The Yankees win a wild one in extra innings over the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-5 in 12 innings.  Masahiro Tanaka started and after getting off to a bad start pitched well.  Mark Teixeira had four RBI and Brian McCann hit a walk-off homerun. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Chris Capuano pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two, Nick Rumbelow pitched a perfect inning and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out both batters, Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and  a run with a walk and two strikeouts and Chasen Shreve won his sixth game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks. 

Chri s Archer pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and eight strikeouts.  Jake McGee pitched to one batter and struck him out, Kevin Jepsen pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and a strikeout and Brandon Gomes pitched an inning walking two batters.  Xavier Cedeno pitched to two batters and retired them both and Brad Boxberger pitched an inning walking one and striking out one.  Steve Geltz pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and four runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Geltz lost his fourth game of the season. 

Brett Gardner drew two walks, Chase Headley had two hits and Alex rodriguez had two hits and drew three walks.  Teixeira had two hits and four RBI with a walk, McCann had a hit and three RBI with a walk and Garrett Jones drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had two hits and drew a walk.  Gregorius hti a double, Teixeira and McCann each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Gardner and Young each had an outfield assist. 

Grady Sizemore had three hits, Stephen Souza Jr. drew a walk and Butler drew a walk.  Evan Longoria had two hits and an RBI, James Loney had a hit and an RBI and Logan Forsythe drew a walk.  David DeJesus had a hit, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk and Kevin Kiermaier had two hits and an RBI.  Rene Rivera had two hits and two RBI, Sizemore and Longoria each hit a double and Kiermaier hit a triple.  The Rays were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Kiermaier had a stolen base and Loney and Sizemore were each caught stealing. 

In the first Longoria hit an RBI double and Loney hit a sac fly to make it 2-0 Rays.  In the fifth Rivera hit a sac fly to increase the Rays lead to 3-0.  The Yankees got on the board in the eighth on a three run homerun by Teixeira to tie the game.  In the 12th Kiermaier and Rivera each hit an RBI single to make it 5-3 Rays.  The Yankees in the bottom of the 12th got an RBI single by Teixeira to trim the lead to 5-4 and then McCann hit a walk-off three run homerun to give the Yankees a 7-5 win. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.  The Yankees will have their ace Michael Pineda on the hill.

The New York Yankees salvage final game of road trip in Anaheim



The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California and the final score was 6-1.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and was good and the bullpen was really good.  Chase Headley led the offense with three hits and Chris Young and Didi Gregorius each had a couple of hits. 

Eovaldi pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and no runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  He earned his eighth win of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with a strikeout, Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Dellin Betances earned his seventh save of the season.  Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings walking two batters and striking out two. 

Matt Shoemaker pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Shoemaker lost his seventh game of the season.  Cesar Ramos pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Fernando Salas pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts and Jose Alvarez pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a walk with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Headley had three hits and an RBI and Alex Rodriguez had a hit.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Brian McCann had a hit and Garrett Jones had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Young had two hits, Gregorius had two hits and an RBI and Stephen Drew had a hit.  Young and Drew each hit a double and Jones hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

Johnny Giavotella had two hits, Mike Trout had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Albert Pujols drew two walks.  Erick Aybar drew a walk, David Freese had a hit and Matt Joyce had a hit.  Chris Iannetta had a hit and drew a walk, Trout hit a homerun and the Angels were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Aybar had a stolen base. 

In the third Headley had an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Jones hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0 Yankees.  In the eighth Gregorius had an RBI single to make it a 3-0 game.  The Angels got on the board in the bottom of the eighth with a Trout solo homerun to make it 3-1. 

The Yankees salvaged the last game of the three game series.  They will be off on Thursday before beginning a six game homestand on Friday night against the Tampa Bay Rays.   

The New York Mets are swept by the Chicago Cubs



The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-1.  Jacob deGrom started and didn't pitch very well.  The Mets had five hits and no one had more than one hit. 

deGrom pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out two and lost his sixth game of the season.  Logan Verrett pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two walks and striking out three, Alex Torres pitched an inning giving up a hit and tow runs with a walk. 

