The New York Mets are brought down in Colorado



The New York Mets were defeated by the Colorado Rockies on Thursday night.  The final score was 7-4 and the game took place at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and wasn't very good.  Juan Lagares and Chris Young led the offense with a couple of hits each. 

Colon pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up ten hits and seven runs.  He walked one and struck out three and lost his fourth game of the season.  Jeurys Familia pitched to one batter and struck him out, Gonzalez Germen pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out three and Jose Valverde pitched an inning striking out two. 

Juan Nicasio pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out two and earned his third win of the season.  Chad Bettis pitched two innings giving up four hits and four runs with a walk. 

Lagares had two hits and an RBI, Lucas Duda had a hit and Young had two hits.  Curtis Granderson had a hit, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and three RBI and Eric Young Jr. drew a walk.  Bobby Abreu drew a walk, Lagares hit two doubles and d'Arnaud hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Young had a stolen base, Duda committed an error and d'Arnaud had a passed ball. 

Charlie Blackmon had a hit and an RBI, Nolan Arenado had a hit and an RBI and Carlos Gonzalez had a hit and an RBI.  Troy Tulowitzki had two hits, Justin Morneau had a hit and Wilin Rosario drew a walk.  Corey Dickerson had three hits and an RBI, Charlie Culberson had a hit and Nicasio had a hit and three RBI.  Tulowitzki hit a double, Dickerson hit a triple and Gonzalez hit a homerun.  The Rockies were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the first Gonzalez hit a solo homerun to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead.  In the second Nicasio hit a two run single to give the Rockies a 3-0 lead.  In the fourth Nicasio hit a sacrifice fly, Blackmon hit an RBI single and Arenado hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0.  In the fifth Dickerson hit an RBI triple to extend the Rockies lead to 7-0.  Lagares hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 7-1 in the eighth inning and in the ninth d'Arnaud hit a three run homerun to cut the lead to 7-4 which was the final score. 

The Mets won the first of four games in this series.  The two teams will meet on Friday night in game two of the series. 

The New York Yankees lose to the Seattle Mariners and are swept



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-2.  Hiroki Kuroda started and was better but not great.  The bullpen was good and the offense didn't do much. 

Kuroda pitched six innings giving up four runs with three of them earned.  He allowed seven hits and had a walk with seven strikeouts and lost his third game of the season.  Matt Thornton pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out one and Shawn Kelley pitched a perfect inning. 

Roenis Elias started for the Mariners and pitched seven innings giving up six hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out ten and earned his second win of the season.  Yoervis Medina pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Fernando Rodney pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and an RBI, Derek Jeter had a hit and Alfonso Soriano had a hit.  Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk, Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI and Yangervis Solarte had a hit.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Brett Gardner drew a walk and Ellsbury hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Jeter committed an error. 

Michael Saunders had three hits and an RBI, Stefen Romero had a hit and Robinson Cano had a hit and two RBI.  Kyle Seager had a hit, Dustin Ackley had a hit and drew a walk and Brad Miller had a hit and an RBI.  Cano and Saunders hit a double and the Mariners were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Ackley and Saunders were caught stealing and Cano committed an error. 

Cano hit an RBI double in the first to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead.  Ellsbury hit a leadoff homerun in the bottom of the first to tie the game at one.  In the third Cano hit an RBI groundout to give the Mariners a 2-1 lead.  Miller hit an RBI single and Saunders an RBI double in the fourth.  It was 4-1 Mariners and the Yankees would score on a McCann RBI single in the sixth.  The final score was 4-2 and the Mariners swept the shortened two game series.  The Yankees will remain at home and begin a three game weekend series with the Tampa Bay Rays.  The first game will be on Friday night.

The New York Mets continue winning with victory over the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 6-1.  Jon Niese started and pitched very well.  The bullpen held the lead and the offense was led by Daniel Murphy and Ruben Tejada. 

Niese pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Niese won his second game of the season.  Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched an inning walking one and striking out one and Jose Valverde pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Cole Hamels lost his second game of the season pitching 4 2/3 innings and giving up eight hits and six runs.  He walked five and struck out three.  Roberto Hernandez pitched to one batter and struck him out, Mario Hollands pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts and Jeff Manship pitched a perfect inning.  Shawn Camp pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Daniel Murphy had three hits and an RBI and Chris Young had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, Josh Satin had a hit and an RBI and Travis d'Arnaud drew a walk.  Tejada had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Niese had an RBI and drew a walk and Tejada and Young each hit a double.  The Mets were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Murphy had a stolen base and Young Jr. committed an error. 

Chase Utley had a hit, Marlon Byrd had a hit and an RBI and Ryan Howard had two hits.  Carlos Ruiz had a hit and drew a walk, Asche drew a walk and Howard hit a double.  Byrd hit a homerun and the Phillies were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Revere had a stolen base. 

In the third Murphy hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Satin hit an RBI single in the fourth and Niese had an RBI walk to extend the lead to 3-0.  Byrd hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the fifth Young hit an RBI double and Tejada hit a two run single to make it a 6-1 game and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play on Wednesday after a rainout on Tuesday.

The New York Yankees blow a 2-0 lead and lose 6-3 to Cano and the Seattle Mariners



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-3.  CC Sabathia started and pitched ok, he had one bad inning although he wasn't helped by his defense.  The offense didn't do much but Brett Gardner and Ichiro Suzuki each had two hits. 

