New York Mets blow lead and lose to the San Diego Padres


The New York Mets were defeated by the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-5.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Michael Conforto, Wilmer Flores and Neil Walker each had two hits to lead the offense.   

Gsellman pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Fernando Salas pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and a strikeout, Neil Ramirez pitched to one batter and gave up a hit and Josh Edgin pitched to one batter and retired him.  Josh Smoker took his second loss of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and a run and Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Jarred Cosart pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with four walks and a strikeout, Jose Torres pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Kevin Quackenbush pitched two innings giving up three walks and a strikeout.  Ryan Buchter pitched an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout and he won his third game of the season, Brandon Maurer pitched an inning with a strikeout and Brad Hand pitched an inning giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Hand also got his first save of the season. 

Conforto had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks, Jose Reyes drew two walks and Walker had two hits.  Lucas Duda drew three walks, Flores had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Curtis Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Juan Lagares had a hit, Flores and Lagares each hit a double and the Mets were 4-15 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base. 

Matt Szczur had a hit and drew two walks, Yangervis Solarte had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Wil Myers had two hits and two RBI.  Hunter Renfroe had a hit and an RBI, Allen Cordoba had two hits and Luis Torrens had two hits.  Chase d’Arnaud had a hit, Myers, Torrens and Solarte each hit a double and Renfroe hit a homerun.  The Padres were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  d’Arnaud had a stolen base and Myers was caught stealing.  Renfroe committed an error. 

In the third Solarte hit an RBI single to give the Padres a 1-0 lead.  In the third Flores hit a three-run double to give the Mets a 3-1 lead.  Granderson hit an RBI single and it was 4-1 Mets.  In the fourth Conforto hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-1.  Solarte hit a two-run double in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-3.  In the seventh Myers hit a two-run single to tie the game at five.  In the eighth Renfroe hit a solo homerun to give the Padres a 6-5 lead and that would be the final score. 

They will play the rubber game on Thursday night.

The New York Mets were defeated by the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 9-3.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched ok and the bullpen was mostly good.  Michael Conforto and Lucas Duda each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Harvey pitched five innings giving up three hits and two runs with four walks and six strikeouts.  Harvey won his third game of the season.  Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts, Paul Sewald pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Jerry Blevins pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Fernando Salas pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts. 

Jhoulys Chacin started for the Padres and pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up eight hits and seven runs.  He didn’t strike out or walk a batter and took his fourth loss of the season.  Craig Stammen pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts, Miguel Diaz pitched two perfect innings with a strikeout and Kirby Yates pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout.  Brad Hand pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Conforto had three hits and four RBI, Jose Reyes had a hit and Jay Bruce had a hit.  Juan Lagares had a hit, Neil Walker had two hits and Curtis Granderson had an RBI.  Wilmer Flores had two hits and an RBI, Duda had three hits and three RBI and Rene Rivera had a hit.  Duda hit a double, Conforto hit two homeruns and the Mets were 6-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Manuel Margot had a hit, Yangervis Solarte had two hits and drew a walk and Ryan Schimpf had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Hunter Renfroe had two hits, Cory Spangenberg had an RBI and Austin Hedges had an RBI and drew a walk.  Erick Aybar had a hit, Stammen drew a walk and Renfroe hit two doubles.  Schimpf hit a homerun and the Padres were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Renfroe had an outfield assist. 

In the first Conforto hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Granderson hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 2-0.  Flores hit an RBI single and Duda hit a two-run double to make it 5-0 Mets.  Conforto hit a two-run single and it was 7-0 Mets after one inning.  In the second Spangenberg hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 7-1.  Hedges had an RBI ground out to make it 7-2.  Conforto hit a solo homerun in the fourth and it was 8-2 Mets.  In the sixth Schimpf hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 8-3.  In the seventh Duda hit an RBI single to make it 9-3 and that was the final score of the game.

New York Yankees win behind a strong Luis Severino


The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-0.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he was great.  Didi Gregorius led the offense with two hits. 

Severino pitched eight shutout innings giving up four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.  Severino won his third game of the season and Dellin Betances saved his fourth game of the season pitching a perfect inning with three strikeouts. 

Jason Hammel pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Hammel lost his sixth game of the season.  Matt Strahm pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Peter Moylan pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Matt Holliday had a hit and an RBI.  Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Gregorius had two hits and an RBI.  Chris Carter drew a walk, Hicks and Gregorius each hit a double.  Gregorius hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Sanchez had a stolen base. 

Alcides Escobar had a hit, Eric Hosmer drew a walk and Brandon Moss had a hit.  Whit Merrifield had a hit, Alex Gordon had a hit and Moss hit a double.  The Royals were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Perez committed an error. 

In the third Gregorius hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Holliday hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 2-0 and in the seventh Gardner hit an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0 which would be the final score.

