Curtis Granderson was diagnosed with a grade 2 strain of his groin, he is being placed on the 15 day DL. Because Javier Vazquez was bad again and the Yankees had to use relievers early they need a fresh arm. Mark Melancon will be called up from AAA-Scranton Wilkes Barre.
The Yankees lost today, Vazzuez has half of the teams losses. It looks likely that the Yankees will skip his turn in the rotation this week but what about after that?? I guess if he keeps this up they could put him in the bullpen and have Sergio Mitre of Alfredo Aceves start.
Here are some of the News and Notes from yesterday. Jorge Posada will most likely not play tonight but should be able to go tomorrow. He is the emergency catcher right now, that is why the Yankees didn't call anyone else up. Cervelli has been playing great when he has started so they can afford to give Posada a extra day or two. Andy Pettitte who is off to a great start will pitch tonight. This weekend will be interesting with Ozzie Guillen in town and he has ripped Javier Vazquez also, seems to be the thing to do these days. Robinson Cano just never gets out as he hit 500 on the roadtrip and is hitting 407 overall. A-rod is stuck in a 0-19 slide and Curtis Granderson has been slumping badly also. If the Yankees can get their bats going and Vazquez to pitch decently watch out, they have a good record, one of their best in a long time at this point of the season.
New York Yankees News and Notes/Yankees vs Orioles Breaking News WorldNewsVine
The Yankees were able to win the series with this win and also conclude a winning roadtrip at 5-4. The Yankees come home after what seems forever. They have only played 6 games in their palace and are happy to be coming home. The Yankees will take on the White Sox and Orioles before heading to Boston. Andy Pettitte will make the start this evening. Robinson Cano is hitting over 400 and is clearly the hottest hitter on the planet. He now is also the best second baseman out there no question. The Yankees haven't even gotten their big bats going and Javier Vazquez has been horrible but they are 14-7. The Tampa Bay Rays are off to a unbelievable start though at 17-5.
A.J. shuts down Orioles and Cano plays long ball in Yanks win Breaking News WorldNewsVine
Jorge Posada was hit in the knee tonight but appears to be day to day. He said that it hurts and he doesn't think it will be a DL situation. He expects to be back in a couple of days but will see how he feels tomorrow. I would guess that Cervelli will catch the next 2 games and Ramiro Pena will be the emergency catcher unless the send someone down and bring up another catcher. I am sure there will be more information once Posada gets to the park tomorrow evening. The Yankees were able to get a win today and even the series and roadtrip. They will look for a series win and a winning roadtrip with a victory tomorrw. CC Sabathia has had great success against the Orioles in his career and so has A.J. Burnett who pitches tomorrow.
Tomorrow-Phil Hughes vs Kevin Millwood
Wednesday-CC Sabathia vs Jeremy Guthrie
Thursday-A.J. Burnett vs TBD
Phil Hughes is off to a good start, Millwood is a good pitcher. Sabathia vs Guthrie is a mismatch in favor of the Yankees and A.J. Burnett vs probably a rookie seems to be a mismatch. I would be suprised if the Yankees didn't at least win 2 out of 3 in this series.
The New York Yankees had a off day today but they did visit the White House. They also visited Walter Reed Medical Center before attending the ceremony in the white house. If you haven't see any video it is on youtube and there are some good pictures on the Lohud Yankees Blog via the Associated Press. It was a nice speech the president gave. He singled out Mark Teixieira, Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada. The Yankees felt it was a great experience and that they gained a lot from it. They will be ready to go back to work tomorrow against the Baltimore Orioles for the start of a 3 game series.
Here is the Yankees lineup
Javier Vazquez will try and win his 2nd straight start after getting his first victory of the season in his last start. He will face Scott Kazmir.
