New York Yankees defeat the Baltimore Orioles in a wild comeback victory


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and was a wild and crazy game.  The Yankees came back from down 9-1 and 11-4 to win on a walk-off in extra innings.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched bad and Bryan Mitchell was bad out of the pen also.  Matt Holliday had three hits and three RBI, Jacoby Ellsbury had five RBI, Starlin Castro had three hits to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and seven runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Mitchell pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout, Jonathan Holder pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with a strikeout and Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning.  Aroldis Chapman picked up his first win of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Kevin Gausman pitched six innings giving up eight hits and five runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Vidal Nuno pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk, Mychal Givens pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Darren O’Day pitched an inning with a strikeout.  Brad Brach pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two walks and a strikeout and Jayson Aquino pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and a strikeout.  He took his first loss of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Kyle Higashioka drew a walk and Chase Headley had a hit and drew two walks.  Holliday had three hits and three RBI and drew a walk, Ellsbury had a hit and five RBI and Castro had three hits and two RBI.  Didi Gregorius in his return from the DL had two hits and an RBI.  Aaron Judge had two hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Greg Bird drew a walk and Austin Romine had a hit.  Aaron Hicks drew a walk, Gregorius, Holliday and Headley each hit a double.  Judge hit two homeruns, Ellsbury, Castro and Holliday each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Joey Rickard had two hits and drew a walk, Adam Jones had two hits and drew a walk and Manny Machado had three hits and three RBI and drew a walk.  Mark Trumbo had three hits and four RBI, Wilken Castillo had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Trey Mancini had a hit.  Jonathan Schoop had a hit and two RBI, J.J. Hardy had two hits and Machado, Mancini each hit a double and Castillo, Machado and Trumbo each hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the third Machado hit a two-run double to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Castillo hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 4-0.  In the fifth Machado hit a blast over the CF restaurant to make it a 5-0 game.   Judge hit a homerun in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-1 and in the sixth Trumbo hit a grand slam to make it a 9-1 game.  In the bottom of the sixth Gregorius hit an RBI ground out to make it 9-2 and Judge hit his second homerun a two-run shot to cut the lead to 9-4.  In the seventh Schoop hit a two-run single to increase the lead to 11-4.  Ellsbury hit a grand-slam in the seventh to cut the lead to 11-8.  In the ninth Ellsbury hit into a force out and a run scored cutting the lead to 11-9 and Castro hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at 11.  In the tenth Holliday hit a walk-off three-run homerun to give the Yankees the 14-11 victory.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.  Michael Pineda starts for the Yankees and Ubaldo Jiminez for the Orioles. 

New York Yankees sweep the Boston Red Sox behind a dominant Masahiro Tanaka


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 3-0.  Masahiro Tanaka was brilliant for the Yankees and Aaron Hicks, Matt Holliday, Starlin Castro and Ronald Torreyes each had two hits to lead the offensive attack. 

Tanaka pitched a complete game three hit shutout.  He walked none and struck out three.  Tanaka earned his third win of the season. 

Chris Sale started for the Red Sox and he wasn’t bad himself.  He pitched eight innings giving up eight hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out ten.  Sale took his second loss of the season.  Heath Hembree pitched an inning giving up a hit and no runs or walks. 

Hicks had two hits, Chase Headley had a hit and Holliday had two hits and two RBI.  Castro had two hits and an RBI, Torreyes had two hits and the Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Hanley Ramirez had two hits, Xander Bogaerts had a hit and the Red Sox were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Sandy Leon had a passed ball and Benintendi had an outfield assist. 

In the fourth Holliday hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the ninth Holliday hit an RBI single to make it a 2-0 game and Castro hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.  The final score was 3-0 and the Yankees earned the two-game sweep.  The first game was rained out and will be made up in July as part of a day night doubleheader.  The Yankees will return home for six games against the Orioles and Blue Jays beginning on Friday night.

