The New York Mets win streak hits seven in victory over the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Saturday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Jacob deGrom pitched very well and Travis d'Arnaud and Wilmer Flores each hit a homerun. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up six hits and no runs with no walks and eight strikeouts.  He also won his second game of the season. Sean Gilmartin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Buddy Carlyle pitched to two batters retiring them both, one on a strikeout and Carlos Torres pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and three runs with two strikeouts.  Alex Torres picked up his first save of the season pitching to one batter and striking him out. 

Mat Latos lost his third game of the season pitching five innings and giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Jose Urena pitched two innings giving up three hits and three runs and Brad Hand pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

d'Arnaud had a hit and an RBI, Lucas Duda had a hit and Michael Cuddyer had two hits.  Eric Campbell had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Juan Lagares had two hits and an RBI and Flores had two hits and two RBI.  Duda and Cuddyer each hit a double and d'Arnaud and Flores each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Campbell had a stolen base. 

Dee Gordon had five hits and three RBI, Christian Yelich had a hit and Michael Morse had a hit and an RBI.  Marcell Ozuna had two hits, Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits and Baker drew a walk.  Gordon hit a double and Morse hit a homerun.  The Marlins were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Gordon was caught stealing. 

Lagares hit an RBI single in the second and in the third d'Arnaud hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the sixth Campbell hit an RBI single and Flores hit a two run homerun to push the Mets lead to 5-0.  Gordon hit an RBI double in the eighth, Morse hit a solo homerun in the ninth and Gordon hit a two run single to make it a 5-4 game but that would be how it finished. 

The Mets will look to take the four game sweep on Sunday afternoon. 

The New York Yankees pick up victory and first series win of the year in Tampa Bay



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday night.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 9-0.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and dominated.  Brian McCann had three hits and Chris Young hit a grand slam to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up no runs and two hits.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out eight and also earned his second victory of the season.  David Carpenter pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Brandon Pinder pitched a scoreless inning  allowing a hit and two walks and striking out one. 

Jake Odorizzi pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and nine strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season.  C.J. Riefenhauser pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs, Grant Balfour pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with three walks and Jose Dominguez pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out two. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits, Brett Gardner had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez drew two walks.  Mark Teixeira had an RBI, McCann had three hits and two RBI and Young had a hit and four RBI.  Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk, Stephen Drew had a hit and drew a walk and Gregorio Petit had an RBI.  Drew hit a double, McCann hit a triple and Young hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Gardner had two stolen bases. 

David DeJesus had two hits, Tim Beckham drew a walk and Ryan Brett drew a walk.  Brandon Guyer hit a double and the Rays were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the sixth McCann hit a two run triple to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the seventh the Yankees scored seven runs to break the game open.  Petit hit a sacrifice fly, Teixeira hit a sacrifice fly and Young hit a grand slam to increase the Yankees lead to 9-0 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have won the first two games of the three game series.  The Yankees will look for the sweep on Sunday afternoon with Michael Pineda on the hill. 

The New York Yankees win a tight game in Tampa Bay behind Alex Rodriguez



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 5-4.  Adam Warren started and didn't pitch that well.  The bullpen was great and Rodriguez led the offense with a couple of homeruns and four RBI. 

Warren pitched four innings giving up six hits and four runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Esmil Rogers pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a walk and struck out two, Justin Wilson pitched to one batter and struck out one and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.  Betances won his second game of the season.  Andrew Miller picked up his third game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up a  hit and striking out three. 

Nathan Karns pitched five innings giving up two hits and two runs with four walks and seven strikeouts.  Ernesto Frieri pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout, C.J. Riefenhauser pitched an innin ggiving up a walk and Kevin Jepsen picked up his first loss of the season pitching an inning giving up two hits and a run.  Steve Geltz pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk and Mark Teixeira drew a walk.  Brian McCann drew a walk, Rodriguez had three hits and four RBI and Stephen Drew had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Chris Young drew a walk and Rodriguez and Drew each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base. 

Steven Souza Jr. had two hits, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and Evan Longoria had a hit and drew a walk.  Desmond Jennings drew a walk, Allan Dykstra had a hit and three RBI and Logan Forsythe had three hits and an RBI.  Bobby Wilson drew a walk, Dykstra hit a homerun and Forsythe hit a homerun and the Rays were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Souza Jr. had a stolen base. 

