New York Yankees sweep the doubleheader over the Detroit Tigers with game 2 victory


The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Thursday evening.  The game took place at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan and the final score was 6-4.  CC Sabathia started and pitched well and Domingo German pitched great following him.  DJ LeMahieu had three hits to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  German won his 18th game of the season pitching four innings giving up two hits and he struck out five, Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and saved his 37th game of the season. 

Spencer Turnbull pitched five innings giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and eight strikeouts and he lost his 15th game of the season.  Nick Ramirez pitched two innings giving up a hit and two walks with three strikeouts, Buck Farmer pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Gregory Soto pitched giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and he didn’t record an out.  John Schreiber pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

LeMahieu had three hits and an RBI, Aaron Judge had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Gleyber Torres had a hit, Gary Sanchez drew a walk and Luke Voit had a hit and drew a walk.  Mike Ford had a hit, Gio Urshela had a hit and two RBI and Tyler Wade had two hits and drew a walk.  LeMahieu and Wade each hit a double, Judge and Urshela each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Sanchez was caught stealing and Ford committed an error. 

Harold Castro had two hits, Jeimer Candelario drew a walk and Jordy Mercer had a hit.  Brandon Dixon had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Grayson Greiner had a hit and an RBI and John Hicks had a hit and an RBI.  Dixon hit a double and Greiner hit a triple.  The Tigers were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Dixon committed an error. 

In the first Judge hit a two-run homerun and the Yankees had a 2-0 lead.  In the second LeMahieu hit an RBI double to push the lead to 3-0.  In the fourth Dixon hit a two-run double to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the fifth Gregorius hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-2.  In the ninth Urshela hit a two-run homerun to make it 6-2.  In the bottom of the ninth Greiner hit an RBI triple and Hicks hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-4 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees swept the doubleheader and took two out of three in the series.  They will head to Toronto to begin a three-game series on Friday night.   

New York Yankees take game 1 of doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers


The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan and the final score was 10-4.  J.A. Happ started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  Luke Voit and Austin Romine each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Happ pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  Chad Green won his fourth game of the season pitching 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts, Ben Heller pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a  walk and a strikeout and Cory Gearrin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk.  Tyler Lyons pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout. 

Matthew Boyd pitched five innings giving up three hits and four runs with two of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out three and lost his 11th game of the season.  David McKay pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts, Bryan Garcia pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two his and three runs with two walks and a strikeout and Jose Cisnero pitched to one batter and got him out.  Matt Hall pitched two innings giving up five hits and three runs with two strikeouts. 

Aaron Judge had a hit and drew three walks, Edwin Encarnacion had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Voit had three hits and three RBI.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Cameron Maybin had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Romine had three hits and drew a walk.  Romine, Voit and Maybin each hit a double and Gregorius hit a triple.  Voit and Encarnacion each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Maybin had two stolen bases. 

Victor Reyes had a hit, Jeimer Candelario had a hit and drew a walk and Miguel Cabrera had two hits and drew a walk.  Ronny Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI, Dawel Lugo had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Christian Stewart had a hit.  Travis Demeritte had a hit and an RBI, Jake Rogers had two hits and Willi Castro had a hit and drew two walks.  Rogers, Castro and Cabrera each hit a double, Candelario hit a triple and Lugo, Demeritte each hit a homerun.  The Tigers were 0-10 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Lugo, Candelario and Castro each committed an error. 

In the first Voit hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the third Encarnacion hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 4-0.  In the fifth Lugo hit a two-run homerun cutting the lead to 4-2.  In the seventh a wild pitch allowed Judge to score and Maybin hit a two-run double extending the Yankees lead to 7-2.  In the bottom of the seventh Rodriguez hit an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 7-3.  In the eighth Voit hit an RBI single and Gregorius hit a two-run triple and the score was 10-3 Yankees.  In the bottom of the eighth Demeritte hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 10-4 and that would be the final score.

New York Mets shutout the Arizona Diamondbacks


The New York Mets defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 9-0.  Steven Matz started and he pitched well, the bullpen also pitched well.  Jeff McNeil had three hits and three RBI to lead the offense. 

Matz won his 10th game of the season pitching six innings and giving up four hits and no runs.  He walked three and struck out seven.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one, Paul Sewald pitched an inning with a strikeout and Tyler Bashlor pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk. 

Robbie Ray pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up five hits and five runs with a strikeout.  Ray lost his eighth game of the season.  Matt Andriese pitched to one batter and got him out, Taylor Clarke pitched four innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts and Yoshihisa Hirano pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk.  Jon Duplantier pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout. 

Amed Rosario had a hit and drew a walk, Pete Alonso drew a walk and Joe Panik drew a walk.  McNeil had three hits and three RBI, Wilson Ramos had an RBI and J.D. Davis had two hits and an RBI.  Todd Frazier had two hits and three RBI, Brandon Nimmo had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Juan Lagares had a hit.  Rosario, Lagares, McNeil and Davis each hit a double.  Frazier and McNeil each hit two homeruns.  Nimmo hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Rosario and McNeil each had a stolen base. 