Rick Porcello started for the Red Sox and he pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out nine and picked up his third loss of the season.  Robbie Ross Jr. pitched to one batter and walked him, Joe Kelly pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two and Robby Scott pitched an inning walking one and striking out one.

In the second Judge hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the sixth Bird hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the ninth Young hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 3-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the second and final game of the series on Thursday night.  Masahiro Tanaka goes up against Chris Sale in a matchup of aces.

New York Yankees ride the baby bombers to victory in Boston


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 3-1.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Aaron Judge led the offense with a two run homerun and Greg Bird had an RBI hit. 

Severino pitched seven shutout innings.  He gave up three hits and two walks and struck out six.  Severino won his second game of the season.  Delllin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman picked up his fifth save of the season but it wasn’t easy.  He pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and two strikeouts.

New York Mets are swept by the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Sunday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-3.  Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  Michael Conforto had three hits to lead the offense. 

Wheeler pitched seven innings giving up four hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  He lost his second game of the season.  Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Max Scherzer won his third game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up five hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out nine.  Oliver Perez gave up a hit to the only batter he faced and Koda Glover pitched an inning with a strikeout and picked up his second save of the season. 

Conforto had three hits and an RBI, Jay Bruce had a hit and Neil Walker had a hit two RBI and drew a walk.  Jose Reyes had a hit, Conforto and Walker each hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Adam Eaton drew a walk, Trea Turner had a hit and Bryce Harper had two hits.  Ryan Zimmerman had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and four RBI and Murphy and Zimmerman each hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 2-3 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. 

In the first Murphy hit a grand-slam to give the Nationals a 4-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Conforto hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the third Walker hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the eighth Zimmerman hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 6-3 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets got swept in the three game series and will open a three game series with the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees fall short in Pittsburgh


The New York Yankees lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the final score was 2-1.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he pitched well and Jacoby Ellsbury led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Montgomery lost his first game of the season pitching six innings and giving up seven hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Bryan Mitchell pitched two innings giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts. 

Ivan Nova pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Nova picked up his second win of the season.  Daniel Hudson pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Tony Watson pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.  Watson picked up his sixth save of the season. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Starlin Castro had a hit and Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI.  Aaron Judge had a hit, Matt Holliday drew a walk and Ronald Torreyes had a hit.  Montgomery drew a walk, Chris Carter had a hit and Ellsbury hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Jordy Mercer drew a walk, Josh Harrison had two hits and Andrew McCutchen had a hit and drew a walk.  Gregory Polanco had two hits and an RBI, David Freese had an RBI and Phil Gosselin had a hit.  John Jaso drew a walk, Chris Stewart had two hits and Josh Bell drew a walk.  Polanco hit a double, Stewart hit a triple and the Pirates were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Harrison committed an error. 

In the first Freese hit a sacrifice fly to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  In the third Polanco hit an RBI double to push the lead to 2-0.  In the seventh Ellsbury hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees had their chances in the last couple of innings but couldn’t get the job done.  They will now head to Boston to start a three game series on Tuesday night.

New York Mets lose to the Nationals as their offense goes silent


The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Saturday.  The game took place at Citi Field and the final score was 3-1.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  His control was off as he walked a ton of guys and gave up a bunch of hits.  The bullpen was good and the offense only managed two hits. 

deGrom pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs.  He walked six and struck out ten and took his first loss of the season.  Josh Edgin pitched to one batter and struck him out, Hansel Robles pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts and Jerry Blevins pitched a scoreless inning with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Gio Gonzalez won his second game of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings and giving up two hits and a run.  He walked three and struck out six.  Blake Treinen pitched to two batters and retired them both, Enny Romero pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts and Koda Glover pitched to one batter and retired him and earned his first save of the season. 

Juan Lagares had a hit, Michael Conforto drew a walk and Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and an RBI.  Jay Bruce drew a walk, Jose Reyes drew a walk and the Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Blevins committed an error and Granderson had an outfield assist. 