In the second Rodriguez hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead and in the fourth Drew made it 2-0 with a solo homerun.  In the bottom of the fourth the Rays scored all four of their runs.  Dykstra hit a three run homerun and then Forsythe hit a solo homerun as they went back-to-back.  The Rays had a 4-2 lead before Rodriguez hit his second homerun of the game in the sixth to tie the game at four.  In the eighth Rodriguez gave the Yankees a 5-4 lead with an RBI single and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday night.  Masahiro Tanaka will go up against Jake Odorizzi.   

The New York Mets keep rolling with victory over the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-1.  It was the sixth straight victory for the Mets.  Bartolo Colon started and pitched very well and Jerry Blevins and Jeurys Familia shut the door.  Michael Cuddyer led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Colon pitched seven innings giving up six hits and a run with five strikeouts.  Blevins pitched a perfect inning and Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two. 

David Phelps pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with three walks and two strikeouts.  Brad Hand pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout and he lost his first game of the season.  Sam Dyson pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Bryan Morris pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run. 

Juan Lagares had a hit, Lucas Duda had a hit and Cuddyer had two hits and an RBI.  Daniel Murphy had a hit and an RBI, Eric Campbell had an RBI and drew a walk, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Anthony Recker drew two walks.  Colon had an RBI, Daniel Muno had a hit and Cuddyer and Murphy each hit a double.  The Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Muno had a stolen base. 

Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and an RBI, Martin Prado had two hits and Michael Morse had a hit.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, J.T. Realmuto had a hit, Adeiny Hechavarria had a hit and Realmuto and hechavarria each hit a double and Stanton hit a homerun.  The Marlins were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the first Stanton hit a solo homerun to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Colon hit a sac fly to tie the game at one.  Cuddyer hit a sac fly in the sixth to give the Mets a 2-1 lead and Campbell hit a sac fly to make it a 3-1 game.  In the eighth Murphy hit an RBI double to push the lead to 4-1 and that was the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of their four game series on Saturday night.  Jacob deGrom will pitch against Mat Latos.   

The New York Mets win their fifth straight



The New  York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Thursday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-5.  Dillon Gee started and didn't pitch that well, the bullpen was pretty good.  Lucas Duda had three hits and Michael Cuddyer had a couple of hits and RBI. 

Gee pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Rafael Montero pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and a strikeout, Jerry Blevins pitched to two batters and retired them both picking up a win and Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two.  Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and picked up his fourth save of the season. 

Jarred Cosart pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  A.J. Ramos pitched to two batters and retired them both, Mike Dunn pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and took his first loss and Sam Dyson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up one hit and striking out one.   

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Duda had three hits and an RBI and Cuddyer had two hits and two RBI.  Daniel Murphy had a hit, Eric Campbell had a hit and an RBI and Juan Lagares had a hit and drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had a hit and three RBI, John Mayberry Jr. drew a walk and Duda hit two doubles.  Flores hit a homeruns and the Mets were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Mayberry had a stolen base and Murphy committed an error.

Stanton hit a two run homerun in the first to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Prado hit a solo homerun to push the Marlins lead to 3-0.  Flores hit a three run homerun in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at three.  Ozuna had an RBI walk in the sixth to give the Marlins a 4-3 lead and the Mets came right back in the bottom of the sixth.  Cuddyer hit an RBI single and Campbell hit a sac fly to give the Mets a 5-4 lead.  In the seventh the Marlins tied the game on a fielder's choice and an error.  Duda hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to give the Mets a 6-5 lead and Cuddyer hit an RBI single to increase the lead to 7-5 which was the final score. 

The Mets will continue their series on Friday night against the Marlins.  Bartolo Colon will start looking for his third win of the season.

The New York Mets take the Philadelphia Phillies as they are off to a hot start



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-1.  Jon Niese started for the Mets and pitched well.  Curtis Granderson, Lucas Duda, Juan Lagares and Travis d'Arnaud each had two hits. 

Niese pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and a run with two walks and four strikeouts.  Niese earned his first win of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched 2/3 of an inning and Alex Torres pitched two innings giving up two walks and a strikeout. 

Jerome Williams pitched five innings giving up ten hits and five runs with four of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out one and took his first loss of the season.  Justin De Fratus pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout and Dustin McGowan pitched two innings giving up a hit and walked two. 

Granderson had two hits, d'Arnaud had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Duda had two hits and two RBI.  Michael Cuddyer had a hit and drew a walk.  Daniel Murphy drew a walk, Eric Campbell had a hit and Lagares had two hits and an RBI.  Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew two walks, Niese had a hit and an RBI and Cuddyer and Duda each hit a double.  d'Arnaud and Duda each hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-13 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Tejada committed an error. 

