The New York Mets win behind their ace in Miami



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Friday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 6-2.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen was good.  Yoenis Cespedes, Wilmer Flores and James Loney each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched seven innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and nine strikeouts.  He won his sixth game of the season.  Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out three and Jim Henderson pitched a perfect inning. 

Tom Koehler pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  He lost his sixth game of the season.  Mike Dunn pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Cody Hall pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs with three strikeouts. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and an RBI, Cespedes had two hits and Neil Walker had a hit.  Flores had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Loney had two hits and two RBI.  Rene Rivera had a hit and two RBI, Syndergaard had a hit and Cespedes and Flores each hit a double.  Cabrera, Loney and Rivera each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Walker was caught stealing and Syndergaard committed an error. 

Derek Dietrich had a hit, Martin Prado had a hit and Christian Yelich had two hits.  Marcell Ozuna had a hit and two RBI, Justin Bour had a hit and Adeiny Hechavarria had a hit.  J.T. Realmuto drew a walk, Bour and Yelich each hit a double.  Ozuna hit a homerun and the Marlins were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Suzuki had two stolen bases and Realmuto had a stolen base. 

In the second Ozuna hit a solo homerun giving the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Cabrera hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  Flores hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the sixth Ozuna hit a sac fly to tie the game at two.  Loney hit a two run homerun in the seventh to give the Mets back the lead at 4-2 and Rivera would hit a two run homerun in the ninth to make it 6-2 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.   

New York Yankees defeat the Baltimore Orioles after nearly blowing a seven run lead



The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 8-6.  Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and he pitched very well and then ran out of the gas in the seventh and his final line didn't look so great.  Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman were great in relief though to close the door.  Alex Rodriguez and Starlin Castro each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Nova pitched 6+ innings giving up seven hits and five runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  He won his fourth game of the season.  Nick Goody faced one batter giving up a hit and one run was charged to him, Miller pitched two perfect innings with a couple of strikeouts and Chapman pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and earned his ninth save of the season. 

Tyler Wilson pitched four innings giving up seven hits and five runs with no walks and a strikeout.  He lost his fifth game of the season.  Dylan Bundy pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with three strikeouts.  Brian Duensing pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one and Vance Worley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits, Brett Gardner had two hits and Carlos Beltran had a hit.  Aaron Hicks had a hit, Rodriguez had three hits and an RBI and Castro had three hits and two RBI.  Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI, Chase Headley had a hit and Rob Refsnyder had a hit and an RBI.  Austin Romine had a hit and two RBI, Headley, Castro, Refsnyder and Hicks each hit a double and the Yankees were 5-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Ellsbury and Gardner each had a stolen base and Romine had a passed ball. 

Adam Jones had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Hyun Soo Kim had a hit and Manny Machado had a hit.  Mark Trumbo had a hit and an RBI, Matt Wieters had a hit and drew a walk and Pedro Alvarez had a hit and two RBI.  Jonathan Schoop had a hit, Ryan Flaherty had a hit and drew a walk and Kim hit a double.  Trumbo, Alvarez and Jones each hit a homerun and the Orioles were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the third Romine hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead, in the fourth Castro  hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 2-0.  Gregorius hit an RBI groundout in the fourth to push the lead to 3-0 and Refsnyder hit an RBI double making it 4-0 Yankees.  Romine hit an RBI single to extend it to 5-0 still in the fourth inning.  In the fifth Castro hit an RBI single and it was 6-0 Yankees.  A double steal including a steal of home by Ellsbury made it 7-0 in the sixth.  In the seventh the Orioles would score six runs to cut the lead to one.  Trumbo hit a solo homerun, Alvarez hit a two run homerun and Jones hit a three run homerun.  Rodriguez hit an RBI single in the ninth to give the Yankees an insurance run and make it 8-6 which would be the final score.  

The two teams have split the first two games of the series and the rubber game is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.  There is some expected bad weather so the game may not get in but we will see before the Yankees return home for four games against the Angels beginning on Monday night.   

New York Yankees blow late lead in Baltimore and fall to the Orioles



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 6-5.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and he didn't pitch that well.  Brett Gardner, Didi Gregorius and Chase Headley each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Eovaldi piitched 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and five runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Kirby Yates pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Dellin Betances lost his third game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Richard Bleier pitched a perfect inning. 

Chris Tillman pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and five runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  T.J. McFarland pitched an inning giving up a hit, Mychal Givens pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and earned his fifth win of the season and Zach Britton saved his 16th game of the season and pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Gardner had two hits and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit and two RBI.  Alex Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI, Starlin Castro had a hit and Gregorius had two hits.  Headley had two hits and an RBI, Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI and Gregorius hit a double.  Beltran, Rodriguez and Romine each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Gardner was caught stealing.