Adam Eaton had two hits and drew a walk, Trea Turner had two hits and an RBI and Bryce Harper drew three walks.  Ryan Zimmerman had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had two hits and Anthony Rendon drew two walks.  Matt Wieters had a hit and an RBI, Eaton and Turner each hit a double and the Nationals were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. 

In the fourth Wieters hit an RBI single to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Turner hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 2-0 and Zimmerman hit an RBI single to make it a 3-0 game.  In the sixth Cabrera hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1 and that would be the final score.

New York Yankees defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates with a late onslaught


The New York Yankees defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the final score was 11-5.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he pitched ok, the bullpen was pretty much outstanding.  Ronald Torreyes led the offense with four hits but Starlin Castro and Chris Carter each hit huge homeruns. 

Pineda pitched five innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Jonathan Holder pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout, Tyler Clippard pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Dellin Betances picked up his second win of the season pitching to two batters and retired them both.  Bryan Mitchell pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning with a walk and he struck out one. 

Jameson Taillon pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs.  He walked three and struck out four.  Juan Nicasio pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run, Wade LeBlanc pitched to one batter and retired him and Felipe Rivero took his first loss of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and four unearned runs with a strikeout.  Antonio Bastardo pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a strikeout.

Adam Frazier had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Josh Bell had a hit and drew a walk and Andrew McCutchen had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks.  David Freese had a hit and an RBI, Francisco Cervelli had a hit and Jordy Mercer had a hit and an RBI.  Taillon had a hit, Cervelli hit a double and McCutchen and Freese each hit a homerun.  The Pirates were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  McCutchen had a stolen base, Frazier and McCutchen each committed an error. 

McCutchen hit a solo homerun in the first to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Freese hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth McCutchen hit a sac fly and it was 3-0 Pirates.  Castro hit a three-run homerun in the sixth to tie the game at three.  Torreyes hit a two-run double and the Yankees had a 5-3 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Mercer hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-4.  Frazier hit an RBI single to tie the game at five.  In the eighth Carter hit a three-run homerun to give the Yankees an 8-5 lead, a wild pitch made it 9-5 and Headley hit an RBI double to make it a 10-5 game.  Judge hit a solo homerun in the ninth to make it an 11-5 game and that would be the final score.   

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Sunday afternoon.  The Yankees will have off on Monday and then head to Boston for a three game series beginning on Tuesday night.

Harvey pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs.  He walked two and struck out two.  Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one, Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning and Josh Smoker took his first loss of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout.  Jeurys Familia pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two walks and he struck out two. 

Tanner Roark pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  Oliver Perez pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out two, Joe Blanton pitched an inning with two walks and Enny Romero pitched a perfect inning and picked up his first win.  Shawn Kelley pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and earned his third save of the season. 

Conforto had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Juan Lagares drew a walk and Jay Bruce had a hit.  Granderson had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Rene Rivera drew a walk and T.J. Rivera had a hit.  Zach Wheeler had a hit, Asdrubal Cabrera drew a walk and Wheeler hit a double and Conforto and Granderson each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Wilmer Difo drew a walk, Bryce Harper had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Daniel Murphy drew a walk.  Anthony Rendon had a hit and drew two walks, Trea Turner had an RBI and drew a walk and Chris Heisey had a hit.  Jose Lobaton had a hit and an RBI, Harper hit a double and a homerun and Lobaton hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Difo was caught stealing and Lobaton committed an error.  Harper had an outfield assist. 

In the first Harper hit a two-run homerun to give the Nationals a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Conforto hit a solo shot to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the fourth Granderson hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the fifth Lobaton hit a solo homerun and the Nats had a 3-2 lead.  In the sixth Granderson hit a solo homerun and the game was tied at three.  In the 11th Turner drew an RBI walk and the Nationals took a 4-3 lead which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.