New York Yankees fall to the Royals as their bullpen falters


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he pitched very well.  The Yankees bullpen wasn’t very good and Matt Holliday had two hits to lead the offense. 

Montgomery pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run.  He walked none and struck out six.  Adam Warren pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs and he lost his first game of the season, Jonathan Holder pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a strikeout and Chasen Shreve pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk.  Bryan Mitchell pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Danny Duffy pitched seven innings giving up six hits and two runs with three walks and seven strikeouts.  Duffy won his fourth game of the season.  Joakim Soria pitched an inning giving up two hits and Mike Minor pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Aaron Hicks had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Holliday had two hits.  Starlin Castro had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Chase Headley had a hit.  Chris Carter had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Headley hit a double and Hicks and Carter each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.

Mike Moustakas had a hit and two RBI, Lorenzo Cain had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Salvador Perez had a hit.  Jorge Bonifacio had a hit and two RBI, Whit Merrifield had two hits and an RBI and Cain, Bonifacio, Merrifield and Moustakas each hit a homerun and the Royals were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. 

In the fourth Hicks hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Carter hit a solo homerun to push the Yankees lead to 2-0.  In the seventh Cain hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  Bonifacio hit a two-run homerun to give the Royals a 3-2 lead.  In the eighth Merrifield hit a solo homerun to extend the Royals lead to 4-2.  Moustakas hit a two-run homerun and it was 6-2 Royals which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night.  The series is split 1-1 right now.

The New York Mets fail to sweep the Anaheim Angels


The New York Mets were defeated by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 12-5.  Tommy Milone started for the Mets and he pitched poorly.  Curtis Granderson and Wilmer Flores each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Milone pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and eight runs with seven of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out three.  Milone lost his second game of the season, Rafael Montero pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with three walks and three strikeouts, Neil Ramirez pitched an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout and Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Paul Sewald pitched an inning with a walk. 

Jesse Chavez started for the Angels and pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  Chavez won his fourth game of the season.  Blake Parker pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out three, Deolis Guerra pitched an inning with a walk and Bud Norris pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Michael Conforto had a hit, Flores had two hits and Jay Bruce had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Granderson had two hits and an RBI, Lucas Duda drew a walk and Matt Reynolds had a hit and an RBI.  Conforto and Granderson each hit a double and Reynolds, Granderson and Bruce each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Flores committed an error and Conforto had an outfield assist. 

Cameron Maybin had two hits and drew a walk, Andrelton Simmons had two hits and three RBI and Mike Trout had two hits, three RBI and drew two walks.  Jefry Marte had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, C.J. Cron had a hit and four RBI and Ben Revere had a hit.  Kole Calhoun drew a walk, Danny Espinosa had a hit and drew two walks and Martin Maldonado had two hits.  Luis Valbuena drew two walks, Simmons, Trout and Maybing each hit a double and Cron, Trout, Marte and Simmons each hit a homerun.  The Angels were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Espinosa and Trout each had a stolen base and Espinosa was caught stealing. 

In the first Mate drew an RBI walk and Cron hit a grand slam to give the Angels a 5-0 lead.  In the second Trout hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 7-0.  Marte hit a solo homerun making it 8-0.  In the third Trout hit an RBI double extending the lead to 9-0.  Reynolds hit a solo homerun in the third to cut the lead to 9-1.  In the fifth Granderson hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 9-2.  In the sixth Bruce hit a three-run homerun and it was 9-5.  In the seventh Simmons hit a three-run homerun to make it 12-5 and that would be the final score. 
The Mets took two out of three in the series and will have the day off on Monday

The New York Mets defeated the Anaheim Angels on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-5.  Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched ok and the bullpen was mostly good.  Jose Reyes led the offense with three hits. 

Wheeler pitched five innings giving up four hits and two runs with five walks and five strikeouts.  He won his third game of the season.  Fernando Salas pitched a perfect inning, Robert Gsellman pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Neil Ramirez pitched giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and he didn’t record an out.  Addison Reed saved his sixth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he walked two and struck out one. 

Alex Meyer pitched four innings giving up three hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out seven and took his second loss of the season.  Jose Alvarez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Blake Parker pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Yusmeiro Petit pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and three runs with one of them being earned.  He also walked two and struck out three and David Hernandez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit.

In the bottom of the first Walker hit into a force out ground out which gave the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Bruce hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth Walker hit an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.  T. Rivera hit a sac fly and the lead was 4-0.  In the sixth Marte was hit by a pitch and a run scored to cut the lead to 4-1.  Revere hit into a force out scoring a run and making it a 4-2 game.  Flores hit an RBI double in the eighth to push the lead to 5-2 and Reyes hit a two-run single making it 7-2.  In the ninth Maybin drew an RBI walk to cut the lead to 7-3.  Calhoun hit an RBI single making it 7-4 and Trout hit a sac fly to make it 7-5 but that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of three on Sunday afternoon.  The Mets will be looking for a three game sweep.

