New York Yankees slug the way to victory over the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-1.  Nestor Cortes started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The bullpen pitched very well and Gleyber Torres led the offense with a couple of hits and three walks. 

Cortes pitched five innings giving up seven hits and a run with no walks and three strikeouts.  Cortes won his first game of the season.  Ian Hamilton pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out two, Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and Clay Holmes pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Taijuan Walker started for the Phillies and he pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  Walker took his first loss of the season.  Yunior Marte pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and four runs with three walks and a strikeout, Andrew Vasquez pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two walks and Seranthony Dominguez pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu had two hits, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Anthony Rizzo had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Giancarlo Stanton had an RBI and drew a walk, Torres had two hits, two RBI and drew three walks.  Franchy Cordero had a hit and two RBI, Aaron Hicks drew a walk and Jose Trevino had two hits and an RBI.  Anthony Volpe drew two walks.  Cordero hit a double, LeMahieu hit a triple and Torres and Rizzo each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Torres had a stolen base and Cordero had an outfield assist. 

Trea Turner had two hits, JT Realmuto had a hit and Alec Bohm had three hits.  Darick Hall had a hit, Edmundo Sosa had a hit and an RBI and Bryson Stott had a hit.  Brandon Marsh had two hits, Bohm and Marsh each hit a double and the Phillies were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the bottom of the first Stanton hit an RBI groundout and Torres hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Torres hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 3-0.  In the top of the fourth Sosa hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the fifth Rizzo hit a two-run homerun extending the Yankees lead to 5-1.  Cordero hit a two-run double making it a 7-1 game.  Trevino hit an RBI single and it was 8-1 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play on Tuesday night in game two of the three-game series.

The New York Yankees power their way past the San Francisco Giants to take the series

 The New York Yankees defeated the San Francisco Giants on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place

at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-0.  Jhony Brito made his major

league debut and pitched a gem for the Yankees.  Aaron Judge, Giancalo Stanton and Kyle Higashioka

each hit a homerun to power the offense.  

Brito pitched five shutout innings giving up two hits and a walk and he struck out six batters.  Brito picked

up his first win of the season and career.  Jimmy Cordero pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and 

he struck out two, Ron Marinaccio pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with three strikeouts and Colten Brewer

pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out one.  

Ross Stripling started for the Giants and he pitched five innings giving up six hits and four runs with two

walks and three strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season, Sean Hjelle pitched two innings giving up

two runs and three walks with three strikeouts and Scott Alexander pitched an inning giving up a hit.  

Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk, Judge had a hit and an RBI and Anthony Rizzo had a hit, an 

RBI and drew a walk.  Stanton had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Josh Donaldson drew a walk and 

Oswaldo Cabrera had two hits.  Higashioka had a hit and an RBI, Anthony Volpe drew a walk.  

Judge, Stanton and Higashioka each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring

position and left six men on base.  Volpe and Torres each had a stolen base and Rizzo was caught 

stealing.  Rizzo committed an error.  

Michael Conforto drew a walk, J.D. Davis had a hit and drew a walk and Mike Yastrzemski had a hit.  

Thairo Estrada had a hit and the Giants were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.

In the bottom of the third Judge hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Stanton hit a two-run

homerun pushing the Yankees lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Higashioka hit a solo homerun 

extending the Yankees lead to 4-0.  In the bottom of the seventh Rizzo hit a sacrifice fly making it 5-0.  

a wild pitch pushed the lead to 6-0 and that would be the final score.  

The Yankees took two out of three in the series and will remain home to begin a three-game series 

with the defending National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.  

New York Yankees fail to deliver in the clutch as they fall to the San Francisco Giants

 The New York Yankees lost to the San Francisco Giants on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at 

Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-5.  Clarke Schmidt started for the 

Yankees and he didn't pitch well, the bullpen also had their struggles.  Aaron Judge led the offense with 

three hits.  

Schmidt started for the Yankees pitching 3 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk 

and five strikeouts.  Wandy Peralta pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Michael King

pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts and he took his first

loss of the season.  Albert Abreu pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out three, Clay 

Holmes pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs and Jimmy Cordero pitched to one 

batter and got him out.  

Alex Cobb started for the Giants and he pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with one

being earned, he walked one and struck out six.  Jakob Junis pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three 

hits and a run with two strikeouts and he won his first game of the season.  John Brebbia pitched 

a perfect inning, Taylor Rogers pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and Camilo Doval pitched 

an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks and a stirkeout, he earned his first save of the

season.

an RBI and drew two walks.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and an RBI, Josh Donaldson had a hit and an 

RBI and Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit.  Anthony Volpe had two hits, the first two of his major league 

career.  LeMahieu and Rizzo each hit a double and Stanton and Donaldson each hit a homerun.  

The Yankees were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Volpe had a stolen

base.  

LaMonte Wade Jr. had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Thairo Estrada had a hit and an RBI and Joc 

Pederson had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Mike Yastrzemski had two hits and an RBI, David 

Villar had two hits and Brandon Crawford had three hits and three RBI.  Blake Sabol had a hit, 

Yastrzemski hit two doubles and Crawford hit a double.  Pederson and Crawford each hit a homerun.

The Giants were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Wade Jr. had a 

stolen base and Crawford had a stolen base.  Cobb committed an error.  

In the bottom of the first Stanton reached on a fielder's choice error and a run scored giving the Yankees

a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Stanton hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  

In the top of the fourth Pederson hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 2-1.  Crawford hit a two-run

homerun giving the Giants a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Rizzo hit an RBI double to tie the game

at three.  In the sixth Wade Jr. hit an RBI single giving the Giants back the lead at 4-3.  Estrada hit 

an RBI single pushing the Giants lead to 5-3.  In the bottom of the eighth Donaldson hit a solo homerun

cutting the lead to 5-4.  In the top of the ninth Yastrzemski hit an RBI double and Crawford hit an 

RBI single extending the Giants lead to 7-4.  In the bottom of the ninth Judge hit an RBI single cutting

the lead to 7-5 but that was as close as the Yankees would come as Stanton grounded into a double

play with the bases loaded to end the game.  

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series, the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.