Odubel Herrera had three hits, Cesar Hernandez had a hit and drew a walk and Chase Utley had an RBI.  Jeff Francoeur drew a walk, Darin Ruf drew a walk and Cody Asche had three hits and drew a walk.  Cameron Rupp had two hits, Asche hit a double and Herrera hit two doubles.  Herrera hit a triple and the Phillies were 2-16 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Asche committed an error. 

IN the first Utley had an RBI groundout to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  In the second Lagares hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  d'Arnaud hit a solo homerun in the third to give the Mets a 2-1 lead and in the fourth Niese hit an RBI single to make it a 3-1 game.  In the fifth Duda hit a solo homerun to increase the Mets lead to 4-1.  Campbell reached on a  fielder's choice and a run scored to make it 5-1.  Duda hit an RBI double in the sixth to push the lead to 6-1 and that was the final score. 

The Mets will begin a four game series with the Miami Marlins on Thursday night at Citi Field.   

New York Yankees drop game and series in Baltimore



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 7-5.  Nathan Eovaldi started and pitched ok, his command wasn't great.  The bullpen was terrible and Alex Rodriguez had two hits and Carlos Beltran had two RBI. 

Eovaldi pitched five innings giving up eight hits and two runs with three walks and nine strikeouts.  David Carpenter pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk, Justin Wilson didn't record an out and gave up two hits and two runs and Chris Martin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit.  Branden Pinder pitched an inning giving up a hit and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out two batters. 

Bud Norris pitched five innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Brad Brach pitched two innings giving up a walk and struck out two and also picked up his first win.  Tommy Hunter pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout and Zach Britton pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.  Britton saved his third game of the season. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk and Beltran had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, Brian McCann had an RBI and Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI.  Chris Young had a hit, Didi Gregorius had a hit and Ellsbury, Beltran, Teixeira and Young each hit a double.  Rodriguez hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Gregorius had a stolen base. 

Alejandro De Aza had two hits, Everth Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk and Adam Jones had a hit and drew a walk.  Travis Snider had a hit, Delmon Young had two hits and an RBI and Chris Davis had two hits and three RBI.  Manny Machado had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Caleb Joseph had three hits and an RBI and Jonathan Schoop had two hits an RBI and drew a walk.  Davis hit a double, De Aza hti a triple and Machado and Schoop hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. 

In the first Davis hit an RBI single to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  In the third Beltran hit a two run double to make it 2-1 Yankees.  In the fourth Rodriguez hit a solo homerun to increase the Yankees lead to 3-1.  Machado hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the bottom of the sixth Schoop hit a homerun to tie the game at three.  Young hit an RBI single, Davis hit a two run double and Joseph hit an RBI single to give the Orioles a 7-3 lead.  In the eighth McCann hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 7-4 and a wild pitch made it 7-5 which was the final score. 

The Yankees lose two out of three and will have an off day on Thursday.  They will begin a three game series on Friday night in Tampa Bay.  They have a 3-6 record as they have lost two out of three in each series.

The New York Yankees get a nice comeback win in Baltimore



The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 6-5.  Michael Pineda started and pitched pretty well, he made one bad pitch that cost him.  Andrew Miller picked up a five out save and Stephen Drew had a pinch hit grand slam. 

Pineda pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five runs on nine hits.   He walked none and struck out nine.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up two hits and two walks with a strikeout and Miller pitched 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.  Miller picked up his second save of the season. 

Wei-Yin Chen pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out four.  Tommy Hunter pitched an inning giving up three hits and four runs with a walk, Darren O'Day pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings striking out two and Brian Matusz pitched two two batters and struck out one. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits, Drew had a hit and four RBI and Mark Teixeira had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Chris Young had two hits and an RBI, John Ryan Murphy had a hit and drew a walk and Young, Teixeira and Drew each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Gardner had an outfield assist. 

Alejandro De Aza had two hits and an RBI, Steve Pearce drew a walk and Adam Jones had three hits and two RBI.  Travis Snider drew a walk, Manny Machado had two hits and an RBI and Jonathan Schoop had a hit and an RBI.  Everth Cabrera had a hit, Caleb Joseph had two hits and Machado, Schoop and De Aza each hit a double.  Jones hit a homerun and the Orioles were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  De Aza had a stolen base and was caught stealing.  Jones was caught stealing. 