New York Mets defeat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in a shutout


The New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-0.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched very well and the bullpen did their job.  Michael Conforto led the offense with two hits. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up four hits and no runs.  He walked three and struck out nine and won his third game of the season.  Jerry Blevins pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two, Paul Sewald pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Addison Reed saved his fifth game of the season pitching a perfect inning. 

Ricky Nolasco pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out four and took his third loss of the season.  Jose Alvarez pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Keynan Middleton pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Conforto had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Neil Walker had a hit and Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI.  T.J. Rivera had a hit, Lucas Duda drew two walks and Rene Rivera had a hit and an RBI.  Granderson hit a double and Conforto hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Cameron Maybin drew a walk, Kole Calhoun had a hit and Mike Trout had two hits and drew a walk.  Andrelton Simmons had two hits, C.J. Cron had a hit and drew a walk and Simmons hit a double and the Angels were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Maybin was caught stealing and Cron and Simmons each committed an error and Maldonado had two passed balls. 

In the first Granderson hit an RBI double to make it 1-0 Mets.  In the sixth R. Rivera hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0 and in the seventh Conforto hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 3-0 which was the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon. 

New York Yankees drop second straight in Tampa Bay


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon/evening.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 9-5.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he was bad.  The Yankees bullpen was pretty good for the most part and the offense was led by Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge who each had two hits including a homerun from each of them. 

Tanaka pitched three innings giving up nine hits and six runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  He lost his third game of the season as he continues to struggle.  Tommy Layne pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and three runs with a walk, Giovanny Gallegos pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two walks with a strikeout and Chasen Shreve pitched 1 1/3 innings with three strikeouts.  Jonathan Holder pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Matt Andriese pitched pitched five innings giving up six hits and five runs with no walks and five strikeouts.  Andriese won his fourth game of the season.  Chase Whitley pitched three innings giving up a hit and he struck out three and Jumbo Diaz pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Sanchez had two hits and an RBI, Starlin Castro had a hit and Judge had two hits and an RBI.  Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and three RBI and Aaron Hicks drew a walk.  Judge, Headley and Ellsbury each hit a double and Judge and Sanchez each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Sanchez had a pickoff. 

Corey Dickerson had two hits, four RBI and drew a walk, Kevin Kiermaier had two hits and an RBI and Evan Longoria had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Logan Morrison had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks, Steven Souza Jr. had a hit and drew a walk and Colby Rasmus had a hit.  Daniel Robertson had two hits and drew a walk and Jesus Sucre had a hit and an RBI.  Sucre and Robertson each hit a double and Dickerson hit two homeruns and Longoria hit a homerun.  The Rays were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Sucre was picked off. 

In the first Dickerson hit a solo homerun giving the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the second Judge hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the second Sucre hit an RBI double to give the lead back to the Rays at 2-1.  Longoria hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-1.  In the fourth Headley hit a two-run double tying the game at three.  In the fourth Dickerson hit a three-run homerun to give the Rays a 6-3 lead.  In the fifth Sanchez hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 6-4.  In the bottom of the fifth Kiermaier hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-4, Morrison hit a two-run single and it was 9-4 Rays.  In the sixth Headley hit an RBI ground out to make it 9-5 and that would be the final score.

New York Yankees lost a tough, close one to the Tampa Bay RaysNew


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 5-4.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched well but the bullpen didn’t.  Jacoby Ellsbury, Matt Holliday and Starlin Castro each had two hits to pace the offense. 

Severino pitched five innings giving up five hits and a run.  He walked three and struck out seven.  Jonathan Holder pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two, Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a strikeout and Chasen Shreve pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit.  Tyler Clippard lost his second game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a run with two walks and three strikeouts. 

Erasmo Ramirez started for the Rays and he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Diego Moreno pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with a strikeout, Jose Alvarado pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a run and a walk and Ryne Stanek pitched giving up two hits and a run without recording an out.  Danny Farquhar pitched to two batters and retired them both and earned his second win of the season and Alex Colome pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and earned his 11th save of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew two walks, Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI and Holliday and two hits and two RBI.  Castro had two hits and an RBI, Aaron Judge had a hit and Holliday and Ellsbury each hit a double and Holliday hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.

In the first Castro hit an RBI ground out to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Morrison hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  In the third Ellsbury hit an RBI double giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh Morrison hit a sac fly to tie the game at two.  Weeks Jr. hit a two-run double to give the Rays a 4-2 lead.  In the eighth Holliday hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at four.  In the bottom of the eighth Longoria hit an RBI single giving the Rays a 5-4 lead and that is how the game would end. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.
