New York Yankees rally for win in Baltimore


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-7.  J.A. Happ started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch very well.  The Yankees bullpen did a good job and Gary Sanchez led the offense with two hits and four RBI. 

Happ pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and six runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Luis Cessa pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and a strikeout, Jonathan Holder pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Zack Britton won his second game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a walk.  Aroldis Chapman saved his 12th game of the season pitching an inning with a walk and he struck out three. 

Andrew Cashner pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Branden Kline pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with one being earned.  He walked one and Shawn Armstrong pitched 1 1/3 perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.  Mychal Givens pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up four hits and five runs with a walk. 

DJ LeMahieu had two hits and an RBI, Aaron Hicks had an RBI and drew a walk and Luke Voit had two hits and drew a walk.  Sanchez had two hits and four RBI, Kendrys Morales had an RBI and Gleyber Torres had two hits and two RBI.  Gio Urshela had a hit, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Cameron Maybin had a hit and drew a walk.  Voit hit a double and Sanchez hit a homerun.  Torres hit two homeruns and the Yankees were 3-13 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Urshela and Voit each committed an error. 

Hanser Alberto had four hits and two RBI, Dwight Smith Jr. had three hits and an RBI and Trey Mancini had a hit and two RBI.  Renato Nunez had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks, Pedro Severino had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Stevie Wilkerson drew a walk.  Joey Rickard drew a walk, Rio Ruiz had a hit and Richie Martin had a hit.  Alberto, Ruiz, Mancini, Nunez and Martin each hit a double.  Smith Jr. hit a triple and Alberto and Nunez each hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 4-15 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Alberto had a stolen base and Smith Jr. committed an error. 

In the first Mancini hit an RBI double, Severino hit an RBI single and the Orioles had a 2-0 lead.  In the second Torres hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the third Alberto hit a solo homerun and Nunez hit a solo homerun going back-to-back to push the Orioles lead to 4-1.  In the bottom of the fourth Alberto hit an RBI single and Smith Jr. hit an RBI single to make it a 6-1 game.  In the sixth Sanchez hit an RBI single, Morales hit an RBI ground out and the lead was cut to 6-3.  In the bottom of the sixth Mancini hit a sac fly to push it to 7-3.  In the seventh LeMahieu hit an RBI single and Hicks had a fly out but a run scored on a throwing error to cut the lead to 7-5.  In the eighth Torres hit his second homerun of the game to make it a 7-6 game and in the ninth Hicks hit a sac fly to tie the game and Sanchez hit a three-run homerun to give the Yankees a 10-7 lead which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of four on Tuesday night.

New York Mets are shutout once again in Miami


The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 3-0.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and he pitched well.  J.D. Davis had two hits and that was all the offense produced. 

Syndergaard pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  He lost his fourth game of the season and Seth Lugo pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts. 

Sandy Alcantara pitched a complete game.  He gave up two hits and no runs with a walk and eight strikeouts and earned his second win of the season. 

Davis had two hits, Pete Alonso drew a walk and that was it for the Mets offense.  They were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left one man on base. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI, Neil Walker had two hits and Miguel Rojas had an RBI and drew a walk.  Chad Wallach had a hit, Rosell Herrera had a hit and Alcantara had a hit.  Herrera and Walker each hit a double and Granderson hit a homerun.  The Marlins were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Alcantara committed an error. 

In the sixth Granderson hit into a double play but a run scored to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Rojas hit a sac fly to push the Marlins lead to 2-0 and in the eighth Granderson hit a solo homerun to make it 3-0 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets were swept in the three game series and will now head home to take on the Washington Nationals on Monday night in the start of a four-game series.   

New York Yankees defeat the Tampa Bay Rays in rubber game to take over first place


The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 13-5.  Chad Green started as the opener for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch great, Nestor Cortes Jr. started out bad but kept the Yankees in the game and Chance Adams pitched well out of the pen.  Brett Gardner had three hits and three RBI and DJ LeMahieu, Gary Sanchez and Gleyber Torres each had two hits. 

Green pitched two innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Cortes Jr. pitched four innings giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts and Adam Ottavino won his second game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning with a walk and a strikeout.  Adams earned his first career save pitching three innings and giving up a hit and a walk with four strikeouts. 

Charlie Morton pitched four innings giving up four hits and five runs with three of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out six.  Diego Castillo lost his third game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and three runs with three walks, Ryne Stanek pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and Casey Sadler pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with three strikeouts. 