In the second Young hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Machado hit an RBI double in the second to tie the game at one.  Schoop hit an RBI double to give the Orioles a 2-1 lead in the second.  In the fourth Teixeira hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  In the sixth Jones hit a two run homerun to give the Orioles a 4-2 lead.  Drew came up to pinch hit for Gardner in the seventh and hit a grand slam to give the Yankees a 6-4 lead.  In the seventh De Aza grounded into a force out and a run scored to make it 6-5 Yankees.  6-5 was the final score.  The Yankees have now won two in a row after losing three in a row.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Tuesday night.  CC Sabathia will go up against Miguel Gonzalez. 

The New York Mets win their home opener over the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 2-0 Mets.  It was their home opener and Jacob deGrom started and pitched well.  Michael Cuddyer led the offense with a couple of hits. 

deGrom pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out three and earned his first win of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched to two batters and retired them both, one on a strikeout, Jerry Blevins pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a walk and picking up his second save of the season. 

Aaron Harang pitched six innings giving up four hits and one run with two walks and a strikeout.  He lost his first game of the season.  Jeanmar Gomez pitched two innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with two walks and two strikeouts.

Odubel Herrera had a hit, Chase Utley drew a walk and Ryan Howard had a hit.  Carlos Ruiz drew a walk, Cody Asche had two hits, Freddy Galvis had three hits and the Phillies were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Ruiz and Utley each committed an error. 

In the fourth Lagares hit an RBI single and in the eighth d'Arnaud hit a sacrifice fly.  That was all the scoring in the game as the Mets won 2-0.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Tuesday night.  Matt Harvey will make his home debut of 2015.   

The New York Yankees bats wake up in rout of the Boston Red Sox



The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 14-4.  Masahiro Tanaka started and pitched pretty well, Alex Rodriguez had four RBI and Chase Headley, Stephen Drew and Brian McCann each hit a homerun. 

Tanaka pitched five innings giving up four hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out four.  David Carpenter pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and Kyle Davies pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three hits and striking out two.  Tanaka earned his first win of the season. 

Clay Buchholz lost his first game of the season.  He pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and ten runs with nine of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out three, Craig Breslow pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three walks and he struck out one, Tommy Layne pitched an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and Anthony Varvaro pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Edward Mujica pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run.

Mookie Betts had a hit, Brock Holt had a hit and David Ortiz drew a walk.  Hanley Ramirez had a hit and two RBI, Pablo Sandoval had two hits and Mike Napoli had a hit and drew two walks.  Xander Bogaerts had two hits and two RBI including a double.  Ramirez hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Napoli committed an error and Betts had an outfield assist. 

The Yankees jumped right out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning.  Beltran grounded out into a force out and a run scored.  Rodriguez hit a three run double and then Headley and drew hit back-to-back homeruns and it was 7-0 Yankees.  In the fourth Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly and Bogaerts hit a two run double to make it a 7-3 game.  In the fourth Gardner hit a two run single to make it a 9-3 game and then Teixeira hit a sac fly to make it 10-3.  Ramirez hit a solo homerun in the fifth to make it a 10-4 game.  In the sixth Rodriguez had an RBI walk, Headley hit an RBI single  and Drew hit a sacrifice fly  and it was a 13-4 game.  McCann hit a solo homerun in the eighth to make it 14-4 and that was the final score.  The Yankees lost two out of three in the series and are 2-4 on the season.  They will head to Baltimore to begin a three game series on Monday night.   

The New York Mets deal the Atlanta Braves their first loss of the season



The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 4-3.  Bartolo Colon started and pitched well, he also had an RBI.  David Wright had a couple of hits and Lucas Duda had three hits. 

Colon pitched seven innings giving up six hits and three runs.  He walked none and struck out five and earned his second win of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Jerry Blevins pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Jeurys Familia pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and picking up his first save of the season. 

Alex Wood pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs.  He walked three and struck out seven.  Cody Martin pitched to one batter and struck him out, Juan Jaime pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a run and three walks and he took his first loss of the season.  Andrew McKirahan 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit. 

Wright had two hits and drew a walk, Duda had three hits and Michael Cuddyer had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  John Mayberry Jr. had a hit, Curtis Granderson drew a walk and Anthony Recker drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had a hit, Ruben Tejada drew a walk and Colon had a hit and an RBI.  Daniel Murphy had an RBI, Flores hit a double and Cuddyer hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Granderson had a stolen base. 

