The New York Yankees rally and beat the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 6-3.  Chris Capuano started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was very good.  Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and two RBI and Martin Prado had two hits. 

Capuano pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out four and won his second game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out one, Josh Outman faced one batter and gave up a hit and David Robertson pitched 1 1/3 innings to pick up his 35th save of the season.  He had a strikeout and no walks. 

Mark Buehrle lost his ninth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up seven hits and four runs.  He walked one and struck out four.  Aaron Loup pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with two walks and two strikeouts, Brett Cecil pitched to one batter and retired him and Josh McGowan pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Ellsbury had two hits and two RBI, Derek Jeter had a hit and Prado had two hits.  Brian McCann had a hit, Carlos Beltran drew two walks and Brett Gardner had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Stephen Drew had a hit and Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI.  Drew, McCann and Gardner each hit a double and Ellsbury hit a triple and a homerun.  Headley also added a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Jeter and Gardner each committed an error. 

Melky Cabrera had an RBI, Jose Bautista had a hit and an RBI and Dioner Navarro had three hits.  Kawasaki had a hit, Colby Rasmus had two hits and drew a walk and Pillar had two hits and an RBI.  Navarro, Rasmus and Pillar each hit a double.  Bautista hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Tolleson and Navarro each commited an error. 

Bautista hit a solo homerun in the fourth to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Gardner hit a two run double, a throwing error allowed another run to score and Ellsbury hit a two run homerun.  The Yankees had a 5-1 lead.  Pillar hit an RBI double in the seventh and Cabrera hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 5-3 game.  The Yankees added another run on a Headley solo homerun in the ninth to make it 6-3.  6-3 was the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Yankees lose a tough one in Detroit



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan and the final score was 3-2.  Hiroki Kuroda started and pitched well and the offense didn't do that much against a rookie pitcher making his major league debut.  They had a lot of hard hit balls and near misses but they still didn't produce as much as they would of liked. 

Kuroda pitched seven innings giving up four hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out four.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning walking one and striking out two and Shawn Kelley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run.  He walked one and struck out two. 

Kyle Lobstein pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs with only one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out none.  Blaine Hardy pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with a strikeout, Joba Chamberlain pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out one and Phil Coke won his second game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and an RBI, Martin Prado had a hit and Mark Teixeira drew two walks.  Carlos Beltran had two hits, Brian McCann had an RBI and Zelous Wheeler had a hit.  Beltran hit a double and the Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Rajai Davis had two hits and an RBI, Ian Kinsler drew a walk and Victor Martinez had a hit.  J.D. Martinez drew a walk, Nick Castellanos had a hit and Don Kelly had a hit and drew a walk.  Alex Avila had a hit and two RBI, V. Martinez hit a double and  the Tigers were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Kinsler had a stolen base and Castellanos committed an error. 

In the second Avila hit a sacrifice fly giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  The Yankees tied the game in the third on an Ellsbury RBI single.  McCann hit an RBI groundout in the fourth to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  Davis hit an RBI single in the fifth to tie the game at two.  In the ninth Avila hit a walk-off RBI single and the Tigers won the game 3-2.  The Yankees lost two out of three in the series and will now head to Toronto for a three game series beginning on Friday night.

The New York Yankees win streak ends at five in Detroit



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan and the final score was 5-2.  Brandon McCarthy wasn't sharp and the Yankees offense was Jacoby Ellsbury who had three hits including two homeruns.

McCarthy pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and five runs.  He walked two and struck out five and lost his 13th game of the season.  Esmil Rogers pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out three. 

Rick Porcello won his 15th game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up two runs.  He gave up nine hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Joe Nathan earned his 28th save of the season pitching a 1-2-3 inning.  Nathan had one strikeout. 

Ellsbury had three hits and two RBI, Derek Jeter had two hits and Brian McCann had a hit.  Carlos Beltran had two hits, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Ellsbury hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  

Tori Hunter had two hits and an RBI, Miguel Cabrera had a hit and Victor Martinez had a hit.  J.D. Martinez had three hits and an RBI, Nick Castellanos had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Rajai Davis had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Hunter, Cabrera, J.D. Martinez and Davis each hit a double.  The Tigers were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the first Davis had an RBI walk to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  In the third J.D. Martinez hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.  Ellsbury hit a solo homerun in the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1 and that would be as close as the Yankees would get.  In the sixth Castellanos hit an RBI single to make it 3-1 and Avila grounded into a double play with another run scoring to make it 4-1.  The Tigers added a fifth run in the seventh on a Hunter RBI single.  Ellsbury hit another solo homerun in the eighth to make it 5-2.  The Yankees win streak comes to an end at five.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Wednesday night. 

The New York Mets defeat the Atlanta Braves


The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Dillon Gee started and pitched well and the bullpen was good.  Juan Lagares and Travis d'Arnaud each had two hits. 

Gee pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs.  He walked two and struck out one and earned his fifth win of the season.  Jeurys Familia pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and Jennry Mejia pitched an inning giving up a hit and had a strikeout.  Mejia picked up his 19th save of the season. 

Alex Wood lost his 10th game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up five hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out six.  Jordan Walden pitched a perfect inning.

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, d'Arnaud had two hits and Lagares had two hits and two RBI.  Ruben Tejada had a hit and an RBI, d'Arnaud hit a double and Lagares hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Emilio Bonifacio had a hit, Freddie Freeman had a hit and Justin Upton had three hits, an RBI and drew a a walk.  Chris Johnson drew a walk, Evan Gattis had a hit and Tommy La Stella had a hit and an RBI.  Andrelton Simmons had a hit, Freeman hit a double and Upton hit a double.  the Braves were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Bonifacio had a stolen base.