LeMahieu had two hits and an RBI, Aaron Hicks had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks and Luke Voit had an RBI and drew two walks.  Sanchez had two hits and drew a walk, Kendrys Morales had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Torres had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Gio Urshela drew a walk, Thairo Estrada had a hit and three RBI and Gardner had three hits and three RBI.  Clint Frazier drew a walk, Estrada and Gardner each hit a double.  Sanchez hit his first career triple and Hicks, LeMahieu and Gardner each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base. 

Austin Meadows drew two walks, Tommy Pham had a hit and drew a walk and Yandy Diaz had a hit.  Brandon Lowe had a hit and three RBI, Travis d’Arnaud drew a walk and Kevin Kiermaier had a hit and an RBI.  Willy Adames had two hits and an RBI, Daniel Robertson had a hit and drew a walk and Pham and Diaz each hit a double.  Adames, Lowe and Kiermaier each hit a homerun and the Rays were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Meadows was caught stealing and Diaz and Heredia each committed an error. 

In the first Morales hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  IN the second Kiermaier hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  Adames hit a solo homerun to give the Rays a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the second Gardner hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the third Lowe hit a three-run homerun giving the Rays back the lead at 5-3.  In the fourth Hicks hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at five.  In the sixth Voit drew an RBI walk, Morales drew an RBI walk and Torres hit an RBI single to make it 8-5.  Estrada hit a three-run double, Gardner hit an RBI double and it was 12-5 Yankees.  In the seventh LeMahieu hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 13-5 and that was the final score. 

The Yankees took two out of three in the series to move into first place in the AL East and they will head to Baltimore for a four-game series beginning on Monday night.   

New York Mets get shutout by the Miami Marlins


The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Saturday.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 2-0.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and he pitched ok but not deep into the game.  The Mets bullpen pitched well and the offense only produced one hit. 

Matz pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Matz lost his third game of the season.  Tyler Bashlor pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two, Robert Gsellman pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out one and Edwin Diaz pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Pablo Lopez pitched seven innings giving up a hit and he walked two and struck out seven.  Lopez won his third game of the season.   Tayron Guerrero pitched 1 1/3 innings with a walk and two strikeouts and Adam Conley pitched 2/3 of an inning and saved his second game of the season. 

Jeff McNeil had a hit and drew a walk, Brandon Nimmo drew a walk and Todd Frazier drew a walk.  McNeil hit a double and the Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. 

Jon Berti had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Garrett Cooper drew a walk and Brian Anderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Jorge Alfaro had a hit and Miguel Rojas drew a walk.  Pablo Lopez had a hit, Berti hit a homerun and the Marlins were 2-3 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Alfaro had a stolen base. 

In the first Berti hit a solo homerun and in the third Anderson hit an RBI single to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead and that would be the final score. 

New York Mets are defeated by the Miami Marlins in a slug fest


The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Friday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 8-6.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch well.   Brandon Nimmo, Pete Alonso, Wilson Ramos, Todd Frazier and Juan Lagares each had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom lost his fifth game of the season.  He pitched five innings giving up nine hits and seven runs with six of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out three.  Paul Sewald pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Trevor Richards pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs.  He walked three and struck out three and lost his fifth game of the season.   Adam Conley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk, Nick Anderson pitched giving up three hits and three runs with a  walk and he didn’t record an out and Sergio Romo saved his seventh game of the season pitching two innings and giving up two hits and no runs with two strikeouts. 

Nimmo had two hits and an RBI, Amed Rosario drew a walk and Robinson Cano had a hit.  Alonso had two hits and two RBI, Ramos had two hits and drew a walk and Dom Smith drew a walk.  Frazier had two hits and drew a walk, Lagares had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and J.D. Davis had a hit and two RBI.  Ramos and Cano each hit a double and Frazier hit a triple.  Alonso hit two homeruns and Davis hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Frazier and deGrom each committed an error. 

Jon Berti had a hit, Garrett Cooper had two hits and two RBI and Brian Anderson had two hits and an RBI.  Starlin Castro had a hit and an RBI, Jorge Alfaro had two hits and three RBI and Harold Ramirez had a hit.  Miguel Rojas had a hit and an RBI, Castro hit a double and Anderson hit two doubles.  Alfaro hit a homerun and the Marlins were 5-11 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Rojas and Berti each had a stolen base. 

In the second Alonso hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Cooper hit a two-run single giving the Marlins a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Alfaro hit an RBI single, Rojas hit an RBI single and it was 4-1 Marlins.  In the fifth Anderson hit an RBI double and Alfaro hit a two-run homerun to push their lead to 7-1.  In the seventh Davis hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 7-3.  In the bottom of the seventh Castro hit a sac fly making it a 8-3 game.  In the eighth Alonso hit a solo homerun and Lagares hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 8-5.  Nimmo hit a sac fly and it was 8-6 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday.

