The New York Mets finish their exhibition schedule with a tie in Texas



The New York Mets tied the Texas Rangers 4-4 on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas.  Dillon Gee started and pitched ok and Anthony Recker led the offense with a grand slam. 

Gee pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts.   Alex Torres pitched an inning giving up two unearned runs with two walks, Sean Gilmartin pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and Zach Thornton pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Darrell Ceciliani drew a walk, Curtis Granderson had a hit and Alex Castellanos had a hit.  David Wright had a hit, Johnny Monell had a hit and drew a walk and John Mayberry Jr. had a hit.  Matt Reynolds drew a walk, Recker had a hit and four RBI and Daniel Muno drew two walks.  Recker hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Muno committed an error. 

In the fourth Adam Rosales hit an RBI single to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Trever Adams hit an RBI single to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead.  In the sixth a wild pitch scored another run and gave the Rangers a 3-0 lead.  Jake Smolinski hit an RBI single to make it 4-0 Rangers.  In the ninth Recker hit a grand slam to tie the game 4-4 and that was how it ended. 

The Mets will be off on Sunday as they travel to Washington D.C.  They will begin the season on Monday at 4:00PM against the Nationals with Bartolo Colon starting. 

The New York Mets shutout the Texas Rangers



The New York Mets defeated the Texas Rangers by the score of 5-0 on Friday night.  The game took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas.  Jacob deGrom started and pitched well and the bullpen did as well.  David Wright and Juan Lagares led the offense with three hits each. 

deGrom won his fourth game of the spring pitching four innings and giving up a hit and no runs with four strikeouts.  Rafael Montero pitched two innings giving up two walks and he struck out one, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Jennry Mejia pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Jerry Blevins pitched an inning striking out one. 

Lagares had three hits, Curtis Granderson had two hits and an RBI and Wright had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Alex Castellanos drew a walk, Lucas Duda had an RBI and drew a walk and Eric Campbell had a hit.  Wilmer Flores drew two walks, Travis d'Arnaud drew a walk and Johnny Monell had a hit.  Daniel Muno drew a walk, Lagares, Wright, Monell and Granderson each hit a double.  The Mets were 2-17 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Flores had a stolen base. 

Wright hit an RBI double in the first to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Ruben Tejada rached on an error allowing a run to score to make it 2-0.  Granderson hit an RBI double in the seventh to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.  Duda reached on a fielder's choice and a run scored to make it 4-0 in the seventh and then Flores walked to make it 5-0. 

The Mets will play their final spring game on Saturday afternoon against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas.  The Mets will then head to Washington D.C. to begin the season against the Washington Nationals on Monday afternoon.   

New York Yankees rally to win final exhibition game



The New York Yankees defeated the Washington Nationals by the score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C.  Nathan Eovaldi started and pitched well after a rough start.  Chris Young and Stephen Drew each hit a homerun to lead the offense. 

Eovaldi pitched five innings giving up four hits and three runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  Chris Martin pitched a perfect innings with a couple of strikeouts, Justin Wilson faced two batters and retired them both and David Carpenter pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  He picked up the win.  Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.  Betances picked up his first save of the spring. 

Young had a hit and two RBI, Brett Gardner had two hits and Brian McCann had a hit.  Drew had a hit and two RBI, Didi Gregorius had a hit and McCann and Gregorius each hit a double.  Drew and Young each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

In the first Ryan Zimmerman hit a sacrifice fly to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  Wilson Ramos hit a two run single to give the Nationals a 3-0 lead in the first.  In the fifth Drew hit a two run homerun to cut the lead to 3-2 Nationals.  In the eighth Young hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead and that was the final score.  The Yankees are now headed home to New York.  They will work out on Sunday and have the season opener on Monday afternoon against the Toronto Blue Jays.  They finished their spring with a 17-16-1 record. 

Masahiro Tanaka will start the opener on Monday and the final roster decisions were made with John Ryan Murphy being the backup catcher and Austin Romine being designated for assignment.  The last two spots in the bullpen went to Chris Martin and Chasen Shreve the other day and the utility infielder to fill in for Brendan Ryan is Gregorio Petit.  The Yankees will open the season at home with three against the Blue Jays and then three against the Boston Red Sox before hitting the road.   

New York Yankees lose final spring game in Florida



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Washington Nationals by the score of 8-2 on Friday afternoon.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.  CC Sabathia made the start and after struggling early he pitched well.  Chase Headley had two hits to lead the offensive attack.

