The New York Yankees win a long extra inning game against the Cleveland Indians



The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 5-4 in 14 innings.  Brandon McCarthy started and pitched pretty well.  Mark Teixeira hit two homeruns and Jacoby Ellsbury hit the game winning homerun. 

McCarthy pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and four runs with only one being earned.  He walked one and struck out three.  Matt Thornton pitched to one batter and retired him, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one.  David Huff walked three without recording an out, Shawn Kelley pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings striking out two and Chase Whitley won his fourth game of the season pitching two innings giving up a hit and striking out three.  David Robertson picked up his 22nd save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Tomlin pitched seven innings giving up eight hits and four runs with five strikeouts.  Atchison pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout, Shaw pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Allen pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and walking one.  John Axford pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out two, Marc Rzepcsynski pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out two and Vinnie Pestano lost his first game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Ellsbury had three hits and an RBI, Derek Jeter had two hits and drew a walk and Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI.  Mark Teixeira had two hits and three RBI, Brian Roberts had a hit and drew a walk and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Zoilo Almonte had a hit, Zelous Wheeler had a hit and Brendan Ryan drew a walk.  Ellsbury hit a double, Teixeira hit two homeruns and Ellsbury hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Teixeira committed an error. 

Jeff Kipnis had two hits, Asdrubal Cabrera had three hits, Michael Brantley had a hit and drew a walk.  Carlos Santana had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Lonnie Chisenhall had an RBI and drew a walk and Nick Swisher had two hits and two RBI.  David Murphy had a hit, Chris Dickerson had two hits and Cabrera hit a double.  The Indians were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Kipnis had a stolen base. 

In the first Chisenhall had an RBI groundout and Swisher hit a two run single to give the Indians a 3-0 lead.  Teixeira hit a solo homerun in the fourth to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the fifth McCann hit a sacrifice fly and Teixeira hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  Santana hit an RBI single to tie the game at four in the fifth inning.  The score remained that way until the 14th inning when Ellsbury hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 5-4 lead.  5-4 would be the final score.  The Yankees have won two out of the first three games and the final game of the series will be on Thursday night.  the Yankees have won five of the first seven games on this 11 game road trip.   

The New York Mets win third straight over the Atlanta Braves



The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-1.  Dillon Gee started and pitched well and Daniel Murphy had two hits. 

Gee pitched seven innings giving up six hits and a run.  He walked one and struck out four and won his fourth game of the season.  Vic Black pitched an inning striking out one and Jennry Mejia pitched an inning giving up two hits and striking out two.  Mejia saved his ninth game of the season. 

Ervin Santana lost his sixth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up six hits and four runs.  He walked two men and struck out four.  Anthony Varvaro pitched a perfect inning. 

Granderson had a hit, Daniel Murphy had two hits and David Wright had a hit and drew a walk.  Lucas Duda had a hit and an RBI, Bobby Abreu drew a walk and Kirk Nieuwenhuis had an RBI.  Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and two RBI, Murphy hit a double and Wright hit a double.  d'Arnaud hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left one men on base.  Murphy was picked off, Wright committed an error and Nieuwenhuis had an outfield assist. 

B.J. Upton had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Justin Upton had two hits and Jayson Heyward had a hit.  Tommy La Stella had two hits, Gerald Laird had a hit and Santana had a hit.  B.J. Upton hit a double and the Braves were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  B.J. Upton was caught stealing.

In the first Duda hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth B.J. Upton hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  In the seventh Nieuwenhuis hit a sacrifice fly and d'Arnaud hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 4-1 lead and that would be the final score.  The Mets have taken the first three of the four game series and will go for the sweep on Thursday night.   

The New York Mets defeat the Atlanta Braves

 

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 8-3.  Jake deGrom started and pitched great and the Mets offense was great collecting 18 hits. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and no runs with 11 strikeouts.  deGrom picked up his second win of the season.  Buddy Carlyle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts, Dana Eveland pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and two runs and Jeurys Familia pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Julio Teheran lost his sixth game of the season pitching 3 1/3 innings giving up 11 hits and five runs.  He walked two and struck out two.  David Hale pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run and David Carpenter pitched two innings giving up five hits and two runs with a strikeout. 

