New York Yankees defeat the Baltimore Orioles behind strong pitching


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night.  The game took place at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Florida and the final score was 6-1.  Louis Cessa started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Gary Sanchez had a hit and two RBI and Greg Bird had a hit and an RBI. 

Cessa pitched four innings giving up a hit and he struck out four.  Stephen Tarpley pitched an inning with a strikeout, Albert Abreu pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and three walks with a strikeout and Phillip Diehl pitched 1 1/3 inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Joe Harvey pitched 1 1/3 inning giving up a hit and a run with four strikeouts. 

Tyler Wade had a hit, Gleyber Torres had a hit and Sanchez had a hit and two RBI.  Kyle Higashioka had a hit, Bird had a hit and an RBI and Gio Urshela had a hit.  Angel Aguilar had a hit and an RBI, Trey Amburgey had a hit and Isiah Gilliam drew a walk.  Billy Burns had a hit and an RBI, Burns, Urshela, Torres and Wade each hit a double.  Aguilar hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-15 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Burns had two stolen bases. 

In the first Sanchez hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Bird hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth Amburgey reached on a throwing error and a run scored to make it 3-0.  Burns hit an RBI double and Sanchez hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-0.  In the ninth Aguilar hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 6-0.  In the bottom of the ninth J.C. Escarra hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees are now 7-6 in the spring and will play a split squad on Sunday with a game at the Tigers and a game at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates. 

New York Yankees fall to Detroit Tigers

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.  The game took place at

George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 6-5.  Masahiro Tanaka

started for the Yankees and he pitched pretty well.  Kyle Holder had two hits and two RBI, Giancarlo

Stanton hit a mammoth homerun and Austin Romine had a couple of  hits and an RBI.

Tanaka pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.

Zach Britton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with

two strikeouts and Domingo German pitched three innings giving up five hits and three runs with two

of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out five.  Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving

up a hit and an unearned run with a strikeout.

Holder had two hits and two RBI, Aaron Judge drew a walk and Isiah Gilliam had two hits.  Stanton

had a hit and two RBI, Matt Lipka drew a walk and Luke Voit had a hit.  Gleyber Torres had a hit,

Thairo Estrada drew a walk and D.J. LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk.  Brett Gardner had a hit,

Romine had two hits and an RBI and LeMahieu, Romine and Gilliam each hit a double.  Stanton and

Holder each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight

men on base.  Romine was caught stealing, Lavarnway and Gilliam each committed an error.  Lipka

had an outfield assist and Tanaka had a pickoff.

In the first Stanton hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the second Gordon

Beckham hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the third Daz Cameron hit a solo homerun to

tie the game at two.  In the seventh John Hicks hit an RBI single to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh Romine hit an RBI double to tie the game at three.  Holder hit an

RBI single to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  In the eighth Dustin Peterson hit an RBI single to tie the

game at four.  Ronny Rodriguez hit an RBI single to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead.  In the ninth Daniel

Woodrow hit an RBI double to push the Tigers lead to 6-4.  In the bottom of the ninth Holder hit

a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-5 and that would be the final score.

The Yankees record is 6-6 on the spring and they will take on the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday

night in Sarasota, Florida.

The New York Mets fall to the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Florida and the final score was 6-4.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched ok and Peter Alonso had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched three innings giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts, Arquimedes Caminero pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and Eric Hanhold pitched an inning with a walk.  Ryan O’Rourke pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Paul Sewald pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Daniel Zamora pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with two walks.  Tim Peterson pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Brandon Nimmo had a hit, Keon Broxton drew three walks and Anthony Dirocie drew a walk.  Michael Conforto had a hit and an RBI, Wilson Ramos drew a walk and Tomas Nido had a hit and an RBI.  Alonso had two hits, J.D. Davis drew two walks, Tim Tebow had a hit and an RBI and Luis Guillorme had a hit.  Dilson Herrera had a hit and drew a walk.  Herrera and Alonso each hit a double and the Mets were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base. 

The Mets will take on the Florida Marlins on Friday afternoon at home in Port St. Lucie, Florida. 

New York Yankees shutout the Philadelphia Phillies


The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Spectrum Field in Clearwater, Florida and the final score was 6-0.  James Paxton started for the Yankees and pitched well and Miguel Andujar and Estevan Florial each had two hits to pace the offense. 

Paxton pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs with five strikeouts.  Adam Ottavino pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out three, Jonathan Holder pitched a perfect inning and Danny Farquhar pitched a perfect inning.  David Hale pitched two innings giving up a walk and striking out four. 

Andujar had two hits, Luke Voit drew two walks and Mike Ford had a hit and an RBI.  Greg Bird had a hit and drew a walk, Clint Frazier had an RBI and Florial had two hits and three RBI.  Thairo Estrada had a hit, Florial and Ford each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Florial had a stolen base and Farquhar committed an error. 

In the fourth a wild pitch allowed Andujar to score and give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Frazier hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead and Florial hit a three-run homerun to push the lead to 5-0.  In the eighth Ford hit a solo homerun to make it a 6-0 game and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees record improved to 6-5 for the spring and they will be home in Tampa to take on the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.
