitched three innings giving up eight hits and four runs with three being earned.  He walked three and struck out three and lost his second game of the season.  Giovanny Gallegos pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts, Ryan Helsley pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Dominic Leone pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit.  Tyler Webb pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, John Brebbia pitched to one batter and got him out and John Gant pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Alonso had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Cano had three hits and an RBI and Michael Conforto drew three walks.  Wilson Ramos had a hit and two RBI, Davis had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Amed Rosario had a hit.  Lagares had two hits, Cano hit two doubles and hit a double.  Alonso hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-14 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Rosario and Davis each committed an error.

In the first Ramos hit an RBI single, Davis hit an RBI double and the Mets had a 2-0 lead.  In the second Cano hit an RBI single to push the Mets lead to 3-0.  In the fourth Ramos hit an RBI ground out to extend the Mets lead to 4-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Martinez hit a solo homerun and the lead was cut to 4-1.  In the sixth Alonso hit a solo homerun to make it a 5-1 game.  In the bottom of the sixth Thomas hit a two-run homerun after an umpire review and the lead was cut to 5-3.  In the eighth Fowler hit an RBI single to make it a 5-4 game.  That would be the final score of the game. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday. 

New York Yankees defeat the Kansas City Royals


The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-2.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The Yankees bullpen did their job and Tyler Wade had two hits and Brett Gardner had two RBI to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched five innings giving up three hits and an unearned run.  He walked four and struck out five and won his first game of the season.  Luis Cessa pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Tommy Kahnle pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout.  Zack Britton pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Jakob Junis pitched 5 1/3 in3nings giving up six hits and five runs with four of them being earned.  walked two and struck out two and lost his second game of the season.  Jake Diekman pitched 2/3 of an inning, Brad Boxberger pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with three walks and Jake Newberry pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Billy Hamilton drew two walks, Adalberto Mondesi had a hit and an RBI and Hunter had a hit and drew a walk.  Alex Gordon had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Jorge Soler had a hit and Martin Maldonado drew a walk.  Terrance Gore had a hit and drew a walk.  Gordon and Dozier each hit a double and the Royals were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Mondesi had a stolen base and Hamilton had two stolen bases and was caught stealing once.  Merrifield and Dozier each committed an error and Maldonado had a passed ball. 

In the third Mondesi hit an RBI single to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.  In the third Gardner hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Tauchman hit a solo homerun to push their lead to 3-1.   In the sixth Gordon hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 3-2 and in the bottom of the sixth LeMahieu hit a sac fly to extend the Yankees lead to 4-2.  Frazier had an RBI walk and it was 5-2 Yankees.  In the seventh Wade hit an RBI bunt single and it was 6-2 Yankees and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of four on Saturday afternoon. 




New York Yankees are defeated by the Kansas City Royals


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-1.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he had a quality start.  The Yankees bullpen did not pitch well and the offense only produced four hits. 

German pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with no walks and nine strikeouts.  German lost his first game of the season.  Jonathan Holder pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout, Zack Britton pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Chad Green pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two.  Joe Harvey pitched an inning giving up a run and a walk with a strikeout. 

Homer Bailey won his second game of the season pitching six innings and giving up three hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts.  Richard Lovelady pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out one and Ian Kennedy pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.

In the first Gordon hit an RBI double to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Torres hit a sac fly to tie the game at one.  In the second Soler hit a solo homerun to give the Royals a 2-1 lead and in the fourth O’Hearn hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 3-1.  In the seventh Merrifield hit an RBI double and Mondesi hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 5-1.  In the ninth Mondesi hit a sac fly to make it 6-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of four on Friday night.   

New York Mets drop a close one to the Philadelphia Phillies


The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 3-2.  Zack Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Jeff McNeil and Michael Conforto each had two hits to lead the Mets offense. 

Wheeler pitched seven innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  Wheeler won his first game of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Jake Arrieta started for the Phillies and he pitched eight innings giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Arrieta won his third game of the season.  Adam Morgan pitched to one batter and got him out and Hector Neris pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two to earn his second save of the season.

McNeil had two hits, Pete Alonso had a hit and Conforto had two hits and an RBI.   J.D. Davis had a hit, Amed Rosario had a hit and an RBI and Travis d’Arnaud drew a walk.  Dom Smith drew a walk, Conforto hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Conforto had a stolen base. 

Scott Kingery had a hit and an RBI, Bryce Harper drew a walk and Rhys Hoskins drew walk.  J.T. Realmuto had two hits, Odubel Herrera had a hit and Cesar Hernandez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Maikel Franco had an RBI, Hernandez and Kingery each hit a homerun and the Phillies were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the second Franco hit a sac fly to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Kingery hit a solo homerun to push the Phillies lead to 2-0.  In the sixth Hernandez hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the seventh Conforto hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 3-1.  In the ninth Rosario hit an RBI single making it a 3-2 game but that would be the final score.

New York Yankees sweep the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-3.  J.A. Happ started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen pitched well and Clint Frazier led the offense with three hits. 

Happ pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Tommy Khanle picked up his first victory of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and striking out one, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning with a strikeout and picked up his third save of the season. 

Nathan Eovaldi pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run which was unearned.  He walked one and struck out six.  Brandon Workman picked up his first loss of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and a strikeout, Ryan Brasier pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts and Heath Hembree pitched a perfect inning with a  strike out. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and four RBI, Luke Voit had a hit and drew a walk and Frazier had three hits and an RBI.  Mike Tauchman drew a walk, Austin Romine drew a walk and Frazier and Voit each hit a double.  Gardner hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.   