Curtis Granderson had two hits and an RBI, Daniel Murphy had two hits and two RBI and David Wright had two hits and an RBI.  Lucas Duda had three hits, an RBI and drew two walks, Juan Lagares had two hits and an RBI and Travis d'Arnaud had two hits.  Ruben Tejada had two hits, deGrom had a hit and Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit and an RBI.  Eric Young Jr. had a hit and an RBI, Murphy and Duda each hit two doubles and Nieuwenhuis hit a double.  Granderson hit a homerun and the Mets were 6-15 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  d'Arnaud committed an error. 

B.J. Upton had three hits, Andrelton Simmons drew a walk and Freddie Freeman had two hits and two RBI.  Justin Upton had two hits, Jayson Heward had three hits and an RBI and Chris Johnson had a hit.  Tommy  La Stella had a hit, Christian Bethancourt had a hit and the Braves were 3-13 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  B.J. Upton had a stolen base and Heyward had two stolen bases.  Bethancourt had a passed ball. 

Granderson hit a solo homerun in the first inning to give them a 1-0 lead.   In the second Murphy hit a two run double and Wright hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 4-0 lead.  Young Jr. hit an RBI single in the third to make it 5-0.  Duda hit an RBI double in the sixth and Nieuwenhuis hit an RBI double in the seventh to make it 7-0.  In the eighth Simmons hit an RBI single to make it a 7-1 game.  Lagares hit an RBI single in the eighth to make it 8-1 and then the Braves scored a couple of runs in the ninth on a Freeman two run single.  The final score of the game was 8-3 Mets.  The two teams will play game three of the four game series on Wednesday night.  The Mets have taken the first two games of the series.

Masahiro Tanaka struggles as the New York Yankees lose



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 5-3.  Tanaka started and had the worst start of the season.  The Yankees offense only managed four hits. 

Tanaka pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up 10 hits and five runs.  He walked one and struck out five and suffered his fourth loss of the season.  Matt Thornton pitched to one batter and retired him and Shawn Kelley pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Trevor Bauer pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with two earned.  He walked two and struck out six and earned his third win of the season.  Bryan Shaw pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Cody Allen earned his 10th save of the season pitching a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had an RBI and drew a walk, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and Mark Teixeira had a hit and an RBI.  Brian McCann had a hit, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Kelly Johnson drew a walk.  The Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Ellsbury had two stolen bases and Teixeira had a stolen base.  Ellsbury was also caught stealing. 

Jeff Kipnis had two hits, Michael Brantley had three hits and three RBI and Carlos Santana had a hit.  Chisenhall had a hit and drew a walk, Nick Swisher had a hit and two RBI and David Murphy had a hit.  Chris Dickerson had a hit, Brantley hit two doubles and Swisher and Brantley each hit a homerun.  The Indians were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Kipnis had two stolen bases and Gomes, Chisenhall and Swisher each committed an error. 

In the first Teixeira hit an RBI single and scored another run on a throwing error by the catcher.  The Yankees had a 2-0 lead but the Indians came right back with a run in the bottom of the first.  Brantley hit an RBI double.  Gardner had an RBI groundout in the second to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead.   Brantley hit an RBI double in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the sixth Swisher hit a two run homerun to give the Indians a 4-3 lead.  The Indians would add another run in the seventh on a Brantley solo homerun to make it 5-3 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night.  They have split the first two games of the series. 

Shane Greene earns his first major league win as the New York Yankees defeat the Cleveland Indians



The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Monday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 5-3.  Greene made his major league debut and pitched well for the Yankees.  Brett Gardner, Brian McCann and Ichiro Suzuki each had three hits. 

Greene pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out two to earn his first win of the season.  David Huff pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Dellin Betances pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Justin Masterson lost his sixth game of the season pitching two innings and giving up six hits and five runs.  He walked three and struck out one.  Kyle Crockett pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Carlos Carrasco pitched three innings giving up three hits and striking out three and Marc Rzepczynski pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.  Vinnie Pestano pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and John Axford pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Gardner had three hits and an RBI, Derek Jeter had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Mark Teixeira drew a walk.  McCann had three hits, Brian Roberts had two hits and an RBI and Suzuki had three hits and an RBI.  Kelly Johnson drew a walk, Francisco Cervelli had an RBI and McCann and Roberts each hit a double.  The Yankees were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Gardner was caught stealing and Roberts committed an error. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and an RBI, Michael Brantley had two hits and Nick Swisher had a hit and an RBI.  Yan Gomes had a hit and an RBI, Chris Dickerson had a hit and Swisher and Gomes each hit a homerun.  The Indians were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Cabrera was caught stealing and Dickerson had an outfield assist. 