New York Yankees lose a close extra inning game to the Tampa Bay Rays


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Aaron Hicks and Gio Urshela each had two hits to lead the Yankees offense. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up three hits and no runs with no walks and six strikeouts.  Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Zack Britton pitched an inning with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning with two strikeouts.  Jonathan Holder pitched an inning with a strikeout and Luis Cessa pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and he lost his first game of the season.   

Blake Snell pitched six innings giving up six hits and a run with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Chaz Roe pitched 2/3 of an inning with a walk, Adam Kolarek pitched to one batter and got him out and Emilio Pagan pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out five.  Hunter Wood pitched a perfect inning and Jose Alvarado pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and earned his fifth save of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Luke Voit had a hit and drew a walk and Hicks had two hits.  Gleyber Torres had a hit, Urshela had two hits and Cameron Maybin drew a walk.  Brett Gardner had a hit and the Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Urshela committed an error. 

Austin Meadows had a hit and an RBI, Tommy Pham had a hit and Ji-Man Choi had two hits.  Brandon Lowe had a hit and an RBI, Kevin Kiermaier had a hit and Choi hit a double.  Meadows and Lowe each hit a homerun and the Rays were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Snell committed an error and Meadows had an outfield assist. 

In the third a wild pitch gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Lowe hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the 11th Meadows hit a solo homerun to give the Rays a 2-1 lead and that would be the final score of the game. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Sunday afternoon. 

New York Yankees walk-off against the Tampa Bay Rays


The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen was mainly good.  Luke Voit and Gio Urshela led the offense with three hits each. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up six hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out four.  Adam Ottavino pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one, Tommy Khanle pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Chad Green pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with one being earned.  Jonathan Holder won his third game of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Ryne Stanek was the opener for this game and he pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts.  Yonny Chirinos pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up four hits and he struck out two, Adam Kolarek pitched to one batter and got him out and Diego Castillo pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Jose Alvarado pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout. 

Voit had three hits and an RBI, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Kendrys Morales had a hit and an RBI.  Gl;eyber Torres had a hit, Clint Frazier drew a walk and Urshela had three hits and an RBI.  Torres and Voit each hit a double and Morales and Voit each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Maybin had a stolen base and Torres committed an error.

In the second Morales hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Adames hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the eighth Lowe hit an RBI double and Kiermaier hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 3-1 lead.  In the bottom of the ninth Voit hit a solo homerun, a wild pitch and Urshela hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 4-3 walk-off win.

New York Mets lose a close hard fought battle to get swept in Washington


The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Thursday.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 7-6.  Zack Wheeler started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch very well.  Robinson Cano had three hits and Michael Conforto had three RBI to lead the Mets offense. 

Wheeler lost his third game of the season pitching six innings and giving up 11 hits and six runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Daniel Zamora pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a run and a walk with a strikeout, Robert Gsellman pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked two and Tyler Bashlor pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Anibal Sanchez pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.  Erick Fedde pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with two strikeouts, Dan Jennings pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and he won his first game of the season and Justin Miller pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Kyle Barraclough pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Wander Suero pitched an inning giving up a hit and Sean Doolittle picked up his seventh save of the season pitching an inning and giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Jeff McNeil had a hit, Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI and Cano had three hits and an RBI.  Conforto had a hit and three RBI, J.D. Adam Eaton had a hit, Victor Robles had a hit and Anthony Rendon had a hit and an RBI.  Juan Soto drew a walk, Howie Kendrick had a hit and Gerardo Parra had three hits, three RBI and drew a walk.  Kurt Suzuki had three hits and two RBI, Wilmer Difo drew two walks and Adrian Sanchez had a hit.  Michael A. Taylor had a hit and Brian Dozier drew a walk.  Kendrick, Suzuki and Parra each hit a double.  Parra hit a homerun and the Nationals were 5-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Parra had a stolen base. 

 In the first Rendon hit an RBI single, Kendrick hit into a double play but a run scored an Parra hit an RBI double to give the Nationals a 3-0 lead.  Suzuki hit an RBi double and the lead was pushed to 4-0.  In the third Cano hit an RBI double and Conforto hit a three-run homerun to tie the game at four.  In the fifth Parra hit a two-run homerun to give the Nationals a 6-4 lead.  In the seventh Suzuki hit an RBI single to make it a 7-4 game.  In the ninth Ramos hit an RBI single and Lagares hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 7-6 but that would be the final score of the game. 

The Mets were swept in the three-game series and will head to Miami to take on the Marlins in a three-game set beginning on Friday night.