In the second Alvarez hit an RBI single to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Beltran hit a two run homerun and the Yankees grabbed a 2-1 lead.  Rodriguez hit a solo homerun to go back-to-back and it was 3-1 Yankees.  In the bottom of the fourth Davis hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the fifth Romine hit a solo homerun making it 4-2 Yankees.  In the sixth Headley hit an RBI single and the score was 5-2 Yankees.  In the bottom of the sixth Wieters hit a two run single to cut the lead to 5-4.  Schoop hit an RBI double to tie the game at five.  In the seventh Machado hit an RBI groundout to give the Orioles a 6-5 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees and Orioles will play game two of three on Saturday night.  The final game of the series will be on Sunday afternoon.

New York Yankees are shutout and swept in Toronto



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 7-0.  Masahiro Tanaka started and pitched very well and the bullpen wasn't very good.  Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran each had two hits. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up seven hits and two runs with only one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out two and he lost his first game of the season.  Kirby Yates pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and four runs with two walks, Nick Goody pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Richard Bleier pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Aaron Sanchez pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and no runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  He won his fifth game of the season.  Jason Grilli pitched to one batter and retired him and Aaron Loup pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Ryan Tepera pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Ellsbury had two hits, Brett Gardner drew a walk and Beltran had two hits.  Brian McCann drew a walk, Alex Rodriguez had a hit and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Ronald Torreyes had a hit, Rodriguez hit a double and the Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base, Tanaka and Ellsbury each committed an error and Beltran had an outfield assist. 

Jose Bautista had a hit, Josh Donaldson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Edwin Encarnacion had two hits and two RBI.  Michael Saunders had two hits and an RBI, Justin Smoak had a hit and two RBI and Devon Travis had a hit and drew a walk.  Kevin Pillar had a hit, Drew Barney had three hits and drew a walk.  Saunders hit two doubles and the Blue Jays were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Piillar had a stolen base and Grilli committed an error. 

In the fifth Donaldson hit an RBI single to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Martin hit into a double play and a run scored to make it a 2-0 game.  In the seventh Encarnacion hit a two run single to double the lead to 4-0, Saunders hit an RBI double making it 5-0 and Smoak hit a two run single to make it 7-0 which would be the final score. 

The Yankees were swept in the three game series and they scored three runs in the three games.  The Yankees offense has really struggled this year and that definitely was the case in this series.  The Yankees will play a makeup game on Thursday night in Detroit against the Tigers.   

The New York Mets drop a series to the Chicago White Sox in 2-1 loss



The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and pitched very well and the bullpen was very good as well.  Neil Walker and Rene Rivera each had two hits. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with two walks and ten strikeouts.  Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out one, Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning and Antonio Bastardo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.  Jim Henderson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out one, Hansel Robles pitched to one batter and retired him and Logan Verrett pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run and he lost his third game of the season. 

Miguel Gonzalez pitched five innings giving up three hits and a run with five walks and four strikeouts.  Dan Jennings pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked two and struck out one, Zach Putnam pitched 1/3 of an inning striking out one and Zach Duke pitched an inning walking one and striking out the side.  Nate Jones pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, David Robertson pitched two innings giving up a hit and two walks with a strikeout and Matt Albers pitched two innings giving up a hit and he walked two with a strikeout.  Albers won his second game of the season. 

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew two walks and Walker had two hits and drew two walks.  James Loney had a hit and drew a walk, Juan Lagares had a hit and drew two walks.  Ty Kelly drew a walk, Rivera had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and deGrom drew two walks.  Wilmer Flores drew a walk and the Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base. 

Adam Eaton drew a walk, Albers had a hit and Jose Abreu had an RBI and drew a walk.  Todd Frazier had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Brett Lawrie had two hits and J.B. Shuck had a hit and drew a walk.  Alex Avila had two hits, Avisail Garcia drew a walk and Lawrie and Albers each hit a double.  Frazier hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Abreu and Frazier were each caught stealing. 

In the second Rivera hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Frazier hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the 13th Abreu hit a sac fly to give the White Sox a 2-1 lead and that would be the final score. 

The White Sox took two out of three from the Mets and the Mets will be off on Thursday.

Matz pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Jim Henderson pitched to one batter and retired him, Noah Syndergaard pitched a perfect inning and struck out two batters and Robles lost his third game of the season.  He pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Jerry Blevins walked a batter and Logan Verrett pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and struck out one. 