Xander Bogaerts had a hit, J.D. Martinez had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Steve Pearce had a hit.  Mitch Moreland had a hit and drew a walk, Rafael Devers had two hits and Christian Vasquez had a hit and two RBI.  Martinez and Vasquez each hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Devers had a stolen base and Nunez committed an error. 

In the first Martinez hit a solo homerun to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the second Vazquez hit a two-run homerun to push the Red Sox lead to 3-0.  In the fourth Frazier hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the seventh Gardner hit a grand-slam to give the Yankees a 5-3 lead and that would be the final score of the game. 

The Yankees swept the brief two-game series and will remain at home to take on the Kansas City Royals in the start of a four-game series beginning on Thursday night. 


New York Yankees blow out the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-0.  James Paxton started for the Yankees and he pitched great.   Aaron Judge and Mike Tauchman each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Paxton pitched eight scoreless innings giving up two hits and a walk and he struck out 12.  Paxton won his second game of the season.  Joe Harvey pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Chris Sale took his fourth loss of the season and he pitched five innings giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Erasmo Ramirez pitched three innings giving up four hits and four runs with a walk and a strikeout.   

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and an RBI, Judge had two hits and drew a walk and Luke Voit had a hit and an RBI.  Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI, Clint Frazier had a hit and an RBI and Gio Urshela had a hit.  Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk,Austin Romine had a hit and Tauchman had two hits and four RBI.  Tauchman, Urshela and Gardner each hit a double and Tauchman Frazier and Torres each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Judge had a stolen base.

In the third LeMahieu hit an RBI single and Voit hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Yankees.  In the fourth Frazier hit a solo homerun to push the Yankees lead to 3-0.  Tauchman hit an RBI double and it was 4-0 Yankees.  In the sixth Tauchman hit a three-run homerun to extend the lead to 7-0.  In the seventh Torres hit a solo homerun to make it a 8-0 game and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of two on Wednesday night.

New York Mets lose in Atlanta and split four-game series


The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday night.  The game took place at Sun Trust Park in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 7-3.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch that well.  Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil each had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched five innings giving up five hits and three runs with four walks and nine strikeouts.  deGrom took his second loss of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts, Paul Sewald pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk. 

Julio Teheran pitched six innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and six strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season.  Jesse Biddle pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Jonny Venters pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout and Luke Jackson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one.  A.J. Minter pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Nimmo had two hits, Pete Alonso had a hit and Robinson Cano had a hit.  Michael Conforto had a hit, Wilson Ramos had a hit and McNeil had two hits and drew a walk.  Amed Rosario had a hit and an RBI, J.D. Davis had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Keon Broxton had a hit and an RBI.  Conforto and McNeil each hit a double.  Davis hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Ramos committed an error. 

Ozzie Albies had two hits, Josh Donaldson had two hits, two RBI and drew two walks and Freddie Freeman drew two walks.  Ronald Acuna Jr. had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Nick Markakis had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Johan Camargo had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Ender Inciarte had a hit, Tyler Flowers had a hit and Charlie Culberson had a hit and had two RBI.  Camargo hit a double and Albies hit a triple and Donaldson, Culberson and Markakis each hit a homerun.  The Braves were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Albies, Acuna Jr. and Inciarte each had a stolen base. 

In the second Davis hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Markakis hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the third Acuna hit an RBI single to give the Braves a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Donaldson hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-1.  In the sixth Culberson hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 5-1.  In the seventh Camargo hit an RBI double to make it a 6-1 lead.  In the eighth Rosario hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-2 and Broxton hit an RBI single to make it a 6-3 game.  In the eighth Donaldson hit an RBI single to make it a 7-3 game and that would be the final score. 

The two teams split the four-game series and the Mets will head to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies Monday night.

New York Yankees can't win their first home series as they lose to the Chicago White Sox


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  The Yankees bullpen pitched well and the offense only managed four hits. 

Tanaka pitched four innings giving up seven hits and five runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season.  Luis Cessa pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out one, Tommy Khanle pitched to two batters and got them both out, one on a strikeout.  Adam Ottavino pitched an inning with two walks and two strikeouts, Joe Harvey pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Chad Green pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Carlos Rodon pitched six innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Rodon won his second game of the season.  Jace Fry pitched to one batter and struck him out, Nate Jones pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Kelvin Herrera pitched an inning with a strikeout.  Alex Colome pitched an inning to earn his third save of the season. 

Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Gleyber Torres had a hit and Luke Voit had a hit and an RBI.  Gio Urshela had a hit, Mike Tauchman drew a walk and Voit hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Judge had an outfield assist. 

Leury Garcia had a hit, Yoan Moncada had three hits and drew a walk and Jose Abreu had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Yonder Alonso drew two walks, Eloy Jimenez drew two walks and Tim Anderson had a hit and four RBI.  James McCann had a hit, Yolmer Sanchez had two hits and Moncada, Sanchez and Abreu each hit a double.  Anderson hit a homerun and the White Sox were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Moncada, Garcia and McCann each had a stolen base and Abreu had two stolen bases.  Sanchez and Moncada were each caught stealing.  Anderson committed an error. 

In the first Voit hit an RBI double giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Judge hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the fourth Anderson hit a grand-slam for the White Sox giving them a 4-2 lead.  In the fifth Abreu hit a sac fly to extend their lead to 5-2 and that would be the final score of the game. 

The Yankees lost two out of three and for the first time since the early 80s lost their first three series at home. 

The Yankees will be off on Monday and then begin a brief two-game series with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.
