New York Mets are shutout in NL Wild Card game



The New York Mets were defeated by the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-0.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The Mets offense couldn't get much of anything going against Madison Bumgarner. 

Syndergaard pitched seven shutout innings giving up  two hits and three walks with ten strikeouts.  Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked two with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Familia took the loss in the game. 

Madison Bumgarner pitched a complete game shutout giving up four hits and two walks.  He struck out six and earned the win. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk, TJ Rivera had a hit and Rene Rivera had a hit.  James Loney drew a walk, Ty Kelly had a hit and TJ Rivera hit a double.  The Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Rene Rivera had a passed ball. 

Denard Span had a hit and drew a walk, Brandon Belt drew two walks and Buster Posey drew a walk.  Brandon Crawford had a hit and drew a walk, Angel Pagan had a hit and Joe Panik drew a walk.  Conor Gillaspie had two hits and three RBI, Crawford hit a double and Gillaspie hit a homerun.  The Giants were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Span had a stolen base and was caught stealing. 

In the ninth Gillaspie hit a three run homerun to give the Giants a 3-0 lead and that would be the final score of the game.

The Toronto Blue Jays win a thrilling AL Wild Card game over the Baltimore Orioles



The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and the final score was 5-2.  Marcus Stroman started for the Blue Jays and pitched well and Chris Tillman pitched well for the Orioles.  Edwin Encarnacion was the hero as he hit the walk off homerun for the Blue Jays. 

Stroman pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out six.  Brett Cecil pitched 1/3 of an inning with a walk, Joe Biagini pitched to two batters and struck them both out and Jason Grilli pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Roberto Osuna pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out two and Francisco Liriano earned the win pitching 1 2/3 innings and he struck out one. 

Tillman pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Mychal Givens pitched 2 1/3 innings striking out three, Donnie Hart pitched to one batter and retired him and Brad Brach pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Darren O'Day pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out one, Brian Duensing pitched 1/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Ubaldo Jimenez took the loss pitching without recording an out.  He gave up three hits and three runs. 

Devon Travis had a hit, Josh Donaldson had two hits and Encarnacion had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Jose Bautista had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Michael Saunders had a hit and Kevin Pillar had a hit.  Ezequiel Carrera had two hits and an RBI.  Saunders, Pillar and Donaldson each hit a double and Bautista and Encarnacion each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Adam Jones had a hit, Manny Machado had a hit and Mark Trumbo had a hit and two RBI.  Chris Davis drew a walk, Michael Bourn had a hit and Trumbo hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Bourn had a stolen base. 

In the second Bautista hit a solo homerun to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Trumbo hit a two run homerun to give the Orioles a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Carrera hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the 11th Encarnacion hit a three run walk off homerun to give the Jays a 5-2 victory. 

The Jays will move on to play the Texas Rangers in the ALDS and the Orioles are going home.

New York Mets end the regular season with a loss in Philadelphia



The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-2.  Gabriel Ynoa started for the Mets and he pitched well and the bullpen was pretty good.  Kelly Johnson had two hits to lead the offense. 

Ynoa pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter and retired him, Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Erik Goeddel pitched giving up two hits and three runs with only two being earned.  He walked one and struck out none and took his second loss of the season.  Josh Edgin pitched a perfect inning and Jim Henderson pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run. 

Jerad Eickhoff pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Colton Murray won his first game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Michael Mariot pitched 1/3 of an inning with a walk and Joely Rodriguez pitched to two batters and retired them both.  Hector Neris pitched an inning giving up two hits and he earned his second save of the season. 

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Juan Lagares drew a walk and Matt Reynolds had a hit.  Jay Bruce had a hit, Alejandro De Aza had a hit and an RBI and Johnson had two hits.  Brandon Nimmo had a hit, Michael Conforto had a hit and Kevin Plawecki had a hit and an RBI.  Johnson, Reynolds and Plawecki each hit a double and the Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Johnson had a stolen base and Lagares was caught stealing.  Duda committed two errors and Plawecki had a passed ball. 

Cesar Hernandez had two hits and an RBI, Jimmy Paredes had an RBI and Odubel Herrera had a hit.   Maikel Franco had four hits and an RBI, Andres Blanco had three hits and Aaron Altherr had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  Blanco hit a double and the Phillies were 4-8 with runners in scoring positioin and left seven men on base. 

In the third Franco hit an RBI single to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth De Aza hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the seventh Plawecki hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh Asche reached on a fielding error and a run scored to tie the game at two.  Hernandez hit an RBI single still in the seventh and the Phillies had a 3-2 lead.  Paredes hit a sac fly to push the lead to 4-2 and in the eighth Altherr hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-2 which would be the final score. 

The Mets will host the San Francisco Giants in the wild card game at Citi Field on Wednesday night.  The winner of that game will play a first round NLDS against the Chicago Cubs.

The New York Yankees lose their final game of the season



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and he pitched ok and the bullpen was good.  Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann and Didi Gregorius each had two hits. 

Cessa pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with no walks and six strikeouts.  He lost his fourth game of the season.  Tommy Layne pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Blake Parker pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning.  Richard Bleier pitched a perfect inning. 

Kevin Gausman pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Gausman won his ninth game of the season and Zach Britton pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out three. 

Gardner had two hits, Ellsbury had two hits and Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk.  McCann had two hits and an RBI, Gregorius had two hits and an RBI and Ronald Torreyes had a hit.  McCann hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Manny Machado had a hit, Mark Trumbo had a hit and Matt Wieters had two hits and four RBI.  Chris Davis had a hit, Jonathan Schoop had two hits and Hyun Soo Kim drew a walk.  J.J. Hardy had an RBI, Schoop hit a double and Wieters hit two homeruns.  The Orioles were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left one men on base.  Schoop and Stubbs were each caught stealing. 

In the third Hardy hit a sac fly to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Wieters hit a two run homerun to give the Orioles a 3-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth McCann hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  Wieters hit a two run homerun in the sixth to extend the Orioles lead to 5-1.  In the eighth Gregorius hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees finish the season with 84 wins which was good enough for their 24th straight winning season.  It was a disappointing year but also a good year as they traded and had Alex Rodriguez retire and brought up a lot of their young talent and had success.  They will look to build off of that and be ready to go in the spring.  The Orioles will head to Toronto for the Wild Card game on Tuesday night.