Tim Locastro had a hit, Ketel Marte had a hit and Ildemaro Vargas had a hit.  Eduardo Escobar had a hit, Wilmer Flores had a hit and drew a walk and Adam Jones drew a walk.  Nick Ahmed drew a walk, Caleb Joseph had a hit, Jake Lamb had a hit and drew a walk and Marte and Locastro each hit a double.  The Diamondbacks were 0-10 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. 

In the first Ramos hit an RBI ground out to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Davis hit an RBI single and Frazier hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 4-0 lead.  Nimmo hit a solo homerun and it was 5-0.  In the second McNeil hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 6-0.  In the third Frazier hit a solo homerun and it was 7-0.  In the sixth McNeil hit a two-run homerun and the lead was extended to 9-0. 

The two teams will play game three of three on Thursday afternoon.  The Mets will look for the three-game sweep as they continue to push for the second wild card.

The New York Mets defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Zack Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Robinson Cano and Todd Frazier each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Wheeler pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out seven and won his 11th game of the season.  Brad Brach pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run and Justin Wilson saved his second game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout. 

Zac Gallen pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and nine strikeouts.  He lost his fifth game of the season.  Jimmie Sherfy pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout, T.J. McFarland pitched to one batter and got him out and Stefan Crichton pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.   Michael Conforto had a hit, Cano had two hits and Amed Rosario drew a walk.  Brandon Nimmo drew a walk, Frazier had two hits and three RBI and Conforto, and Cano each hit a double.  Frazier hit two doubles and the Mets were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Ketel Marte had two hits and drew a walk, Eduardo Escobar had two hits and two RBI and Christian Walker had a hit.  Josh Rojas drew two walks, Adam Jones had a hit and Nick Ahmed had two hits.  Jake Lamb had a hit, Kevin Cron had a hit and Marte hit a double and Escobar hit a homerun.  The Diamondbacks were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Marte and Rojas each had a stolen base. 

In the first Escobar hit an RBI single to give the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead.  In the second Frazier hit a two-run double to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Frazier hit an RBI double to push the lead to 3-1.  In the eighth Escobar hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-2 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night. 

New York Yankees lose a wild slugfest in Detroit


The New York Yankees lost to the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan and the final score was 12-11.  Nestor Cortes Jr. started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  Brett Gardner and Didi Gregorius each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Cortes Jr. pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with two of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out two.  Luis Cessa pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with one being earned, Cory Gearrin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks.  Ryan Dull pitched to one batter and got him out, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and three strikeouts and Zack Britton pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Chance Adams took his first loss of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Edwin Jackson pitched two innings giving up six hits and six runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Tyler Alexander pitched four innings giving up two hits and two runs with four strikeouts, John Schreiber pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout and Daniel Stumpf pitched giving up a hit and a run.  Jose Cisnero pitched to one batter and got him out, Buck Farmer pitched an inning giving up a walk and Joe Jimenez pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and he won his fourth game of the season.

In the first Gardner hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Ford hit an RBI single and Wade hit a two-run triple to push the lead to 4-0.  Gardner hit a two-run homerun and it was 6-0.  In the third Cabrera hit an RBI single, Candelario hit an RBI single and Stewart hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 6-3.  Demeritte hit an RBI single, Greiner hit a two-run single and the game was tied at six.  In the fourth Torres hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees back the lead at 7-6.  In the fifth Gregorius hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 8-6.  In the bottom of the fifth Stewart hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 8-7.  In the sixth Cabrera hit a sac fly to tie the game at eight.  Candelario hit a two-run single to give the Tigers a 10-8 lead.  In the seventh Encarnacion hit a two-run homerun tying the game at ten.  Gregorius hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 11-10 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh Castro hit an RBI single to tie the game at 11.  In the bottom of the ninth the Tigers walked off on an RBI single by Mercer to win the game 12-11. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

New York Mets defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks


The New York Mets defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-1.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched well and Seth Lugo closed it out.  Pete Alonso, Wilson Ramos and Amed Rosario each had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and 11 strikeouts.  deGrom earned his ninth win of the season.  Lugo saved his fifth game of the season pitching two perfect innings with four strikeouts. 

Merrill Kelly pitched six innings giving up seven hits and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Kelly lost his 14th game of the season.  Yoan Lopez pitched to one batter and got him out, Robby Scott pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Stefan Crichton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  T.J. McFarland pitched 2/3 of an inning. 

Jeff McNeil had a hit, Alonso had two hits and two RBI and Michael Conforto had a hit and drew a walk.  Ramos had two hits, Robinson Cano had a hit and Brandon Nimmo drew a walk.  Rosario had two hits and an RBI, Ramos hit a double and McNeil hit a double.  Alonso hit two homeruns and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Ramos committed an error. 