Jake Arrieta won his eighth game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up five hits and a run.  He walked none and struck out seven.  Travis Wood pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Wilmer Flores had a hit.  Johnny Monell had a hit, deGrom had a hit and deGrom, Granderson and Flores each hit a double.  The Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Murphy was picked off and Murphy committed an error. 

Starlin Castro had two hits, Anthony Rizzo had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Miguel Montero had two hits and two RBI.  Chris Coughlan drew three walks, Mike Baxter had a hit and Chris Denorfia had a hit.  Jonathan Herrera had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Herrera and Montero each hit a homerun and the Cubs were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Coghlan had a stolen base and Montero had a pickoff. 

In the second Herrera hit a sac bunt RBI to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead.  In the third the Mets tied the score on a Granderson RBI double.  The Cubs took the lead for good in the fifth.  Rizzo hit an RBI single to make it 2-1 and in the sixth Herrera hit a two run homerun to push the lead to 4-1.  In the ninth Montero hit a two run homerun to make it 6-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets were swept in the three game home series.  They will head to the West Coast now to begin a three game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night. 

The New York Mets are shutout by the Chicago Cubs



The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field and the final score was 1-0 Cubs.  Jon Niese started for the Mets and pitched well and their bullpen pitched well also.  The Mets offense only managed three hits. 

Niese lost his eighth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and a run with four walks and five strikeouts.  Bobby Parnell pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Sean Gilmartin pitched an inning striking out two. 

Kyle Hendricks pitched six innings giving up three hits and no runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Hendricks won his third game of the season.  Hector Rondon pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Pedro Strop pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jason Motte saved his third game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Lucas Duda had a hit and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Kevin Plawecki had a hit.  Murphy hit a double and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Dexter Fowler had a hit, Kris Bryant had a hit and drew two walks and Starlin Castro drew two walks.  Matt Szczur had two hits and an RBI, David Ross drew a walk and Szczur hit a double and the Cubs were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

The only run of the game came in the sixth inning on a Szczur RBI double.  The Cubs were able to hold the 1- 0 lead and win the game by that score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.   

The Yankees lose a close one in Anaheim as the offense does next to nothing



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California and the final score was 2-1.  Ivan Nova made the start and pitched well and Adam Warren making his first appearance out of the bullpen for the year was great.  The Yankees offense only managed two hits. 

Nova pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and two runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Nova lost his first game of the season.  Warren pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

Andrew Heaney won his first game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up two hits and a run with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Joe Smith pitched a perfect inning and Huston Street saved his 23rd game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Mark Teixeira had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Chase Headley drew a walk.  Teixeira hit a homerun and the Yankees never had a runner in scoring position and didn't leave anyone on base. 

Johnny Giavotella drew a walk, Kole Calhoun had a hit and Mike Trout had two hits.  Albert Pujols had a hit and an RBI, Erick Aybar had two hits and an RBI and David Freese had a hit.  Matt Joyce had two hits and drew a walk, Chris Iannetta drew a walk and Joyce and Aybar each hit a double.  Pujols and Aybar each hit a homerun.  The Angels were 0-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Trout was caught stealing and Smith committed an error. 

In the second Teixeira hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Pujols and Aybar hit back-to-back homeruns to give the Angels a 2-1 lead and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Wednesday night.

The New York Yankees lose to Mike Trout and the Anaheim Angels



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Anaheim Angels on Monday night.  The game took place at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California and the final score was 4-1.  CC Sabathia started and pitched ok and Brett Gardner had three hits to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  He lost his eighth game of the season.  Nick Rumbelow pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout. 

C.J. Wilson pitched six innings giving up five hits and a run with three walks and five strikeouts.  Wilson won his sixth game of the season.  Trevor Gott pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked a batter, Joe Smith pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Huston Street saved his 22nd game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit. 

Gardner had three hits, Alex Rodriguez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Mark Teixeira drew a walk.  Carlos Beltran had two hits, Brian McCann drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had two hits and drew a walk.  Gardner hit two doubles and the Yankees were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Murphy had a passed ball. 

