The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers by the score of 8-1 on Thursday night. The game took place at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan. CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and did not pitch well, the bullpen was ok. Max Scherzer started for the Tigers and pitched very well and so did their bullpen. Delmon Young won the MVP of the series and had a good game along with Miguel Cabrera. The Yankees offense was missing in action once again.

Drew Smyly pitched to one batter and retired him, Octavio Dotel pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two and Phil Coke pitched two perfect innings.

Swisher in the sixth hit an RBI double to put the Yankees on the board and make it 6-1, that was all the scoring for the Yankees. The Tigers added a run in the seventh and eighth to finish the scoring at 8-1. Jackson and Peralta each hit solo homeruns.
The Tigers swept the best of seven series 4-0. The Tigers never trailed in the series and just completely shut down the Yankees offense. The Yankees offense was historically bad, they had the second lowest team batting average in their history. It was the worst showing since the 1920’s. It is hard to fathom that after putting away the Baltimore Orioles in a hard fought five game series that their offense just completely disappeared but it did. It wasn’t like they really hit against the Orioles either but they really didn’t hit against the Tigers. The Tigers will move on to the World Series and the Yankees into the off season.