Mat Latos pitched five innings giving up four hits and four runs with two of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out five.  Zach Putnam pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two, Dan Jennings pitched an inning giving up a hit and he won his second game of the season.  Nate Jones pitched an inning giving up a hit and David Robertson pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and he saved his 13th game of the season. 

Granderson had two hits and an RBI, Asdrubal Cabrera drew a walk and Michael Conforto drew a walk.  Yoenis Cespedes had an RBI, Walker had two hits and two RBI and Kevin Plawecki had a hit and drew a walk.  Matz had a hit, Alejandro De Aza had a hit and Ty Kelly had a hit.  Walker hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Conforto had a stolen base and Loney and Cabrera each committed an error. 

Adam Eaton drew a walk, Brett Lawrie had two hits and an RBI and Jose Abreu had a hit.  Todd Frazier had a hit and two RBI, Melky Cabrera had two hits and drew a walk and Tyler Saladino had two hits, two RBI and drew two walks.  Dioner Navarro had a hit and an RBI, Jimmy Rollins drew a walk and Frazier and Saladino hit a homerun.  The White Sox were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Saladino had two stolen bases, Lawrie and Rollins each had a stolen base and Fraizer committed two errors. 

In the first Cespedes hit a sac fly giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Granderson  hit a sac fly to make it 2-0 Mets.  In the third Walker hit a two run homerun and double the lead to 4-0.  In the sixth Frazier hit a two run homerun to cut the lead in half to 4-2.  Navarro hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the eighth Saladino hit a two run homerun to give the White Sox a 5-4 lead.  Lawrie hit an RBI single to push the lead to 6-4 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams have split the first two games of the series and will play the rubber game on Wednesday afternoon.   

New York Mets shutout the Chicago White Sox behind a dominant Matt Harvey



The New York Mets defeated the Chicago White Sox on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 1-0.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and he pitched great.  The bullpen pitched two perfect innings and Neil Walker provided the only offense that the Mets would need.  Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits. 

Harvey pitched seven shutout innings giving up two hits.  He walked one and struck out six and earned his fourth win of the season.  Addison Reed pitched an inning striking out two and Jeurys Familia saved his 17th game of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Jose Quintana lost his fifth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up six hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out seven.  Matt Albers pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Zach Duke retired the only batter that he faced. 

Cabrera had two hits, Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and Walker had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had a hit, Rene Rivera had a hit and drew a walk and Ty Kelly had a hit.  Flores hit a double and Walker hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Adam Eaton drew a walk, Jose Abreu had a hit and J.B. Shuck had a hit.  The White Sox were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Cabrera had an outfield assist. 

In the seventh Walker hit a solo homerun for the only run of the game.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.   

New York Yankees lose second straight game in Toronto



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 4-1 Toronto.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and pitched well, Dellin Betances didn't pitch well in relief.  The Yankees offense once again was stagnant. 

Sabathia pitched 6+ innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  He took his fourth loss of the season.  Betances pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Kirby Yates pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

J.A. Happ pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and three strikeouts.  Joe Biagini won his third game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit with two strikeouts, Jesse Chavez pitched an inning with a strikeout and Roberto Osuna saved his 12th game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out one.

Josh Donaldson had a hit, Edwin Encarnacion had a hit and Justin Smoak had a hit and an RBI.  Russell Martin had a hit, Devon Travis drew a walk and Kevin Pillar had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Drew Barney had a hit and two RBI, Ezequiel Carrera had a hit and Encarnacion hit a double.  Smoak hit a homerun and the Jays were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left one man on base.  Pillar had a stolen base. 

In the second Hicks had an RBI groundout to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Smoak hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the seventh Pillar hit an RBI single and Barney hit a two run single to give the Jays a 4-1 lead and that would be the final score of the game. 

The Yankees have lost two in a row and will try to salvage the final game of the three game series on Wednesday night.

New York Yankees fall to the Toronto Blue Jays as late rally falls short



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 4-2.  Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  The Yankees offense couldn't get much going, Brian McCann hit a two run homerun in the ninth for the only runs. 

Nova pitched six innings giving up eight hits and four runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  He took his third loss of the season.  Nick Goody pitched 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts and Richard Bleier made his major league debut pitching to two batters and retiring them both. 

Marco Estrada pitched eight innings for the Jays giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked three and struck out six and earned his third win of the season.  Aaron Loup pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a strikeout and Drew Storen earned his third save of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk, Carlos Beltran had a hit and McCann had a hit and two RBI.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, Starlin Castro drew two walks and Aaron Hicks had a hit.  Hicks and Teixeira each hit a double.  McCann hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base.

The Yankees and Jays will play game two of three on Tuesday night.