Sabathia pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  He suffered his third loss of the spring.  Branden Pinder pitched to two batters and retired them both, Andrew Bailey pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts and Nick Goody pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.  Danny Burawa pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up an unearned run with a walk and two strikeouts, Chasen Shreve pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked a batter and Cesar Vargas pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Ben Gamel had a hit, Brian McCann had a hit and Mark Teixeira had a hit.  Slade Heathcott drew a walk, Headley had two hits and an RBI and Chris Young had a hit.  Ramon Flores had a hit, Rob Refsnyder had a hit and an RBI and John Ryan Murphy drew a walk.  Teixeira, Headley, Flores and Refsnyder each hit a double and the Yankees were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the first Bryce Harper hit an RBI triple to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead and Ryan Zimmerman hit an RBI single to increase the lead to 2-0.  Ian Desmond hit an RBI double to make it a 3-0 game.  In the bottom of the fourth Headley hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 3-1 Nationals.  Josh Johnson hit an RBI single in the seventh to make it 4-1 Nationals.  Mike Carp hit a three run homerun in the seventh and it was 7-1 Nationals.  In the ninth Austin Davidson hit an RBI single to push the Nationals lead to 8-1.  Refsnyder hit an RBI double in the ninth to cut the lead to 8-2 and that was the final score. 

The Yankees broke camp after the game and are headed to Washington D.C. to play one final exhibition game against the Nationals at their home park.  The Yankees will then head home to New York to begin the regular season on Monday afternoon against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The New York Mets fall just short to the St. Louis Cardinals



The New York Mets were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched ok.  Matt Reynolds had two hits to lead the offense. 
Colon lost his third game of the spring pitching five innings and giving up six hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out two.  Jerry Blevins pitched to a batter and gave up a hit, Buddy Carlyle pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Erik Goeddel pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He struck out a batter, Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Alex Torres pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Juan Lagares had a hit, Curtis Granderson had a hit and Daniel Muno had a hit.  Lucas Duda had a hit, Michael Cuddyer had a hit and Anthony Recker drew two walks.  Kyle Johnson had a hit, Amed Rosario had a hit and an RBI and Reynolds had two hits and three RBI.  Reynolds hit a double and the MEts were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Reynolds had a stolen base and Goeddel committed an error. 

In the first Jhonny Peralta hit an RBI double to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Peralta hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0 and Matt Adams hit an RBI single to make it a 3-0 game.  In the seventh Danny Diekroeger hit an RBI double to make it 4-0 and Kolten Wong hit an RBI single and the score was 5-0 Cardinals.  In the seventh Reynolds hit a two run double to cut the lead to 5-2 and in the ninth Rosario hit an RBI single to make it a 5-3 game.  Reynolds hit an RBI single in the ninth to cut the lead to 5-4 but that was the final score. 

The Mets will take on the St. Louis Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida on Thursday afternoon.

The New York Mets shutout the Washington Nationals



The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals by the score of 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon.  The game took place at Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Florida.  Jon Niese started and pitched very well for the Mets.  John Mayberry Jr. had three hits and Travis d'Arnaud had two hits to lead the offense. 

Niese pitched six innings giving up four hits and no runs with no walks and three strikeouts.  Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a strikeout, Zach Thornton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Sean Gilmartin pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.  Niese won his third game of the spring and Gilmartin earned his first save of the spring. 

Ruben Tejada had a hit and an RBI, Mayberry Jr. had three hits and an RBI and Lucas Duda had a hit.  d'Arnaud had two hits, Eric Campbell had a hit and Daniel Muno drew a walk.  Mayberry Jr. hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the fifth Tejada hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead and in the sixth Mayberry Jr. hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead which was the final score. 

The Mets will take on the St. Louis Cardinals from Port St. Lucie on Wednesday afternoon. 

The New York Mets roll to victory over the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins by the score of 7-1 on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida.  Rafael Montero started and pitched well.  Lucas Duda led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Montero pitched six innings giving up two hits and no runs with no walks and six strikeouts.  Montero won his second game of the spring.  Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Jeurys Familia pitched 2/3 of an inning retiring both batters and Scott Rice pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit.  Jennry Mejia pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout. 

Juan Lagares had a hit, Curtis Granderson drew a walk and Cesar Puello had a hit.  David Wright had a hit, Duda had two hits and five RBI and Michael Cuddyer had a hit and two RBI.  Wilmer Flores had a hit, Ruben Tejada had a hit and Duda and Flores each hit a double.  Duda and Cuddyer each hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. 

In the fourth Duda hit a two run homerun to take a 2-0 lead.  In the sixth Duda hit a three run double to make it a 5-0 lead.  Cuddyer hit a two run homerun in the sixth to make it 7-0.  In the ninth Don Kelly hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 7-1 which was the final score.

The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday afternoon by the score of 3-2.  The game took place in Jupiter, Florida.  Dillon Gee started and pitched well for the Mets.  The Mets bullpen pitched well as well.  Lucas Duda had three hits and Curtis Granderson had a couple of hits to lead the offense. 

Gee pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and two runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Gee won his second game of the season.  Dario Alvarez pitched to one batter and struck him out, Zach Thornton pitched to two batters and retired them both and Sean Gilmartin pitched to two batters and struck out both of them.  Erik Goeddel pitched to one batter and retired him, saving his second game of the season. 

Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit, Granderson had two hits and drew a walk and David Wright drew a walk.  Duda had three hits and two RBI, Matt Reynolds had a hit and Anthony Recker had a hit and drew a walk.  Ruben Tejada had an RBI and drew a walk, Johnny Monell had a hit and the Mets were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Granderson and Recker each hit a double and Cuddyer had an outfield assist. 

In the third Duda hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Jason Heyward hit an RBI triple to tie the game at one.  Matt Holliday hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1 Cardinals.  In the fifth Duda hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the sixth Tejada reached on a fielder's choice and a run scored to give the Mets a 3-2 lead.  The final score was 3-2 Mets. 

 The Mets will be home in Port St. Lucie to take on the Florida Marlins on Monday afternoon. 

New York Yankees lose game and also lose Brendan Ryan to injury



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays by the score of 3-0.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.  Chase Whitley started and pitched very well, probably locking up a bullpen spot.  The Yankees offense didn't do much but Carlos Beltran, Brett Gardner  and Mark Teixeira each had a hit. 

Whitley pitched four innings giving up four hits and a run with no walks and six strikeouts.  Whitley took his first loss of the spring.  Esmil Rogers pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with a walk and three strikeouts, Chasen Shreve pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with a strikeout and Andrew Bailey pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.  Nick Rumbelow pitched two innings giving up a walk and striking out three batters. 

Gardner had a hit, Beltran had a hit and Ramon Flores had a hit.  Teixeira had a hit, John Ryan Murphy drew a walk and Chase Headley drew a walk.  Alex Rodriguez drew a walk, Ryan drew a walk and the Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Ryan committed an error and Flores had an outfield assist. 

In the second James Loney hit an RBI single giving the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Kevin Kiermaier reached on a fielding error and two runs scored.  The score was 3-0 and that was the final score.  The Yankees will play a split squad on Thursday afternoon.  They will be at home in Tampa against the Pittsburgh Pirates and on the road in Lakeland against the Detroit Tigers.

Masahiro Tanaka gets through final tune up as the New York Yankees lose



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Minnesota Twins by the score of 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon.  The game took place in Fort Myers, Florida.  Tanaka made the start and didn't pitch very well but the important thing is that he is healthy and ready to go for Opening Day.  Ramon Flores had two hits to lead the Yankees offense. 

Tanaka pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs.   He didn't walk a batter and he struck out one.  Tanaka lost his second game of the spring.  Chris Martin pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts, Branden Pineder pitched to two batters and retired them both and Danny Burawa pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Tyler Dugas had a hit and Fiorito had a hit.  Chris Young had a hit, Eddy Rodriguez drew a walk and Rob Refsnyder had a hit and drew a walk.  Flores had two hits and an RBI, The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Gardner was picked off and Refsnyder and Nick Noonan each committed an error. 

In the third Chris Hermann had an RBI single to give the Twins a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Flores had an RBI single to tie the game at one.  Eric Fryer hit an RBI single in the fourth to give the Twins a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Eduardo Escobar hit a solo homerun to give the Twins a 3-1 lead and that was the final score. 

The Yankees will take on the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday afternoon at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.

New York Yankees shutout the Houston Astros



The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros by the score of 7-0 on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.  Nathan Eovaldi started and pitched very well.  Chase Headley had three hits and three RBI to lead the offense.  Rob Refsnyder had a couple of hits. 

Eovaldi pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs with no walks and five strikeouts.  Eovaldi picked up his first win of the spring, Chase Whitley struck out the only batter that he faced, Esmil Rogers pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits and no runs and he struck out two and Chasen Shreve pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk.  Jose Ramirez pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two. 

Brendan Ryan had a hit, Headley had three hits and three RBI and Eric Jagielo drew a walk.  John Ryan Murphy had a hit, Alex Rodriguez had a hit and drew a walk and Aaron Judge drew a walk.  Stephen Drew had a hit, Cole Figueroa had a hit and Refsnyder had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Ramon Flores drew a walk, Slade Heathcott had a hit, and an RBI, Mason Williams drew a walk and Jonathan Galvez drew a walk.  Murphy, Headley and Drew each hit a double and Refsnyder hit two doubles.  Headley hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-15 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Refsnyder and Flores each had a stolen base and Ryan was caught stealing. 

In the third Headley hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Heathcott hit an RBI single to give them a 2-0 lead and a wild pitch made it 3-0 Yankees.  In the sixth Refsnyder hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead and Headley hit a two run single to make it a 6-0 game.  Murphy reached on a fielding error in the sixth and a run scored to make it 7-0 Yankees which was the final score. 

The Yankees will travel to Fort Myers, Florida on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Minnesota Twins.  They have the day off on Monday.