In the second inning Roberts hit an RBI double, Gardner hit an RBI single and Jeter had an RBI walk to make it 3-0 Yankees.  In the third Suzuki had an RBI single and Cervelli grounded into a forceout for another run to make it 5-0.  Swisher hit a solo homerun in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-1 and that was the Indians first hit.  Cabrera hit an RBI single in the sixth to get the Indians closer at 5-2.  Gomes hit a solo homerun in the eighth to make it 5-3 and that was the final run of the game. 

The Yankees have now won four of their first five games on this long 11 game road trip before the All Star Break.  The two teams will play game two of four on Tuesday night.

The New York Yankees hold on for the victory in Minnesota to take the series



The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the final score was 9-7.  Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and was ok, the bullpen struggled but was able to hang on.  Derek Jeter and Ichiro Suzuki each had three hits. 

Kuroda pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four runs on seven hits.  He walked two and struck out three to earn  his sixth victory of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a couple of strikeouts, Jim Miller pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and David Robertson saved his 21st game of the season.  Robertson pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts. 

Ricky Nolasco pitched two innings giving up six runs on seven hits.  He walked one and lost his seventh game of the season.  Anthony Swarzak pitched three innings giving up four hits and three runs with a strikeout, Caleb Thielbar pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk and Matt Guerrier pitched two innings giving up two hits.

Brett Gardner drew two walks, Jeter had three hits and two RBI and Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and four RBI.  Mark Teixeira had two hits and an RBI, Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI and Brian Roberts had a hit.  Suzuki had three hits, Kelly Johnson had two hits and McCann and Ellsbury each hit a double.  Ellsbury hit a homerun and the Yankees were 5-14 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Brian Dozier had a hit, Eduardo Nunez had two hits and Chris Parmelee had a hit and an RBI.  Josh Willingham drew two walks, Oswaldo Arcia had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Kurt Suzuki had a hit.  Trevor Plouffe had three hits and two RBI, Chris Colabello had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Sam Fuld had a hit.  Colabello, Suzuki and Plouffe each hit a double.  Colabello and Plouffe each hit a homerun and the Twins were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Arcia had an outfield assist. 

In the first Teixeira hit an RBI single and McCann hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the second they scored four runs to take a 6-0 lead.  Jeter hit a sacrifice fly and Ellsbury hit a three run homerun.  The Yankees extended their lead to 9-0 in the fourth.  Jeter hit an RBI single, Ellsbury hit an RBI groundout and Ellsbury scored on a balk.  The Twins got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on an Arcia RBI single.  Plouffe hit an RBI double and Colabello hit a two run homerun to make it a 9-4 game.  In the seventh Parmelee hit an RBI groundout to inch the Twins closer at 9-5.  Plouffe hit a solo homerun in the eighth to make it 9-6 and the Twins scored one more run in the ninth to make it 9-7 which was the final score.  Arcia hit an RBI single. 

The Yankees won three out of four in the series and head to Cleveland to begin another four game series on Monday night.

The New York Mets defeat the Texas Rangers



The New York Mets defeated the Texas Rangers on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-5.   Jon Niese didn't last long as he left with an injury, the bullpen was pretty good.  Eric Campbell led the offense with three hits. 

Niese pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run.  Carlos Torres pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and he struck out four.  Vic Black pitched an inning giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout, Jeurys Familia pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with two walks and a strikeout and Jennry Mejia won his fifth game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk. 

Yu Darvish pitched five innings giving up four runs and two walks with six strikeouts.  Neftali Feliz pitched two innings with two walks and two strikeouts, Aaron Poreda pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a run, a walk and a strikeout and he lost his first game of the season.  Jason Frasor pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Bobby Abreu had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks.  Campbell had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk. Chris Young drew a walk, Granderson, Campbell and d'Arnaud each hit a double and Duda hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Daniel Murphy committed an error and d'Arnaud had a passed ball.  Black had a pickoff. 