Jace Peterson had a hit, A.J. Pierzynski had a hit and Jonny Gomes had a hit and an RBI.  Alberto Callaspo had two hits, Andrelton Simmons had two hits and two RBI and Simmons hit a double.  Simmons also hit a triple and Gomes hit a homerun.  The Braves were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Peterson had a stolen base. 

In the first Cuddyer hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the second Simmons hit a two run triple to tie the game at two.  In the fourth Colon hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 3-2 lead.  Gomes hit a solo homerun in the seventh to tie the game at three.  Murphy hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth to give the Mets a 4-3 lead and that was the final score.  The Mets will come home to New York to  have their home opener on Monday afternoon.  They will take on the Philadelphia Phillies.

The New York Mets lose a tight one in Atlanta



The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place in Atlanta and the final score was 5-3.  Dillon Gee started and did not pitch well.  Lucas Duda had two hits and the team only had three. 

Gee pitched five innings giving up eight hits and five runs with no walks and two strikeouts.  Gee lost his first game of the season.  Alex Torres pitched an inning giving up a hit, Sean Gilmartin pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts and Erik Goeddel pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Julio Teheran pitched six innings giving up two hits and three runs with one of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out five and won his second game of the season.  Brandon Cunniff pitched to two batters and retired them both, Luis Avilan pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and Jim Johnson pitched one innings giving up a hit and picking up his first save of the season. 

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Duda had two hits and Michael Cuddyer drew a walk.  Daniel Murphy drew a walk, Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI and Travis d'Arnaud had an RBI.  Wilmer Flores drew a walk, Duda hit a double and the Mets were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Eric Young Jr. had a hit and an RBI, Nick Markakis had two hits and an RBI and Freddie Freeman had a hit and an RBI.  Kelly Johnson had two hits, Alberto Callespo had a hit and Christian Bethancourt had a hit and an RBI.  Andrelton Simmons had a hit and an RBI, Callespo, Bethancourt and Simmons each hit a double.  Young Jr. hit a triple and Freeman hit a homerun.  The Braves 4-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Callespo committed an error. 

In the second Freeman hit a solo homerun to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth the Braves scored four runs to take a 5-0 lead.  Bethancourt hit an RBI double, Simmons hit an RBI double and Young Jr. hit an RBI triple.  Markakis hit an RBI single.  In the seventh the Mets got on the board.  Lagares reached on a fielding error and a run scored.  d'Arnaud was hit by a pitch to score a run and Flores grounded into a double play and a run scored.  The Mets cut the lead to 5-3 and that was the final score. 

The two teams will play the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.  The Mets will then come home to New York and have their home opener on Monday afternoon with Jacob deGrom on the mound. 

New York Yankees lose third in a row as their sloppy play continues



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-4.  Adam Warren started and pitched pretty well.  The bullpen didn't pitch great but they were tired from the marathon game and the defense didn't help at all with four unearned runs.  Chris Young hit a three run homerun to power the offense. 

Warren pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out one and took his first loss of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a run and a walk with a strikeout, Chris Martin pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Matt Tracy pitched two innings giving up two hits and three unearned runs.  He walked two and struck out one. 

Joe Kelly won his first game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up a hit and a run with two walks and eight strikeouts.  Alexi Ogando pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a strikeout, Anthony Varvaro pitched to one batter and struck him out and Robbie Ross Jr. pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Young had a hit and three RBI and Alex Rodriguez had a hit.  Garrett Jones had a hit and drew a walk, John Ryan Murphy drew a walk and Didi Gregorious had an RBI.  Gregorio Petit had a hit, Jones hit a double and Young hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Rodriguez, Murphy and Headley each committed an error and Murphy had a passed ball. 

Brock Holt had four hits and three RBI, Dustin Pedroia had a hit and two RBI and Mike Napoli drew a walk.  Pablo Sandoval had a hit, Allen Craig drew a walk and Daniel Nava had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Xander Bogaerts had a hit, Ryan Hanigan had an RBI and drew two walks and Nava, Pedroia and Holt each hit a double.  The Red Sox were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Bogaerts  and Napoli each had a stolen base. 

In the second Nava hit an RBI double to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  Gregorius hit a sacrifice fly in the second to tie the game at one.  In the fourth Nava hit an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh Hanigan reached on a fielder's choice with a run scoring and Pedroia hit a two run double to make it 5-1.  Holt hit a three run double in the eighth to make it 8-1 Red Sox.  Young hit a three run homerun in the eighth to cut the lead to 8-4 and that was the final score. 

The two teams will play the third and final game of their three game series on Sunday night.  Masahiro Tanaka will go up against Clay Bucholz.