Josh Rojas had a hit, Eduardo Escobar had a hit and Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI.  Jarrod Dyson drew a walk, Flores hit a homerun and the Diamondbacks were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Dyson had a stolen base. 

In the first Alonso hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Rosario hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth Flores hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the fifth Alonso hit hits second homerun of the game to extend the lead to 3-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.   

New York Mets lose a slug fest to the Philadelphia Phillies


The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 10-7.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and he pitched ok and Wilson Ramos and Amed Rosario each had three hits to lead the offense.    

Syndergaard pitched five innings giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Paul Sewald pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run and he took his first loss of the season, Luis Avilan pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs and Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two strikeouts.  Tyler Bashlor pitched giving up a hit and a run with three walks and didn’t record an out, Daniel Zamora got out the only batter that he faced and Edwin Diaz pitched an inning with two strikeouts.  Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Vince Velasquez pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with four walks and five strikeouts.  Jared Hughes pitched to one batter and walked him, Ranger Suarez pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and won his fifth game of the season and Jose Alvarez pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk.  Mike Morin pitched 1/3 of an inning, Blake Parker pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Nick Vincent pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Hector Neris pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two and saved his 24th game of the season.

Cesar Hernandez had a hit, Jean Segura had two hits and an RBI and Corey Dickerson had a hit and two RBI.  Rhys Hoskins had two hits, Scott Kingery had a hit and two RBI and Adam Haseley had a hit and an RBI.  Phil Gosselin had a hit and an RBI, Sean Rodriguez drew a walk and Maikel Franco had two hits and two RBI.  Andrew Knapp had a hit and drew two walks, Jose Pirela had a hit and Bryce Harper had an RBI and drew a walk.  Hoskins hit two doubles and Franco hit a double.  Haseley, Franco and Kingery each hit a homerun and the Phillies were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Kingery and Segura each had a stolen base and Hernandez had two stolen bases. 

In the first Ramos hit a two-run homerun and Cano hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.  In the third Segura hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the fourth Haseley hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the fifth Dickerson hit a two-run single to give the Phillies a 4-3 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Nimmo hit an RBI single to tie the game at four.  In the sixth Gosselin hit an RBI single and Franco hit a two-run homerun to make it 7-4.  In the sixth Ramos hit an RBI ground out and Cano hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 7-6.  In the seventh Kingery hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 9-6.  Harper drew an RBI walk and it was 10-6.  In the seventh Panik hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 10-7 but that would be the final score.

New York Yankees shutout the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Monday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 5-0.  James Paxton started for the Yankees and pitched great and the offense was well balanced. 

Paxton won his 13th game of the season pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up four hits and no runs.  He walked three and struck out seven.  Zack Britton pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Cory Gearrin pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Tyler Lyons pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Eduardo Rodriguez pitched six innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Rodriguez lost his sixth game of the season.  Darwinzon Hernandez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a strikeout, Trevor Kelley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Travis Lakins pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Mike Shawaryn pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks and Colten Brewer pitched to one batter and struck him out.

Mookie Betts had a hit, Rafael Devers had a hit and drew a walk and J.D. Martinez drew a walk.  Christian Vasquez had two hits, Jackie Bradley Jr. had three hits and drew a walk.  Bradley Jr. hit a double and the Red Sox were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

In the fifth Romine hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Urshela hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  LeMahieu hit an RBI single and it was 3-0 and then Torres hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 4-0.  In the ninth Voit hit an RBI single and it was 5-0 which was the final score. 

The Yankees took three out of four in the series and will head to Detroit to begin a three-game series on Tuesday night. 

The Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 10-5.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  The Yankees bullpen did pitch well and Gleyber Torres and Edwin Encarnacion each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched four innings giving up eight hits and four runs with no walks and two strikeouts.  Chad Green pitched three perfect innings with five strikeouts and he won his third game of the season, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and Jonathan Loaisiga pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Rick Porcello pitched four innings giving up seven hits and six runs with a strikeout.  Porcello lost his 12th game of the season.  Ryan Brasier pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with one of them being earned and he struck out one, Trevor Kelley pitched to one batter and got him out and Josh Taylor pitched to one batter and struck him out.  Jhoulys Chacin pitched an inning with a walk, Josh Smith pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out two and Marcus Walden pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and Hector Velazquez pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit.

In the second Torres hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the third Judge hit an RBI single and Sanchez hit an RBI ground out to push the lead to 4-0.  In the bottom of the third Bradley Jr. hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the fourth Tauchman hit a two-run homerun and the lead was extended to 6-2.  In the bottom of the fourth Moreland hit an RBI double and Leon hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 6-4.  In the fifth Judge hit a solo homerun and Torres hit into a force out to make it 8-4.  In the eighth Betts hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 8-5.  In the ninth Encarnacion hit an RBI single and Torres hit an RBI double to make it 10-5 and that was the final score.