Johnny Giavotella had a hit, Kole Calhoun had a hit and an RBI and Mike Trout had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Albert Pujols had a hit and an RBI, David Freese drew a walk and C.J. Cron had a hit and an RBI.  Daniel Robertson had a hit, Pujols and Calhoun each hit a double and Trout and Cron each hit a homerun.  The Angels were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Trout had a stolen base. 

In the first Pujols hit an RBI double to give the Angels a 1-0 lead.  In the third Rodriguez hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  Trout hit a solo homerun in the third to give the Angels back the lead at 2-1.  In the fifth Kalhoun hit an RBI double to increase the lead to 3-1 and in the seventh Cron hit a solo homerun to make it 4-1 which would be the final score.  Trout robbed Young of two doubles and three RBI so he was the biggest reason the Yankees lost as he took away three runs and had his own solo homerun to account for four runs.  The two teams will play on Tuesday night in game two of three.

New York Mets win in Steven Matz MLB debut



The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-2 Mets.  Steven Matz started and made his MLB debut.  He pitched well and he also had three hits and four RBI to lead the offense.  Curtis Granderson and Johnny Monell each had two hits. 

Matz pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  He won his first game of the season and career.  Carlos Torres pitched to one batter and retired him and Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Josh Smith lost his first game of the season.  Smith pitched five innings giving up four hits and three runs with one of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out three.  Pedro Villarreal pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked one and didn't strike out a batter, Burke Badenhop pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Granderson had two hits and two RBI, Lucas Duda drew two walks and John Mayberry Jr. had a hit.  Monell had two hits, Eric Campbell drew three walks and Matz had three hits and four RBI.  Matz hit a double and Granderson hit a double.  The Mets were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Cuddyer had a stolen base. 

Brandon Phillips had a hit and an RBI, Joey Votto drew a walk and Todd Frazier had a hit and an RBI.  Jay Bruce drew two walks, Skip Schumaker had a hit and Marlon Byrd had a hit.  Brayan Pena had a hit, Eugenio Suarez had a hit and Phillips and Frazier each hit a homerun.  The Reds were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Suarez and Phillips each committed an error and Bruce had an outfield assist. 

In the first Phillips hit a solo homerun that gave the Reds a 1-0 lead.  It was overturned on a replay review.  In the second Matz hit a two run double to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Frazier hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  Granderson hit an RBI double in the fifth to make it a 3-2 game.  In the sixth Matz hit a two run single to make it 5-2 Mets.  In the sixth Tejada hit a force out and a run scored making it 6-2.  Granderson hit an RBI single in the eighth and it was 7-2 which would be the final score.   The Mets will have the day off on Monday and begin a three game series on Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs at Citi Field. 

The New York Mets win a suspended game in extra innings



The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds in a suspended game completed from Saturday on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 2-1 in 13 innings.  Matt Harvey started the game on Saturday and pitched well, the bullpen was great Saturday and Sunday.  Curtis Granderson had three hits and Lucas Duda and Wilmer Flores each had two. 

Harvey pitched six innings giving up five hits and a run with two walks and three strikeouts.  Carlos Torres pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits, Alex Torres walked the only batter that he faced and Hansel Robles pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings.  Jeurys Familia pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts,  Logan Verrett pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one and Bobby Parnell pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and he won his first game of the season. 

Michael Lorenzen pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and a run with four walks and four strikeouts.  Manny Parra pitched to one batter and retired him, Ryan Mattheus pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out one and J.J. Hoover pitched an inning walking two batters.  Burke Badenhop pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Carlos Contreras pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Nate Adcock pitched giving up a hit and a run with a walk and not recording an out.  He lost his first game of the season. 

Granderson had three hits, an RBI and drew two walks, Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew two walks and Duda had two hits and an RBI.  Michael Cuddyer had a hit, Flores had two hits and Juan Lagares had a hit.  Kevin Plawecki had a hit and drew a walk.  Carrell Ceciliani drew a walk, Dilson Herrera drew two walks and Granderson, Tejada and Cuddyer each hit a double.  Granderson hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-15 with runners in scoring position and left 19 men on base. 