Shin-Soo Choo had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Elvis Andrus had three hits and Alex Rios had a hit and an RBI.  Adrian Beltre had two hits and an RBI, Chris Gimenez had an RBI and Leonys Martin drew a walk.  Rougned Odor had a hit and drew a walk, Adam Rosales had two hits and an RBI and Daniel Robertson had a hit.  Darvish had a hit, Carlos Pena drew a walk and Darvish hit a double.  Choo and Beltre each hit a homerun and the Rangers were 3-13 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Andrus had a stolen base and Odor was caught stealing. 

Choo hit a solo homerun in the first to give Texas a 1-0 lead.  Abreu hit an RBI single and Duda a two run homerun in the bottom of the first to give them a 3-1 lead.  Rios hit an RBI single in the third to make it a 3-2 game.  Campbell hit an RBI double in the fourth to give the Mets a 4-2 lead.  Beltre hit a solo homerun in the fifth to cut the lead to 4-3.  Gimenez hit an RBI groundout in the seventh to tie the game at four.  d'Arnaud hit an RBI double in the eighth to give the Mets a 6-4 lead.  Rosales hit an RBI single in the ninth to make it 6-5 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play game two on Saturday night. 

The New York Yankees lose a tough one in extras to the Minnesota Twins



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Minnesota Twins on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the final score was 2-1 in 11 innings.  David Phelps started and pitched great.  The Yankees offense didn't do much, Francisco Cervelli had two hits but was also the goat as his error lost the game in the 11th. 

Phelps pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks.  He struck out three batters.  Shawn Kelley pitched two innings giving up two hits and striking out four and Matt Thornton took his second loss of the season.  Thornton pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and an unearned run.  He walked one and struck out one. 

Yohan Pino pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks.  He struck out three batters.  Matt Guerrier pitched an inning giving up a hit, Casey Fien pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Glen Perkins pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Jared Burton pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Brian Duensing pitched an inning giving up a hit and picking up his second win of the season. 

Derek Jeter, Brian Roberts and Jacoby Ellsbury each had a hit.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Cervelli had two hits and an RBI, the Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Suzuki and Jeter each had a stolen base, Cervelli committed an error and Thornton had a pickoff. 

Brian Dozier had a hit, Kurt Suzuki had two hits and drew a walk and Chris Colabello had a hit.  Josh Willingham had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Trevor Plouffe drew a walk and Sam Fuld had two hits.  Colabello hit a double, Willingham hit a homerun and the Twins were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Fuld was picked off and Plouffe committed an error. 

In the fifth Cervelli hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  The Twins tied the game in the seventh on a Willingham solo homerun.  The Twins won the game 2-1 in the 11th on a Cervelli throwing error.  The Twins had bases loaded one out and grounded out to the pitcher who threw home for the force and then Cervelli threw it into right field.  He should of held on to it and tried to get the last out on the next batter.  The final game of the series is on Sunday afternoon and the Yankees will look to take the series three out of four.

The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.  The game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the final score was 6-5 Yankees.  Chase Whitley started and was bad, the pend was good.  Brian Roberts had four hits and Francisco Cervelli had three hits. 

Whitley pitched three innings giving up four runs and eight hits.  He walked one and struck out four.  David Huff won his third game of the season pitching three perfect innings with three strikeouts, Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up one hit and Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run.  David Robertson saved his 20th game of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and striking out the side. 

Kyle Gibson pitched two innings giving up six hits and six runs, five of them earned.  He walked one and struck out seven and lost his seventh game of the season.  Samuel Deduno pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up three hits and four strikeouts, Caleb Thielbar pitched to one batter and retired him and Casey Fien pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two.  Glen Perkins pitched a perfect inning.

In the first Roberts hit an RBI double, Teixeira hit an RBI double and Beltran hit a sacrifice fly to give the Yankees a quick 3-0 lead.  The Twins answered back with one in the bottom of the first.  Dozier hit a solo homerun, the Yankees scored three more in the second to take a 6-1 lead.  Ryan hit a sacrifice fly and Ellsbury hit a two run single.  Colabello hit a solo homerun in the second to make it a 6-2 game.  In the third Arcia hit an RBI triple and Plouffe hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-4 and then in the eighth the Twins scored one more run to make it a 6-5 game.  Colabello had an RBI groundout and 6-5 would be the final score.  The Yankees have taken the first two of the four game series and look for their third straight on Saturday afternoon.