In the second Tejada hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth the Braves tied the game at one on a Upton RBI double.  The Mets took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a Lagares two run homerun.  The Braves cut the lead to one in the seventh on a La Stella RBI single but 3-2 would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two on Wednesday night. 

The New York Yankees keep rolling with a 8-1 win in Kansas City



The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals on Monday night.  The game took place at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri and the final score was 8-1.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and pitched great.  Jacoby Ellsbury led the offense with three hits and three RBI. 

Pineda pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and one run.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out five and he picked up his third win of the season.  David Huff pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out one. 

James Shields lost his seventh game of the season pitching 6 2/3 innings and giving up 10 hits and six runs.  He walked three and struck out three.  Francisly Bueno pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs and Bruce Chen pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout. 

Ellsbury had three hits and three RBI, Derek Jeter had a hit and two RBI and Brian McCann had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk, Stephen Drew had a hit and an RBI and Martin Prado had two hits and an RBI.  Chase Headley had a hit, Ichiro Suzuki had two hits and Zelous Wheeler had a hit and drew a walk.  Prado hit a double, Drew and Prado each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Beltran was caught stealing and Pineda had a pickoff. 

Jarrod Dyson had two hits, Alex Gordon had a hit and Billy Butler had a hit.  Salvador Perez had a hit, Lorenzo Cain had a hit and Mike Moustakas had a hit and an RBI.  Perez hit a double and Moustakas hit a homerun.  The Royals were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Dyson had a stolen base and was picked off.  Shields committed an error. 

In the third Jeter had an RBI groundout to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Moustakas hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the third to tie the game at one.  Drew hit a solo homerun in the fourth to give the Yankees back the lead at 2-1.  In the seventh the Yankees broke the game open beginning with a Prado solo homerun.  Ellsbury hit an RBI single to make it 4-1, Jeter hit an RBI single to make it 5-1 and McCann hit a sacrifice fly that was overturned on a replay challenge to make it 6-1.  Ellsbury hit a two run homerun in the ninth and it was 8-1 which was the final score.  The Yankees have won five in a row and this was a makeup game so they head to Detroit to begin a big three game series on Tuesday night.

The New York Mets lose second straight to the Los Angeles Dodgers



The New York Mets were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night.  The game took place at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles, California and the final score was 7-4.  Jacob deGrom started and wasn't that great, the bullpen was ok and Juan Lagares lead the offense with two hits and three RBI. 

deGrom pitched six innings giving up five runs on five hits.  He walked two and struck out seven.  Vic Black pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Josh Edgin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run with a strikeout and Jennry Mejia pitched a perfect inning. 

Zach Greinke won his 13th game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up nine hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out four, J.P. Howell pitched to one batter and retired him, Brian Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and Kenley Jansen pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two.  Jansen picked up his 37th save of the season. 

Daniel Murphy had two hits and drew a walk, Lucas Duda had two hits and an RBI and Travis d'Arnaud had a hit.  Lagares had two hits and three RBI, Matt den Dekker had a hit and Wilmer Flores had a hit.  deGrom had two hits, deGrom hit a double, den Dekker and Kirk Nieuwenhuis each hit a double.  Lagares and Duda each hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Young Jr. had a stolen base and Edgin committed an error. 

Dee Gordon had a hit, Carl Crawford drew two walks and Scott Van Slyke had a hit and an RBI.  Adrian Gonzalez had two hits and five RBI, Matt Kemp had a hit and Andre Ethier had a hit.  Erisbel Arruebarrena had an RBI, Miguel Rojas had a hit and Greinke had a hit.  Ethier hit a triple and Gonzalez hit a homerun, the Dodgers were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Crawford had a stolen base and Rojas committed an error. 

The Mets will try and avoid the sweep on Sunday afternoon. 

The New York Yankees hold off the Chicago White Sox for third straight win



The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-3.  Hiroki Kuroda started and pitched well.  The bullpen was pretty good and Martin Prado led the offense once again. 

Kuroda pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  He won his ninth game of the season.  Shawn Kelley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Dellin Betances faced one batter and retired him and Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning.  David Robertson saved his 34th game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a walk and striking out two. 

Scott Carroll pitched six innings giving up seven hits and five runs with four of them being earned.  He walked three and didn't strike out a batter and lost his eighth game of the season.  Matt Lindstrom pitched two perfect innings. 

Brian McCann had a hit, Mark Teixeira drew two walks and Carlos Beltran had two hits and an RBI and Prado had three hits and two RBI.  Stephen Drew had an RBI and drew a walk, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and McCann hit a double.  Prado hit two doubles, Beltran hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Alejandro De Aza had a hit and drew a walk, Carlos Sanchez had a hit and an RBI and Jose Abreu had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Conor Gillaspie had a hit, Alexei Ramirez had a hit and an RBI and Jordan Danks had a hit and drew a walk.  Paul Konerko drew a walk, Sanchez hit a double, Gillaspie, Ramirez and De Aza each hit a double and they were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Sanchez committed an error, Garcia had an outfield assist. 

In the second Ramirez hit an RBI double, in the bottom of the second Headley grounded into a double play and a run scored to tie the game at one.  Prado hit a two run double in the fourth to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead.  Abreu hit an RBI single in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-2.  Beltran hit a solo homerun and Drew hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it a 5-2 game.  Sanchez had an RBI groundout in the seventh to make it 5-3.  The Yankees have won the first two games of the series and will go for the sweep on Sunday afternoon.