Brandon Phillips had a hit and an RBI, Joey Votto drew two walks and Todd Frazier had a hit.  Jay Bruce had a hit, Marlon Byrd had two hits and Skip Schumaker had a hit and drew a walk.  Ivan De Jesus had a hit, Tucker Barnhart had two hits and drew a walk and Brayan Pena had two hits.  Schumaker, Barnhart and Phillips each hit a double adn the Reds were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  De Jesus was caught stealing, Votto and Suarez each committed an error and Schumaker had an outfield assist. 

In the third Granderson hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Phillips hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  In the 13th Duda reached on a fielder's choice and a run scored to win the game 2-1.  The two teams will play the regular scheduled game on Sunday right after this game. 

New York Yankees drop series finale in Houston



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Houston Astros on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas and the final score was 3-1.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and pitched well.  The Yankees offense didn't do much of anything, Brett Gardner had the only RBI. 

Pineda pitched a complete game allowing three runs with two of them being earned on seven hits and no walks.  He struck out eight batters and took his fifth loss of the season. 

Collin McHugh pitched eight innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and eight strikeouts.  He won his ninth game of the season.  Luke Gregerson saved his 18th game of the season pitching a perfect inning. 

Gardner had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Alex Rodriguez had a hit and Stephen Drew had a walk.  The Yankees were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Gardner committed an error. 

George Springer had a hit, Carlos Correa had two hits and Jose Altuve had a hit.  Evan Gattis had a hit and an RBI, Preston Tucker had a hit and Domingo Santana had a hit.  Jason Castro had an RBI, Correa hit two doubles and Tucker hit a double.  Gattis hit a triple and the Astros were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left one man on base.  Altuve and Santana were each caught stealing. 

In the third Gardner hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Correa hit an RBI double to tie the game at one and in the seventh Gattis hit an RBI triple to make it 2-1 Astros.  Castro hit a sac fly in the eighth to make it 3-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams split the four game series and the Yankees will head to Anaheim to take on the Angels in a three game set beginning on Monday night.   

The New York Mets win their second game in a row



The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field and the final score was 2-1.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched great and the Mets offense managed two hits but that was enough to win. 

Syndergaard pitched eight innings giving up five hits and a run with no walks and five strikeouts.  He won his third game of the season.  Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning and earned his 21st save of the season. 

Johnny Cueto pitched six innings giving up two hits and two runs with three walks and six strikeouts and he lost his fifth game of the season.  Manny Parra pitched an inning with a strikeout, Nate Adcock pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Eric Campbell drew a walk and Lucas Duda had an RBI and drew a walk.  Dilson Herrera had a hit which was a triple and Granderson hit a homerun.  the Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Granderson had a stolen base.

In the first Granderson hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Dominguez hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at one.  In the fifth Duda had an RBI walk to make it 2-1 and that would be the final score.   

New York Yankees take second in a row in Houston



The New  York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas and the final score was 9-6.  Masahiro Tanaka started and struggled for his second straight outing.  The Yankees bullpen was great and Chris Young, Brian McCann and Chase Headley each hit a homerun. 

Tanaka pitched five innings giving up seven hits and six runs.  He walked two and struck out five.  Bryan Mitchell pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts, Chasen Shreve pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one.  Shreve won his fifth game of the season, Justin Wilson pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out two, Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one saving his sixth game of the season. 

Brett Oberholtzer pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up four hits and six runs with three walks and a strikeout.  Roberto Hernandez pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up a hit and three walks and he struck out two, Josh Fields pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out one, Pat Neshek lost his first game of the season pitching an inning giving up two hits and two runs with one of them being earned and he walked one.  Tony Sipp pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run.

In the first McCann hit a grand slam to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead.  In the second Young hit a two run homerun to make it a 6-0 game.  In the bottom of the second Carter hit an RBI double and Springer hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-2.  In the fourth Carter hit a solo homerun to make it a 6-3 game.  In the fifth Correa hit a two run homerun and Altuve hit a solo homerun to tie the game at six.  The Yankees took back the lead in the eight and were able to hold onto it.  Teixeira hit a two run double in the eighth and Headley hit a solo homerun in the ninth to give the Yankees a 9-6 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the four game series on Sunday afternoon.  The Yankees will then head to Anaheim for a three game series before returning home.