Sabathia pitched 5 innings giving up four runs on nine hits.  He walked none and struck out six but took his third loss of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with four strikeouts, Preston Claiborne pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and had a strikeout and Chris Leroux pitched an inning with two hits and had a strikeout. 

Chris Young pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with one earned.  He walked three and struck out three and won his first game. Charlie Furbush pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and had a strikeout, Danny Farquhar pitched an inning giving up a hit and had two strikeouts and Fernando Rodney pitched an inning giving up three hits and one run with three strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had two hits and an RBI, Derek Jeter had a hit and Mark Teixeira had a hit and an RBI.  Yangervis Solarte had a hit and drew a walk, Ichiro Suzuki had two hits and drew one walk and Brian Roberts had a hit and drew a walk.  Solarte and Roberts hit a double, Teixeira hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base. 

Abraham  Almonte had a hit, Robinson Cano had a hit and an RBI and Corey Hart had a hit and two RBI.  Justin Smoak had two hits and an RBI, Cole Gillespie had a hit and Dustin Ackley had two hits and an RBI.  Kyle Seager had a hit, Mike Zunino had four hits and an RBI and Willie Bloomquist had two hits.  Gillespie and Hart each hit a double.  The Mariners were 5-18 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Seager and Cano each had a stolen base.  Zunino and Smoak committed an error each. 

In the second Teixeira hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Roberts scored on a throwing error by the catcher to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth Cano had an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 2-1.  Hart hit a two run double to give the Mariners a 3-2 lead and then they added another run on a Smoak RBI single.  In the seventh Ackley hit an RBI single to give the Mariners a 5-2 lead.  Zunino hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-2.  In the ninth Gardner hit an RBI single to make it a 6-3 game which was the final.  The two teams will play game two on Wednesday night weather permitting and then finish the series on Thursday night. 

The New York Mets shutout the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-0.  Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched great, the Mets only had six hits and no player had more than one.  Chris Young did hit a two run homerun. 

Gee pitched eight innings to pick up his second win of the season.  He gave up three hits and no runs with four walks and six strikeouts.  Carlos Torres pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Koehler pitched five innings giving up five hits and four runs with four walks and two strikeouts.  Koehler lost his second game of the season.  Capps pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts and Hand pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out one. 

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, David Wright had a hit and an RBI and Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk.  Young had a hit and two RBI, Lucas Duda had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Anthony Recker had a hit.  Ruben Tejada had a hit, Gee drew a walk and Duda and Wright each hit a double.  Young hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Murphy had a stolen base. 

Yelich drew a walk, Ozuna had a hit and Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk.  Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a hit and drew two walks, Garrett Jones had a hit and the Marlins were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Jones committed an error. 

In the second inning Duda hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Wright hit an RBI double and Young hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 4-0 lead and that would be the final score.  The Mets won two out of three in the series and will start a three game series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night in Philadelphia.

The New York Yankees defeat the Anaheim Angels by a run



The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Sunday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started and didn't have the command he has shown thus far.  He still pitched well though and had a lot of strikeouts.  The bullpen was outstanding and Mark Teixeira hit a homerun. 

Tanaka pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up two runs and five hits.  He walked four and struck out 11.   Adam Warren picked up his first win of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up one hit and struck out two and David Robertson pitched an inning walking one and striking out two to pick up his fourth save of the season. 

Garrett Richards pitched seven innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Michael Kohn lost his first game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning, he gave up an unearned run with two walks and a strikeout and Kevin Jepsen pitched 2/3 of an inning retiring both batters that he faced. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Carlos Beltran drew two walks and Mark Teixeira had a hit, an RBI an drew a walk.  Kelly Johnson had a hit, Brian Roberts had a hit and Ichiro Suzuki had an RBI.  Roberts hit a double and Teixeira hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Collin Cowgill had a hit, Mike Trout had two hits and Albert Pujols drew a walk.  Howie Kendrick had a hit and drew a walk, Erick Aybar had a hit and David Freese had a hit and an RBI.  Chris Ianetta drew three walks and J.B. Shuck had an RBI.  Cowgill and Aybar each hit a double, Kendrick hit a triple and Freese hit a homerun.  The Angels were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Richards committed an error and Iannetta had a passed ball. 

In the fourth Shuck grounded into a force out scoring a run and giving the Angels a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Suzuki had an RBI groundout to tie the game at one.  In the sixth Freese hit a solo homerun to give the Angels a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh Teixeira hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  In the eighth a wild pitch scored a run to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  The game would end with the Yankees winning 3-2. 

The Yankees took two out of three in the series and will begin a series with the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.  It will be the return of their former second baseman Robinson Cano.

The New York Mets lose in extras to the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Saturday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-6 in ten innings.  Jenrry Mejia started for the Mets and wasn't very good, the bullpen was pretty good.  The Mets had only six hits and no one had more than one hit.  Bobby Abreu did hit his first homerun in years. 

Mejia pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and six runs.  He had one walk and six strikeouts.  Carlos Torres pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout and Scott Rice pitched 2/3 of an inning retiring both batters.  Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two walks and striking out two and Kyle Farnsworth took the loss pitching an ining and giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Kevin Slowey pitched four innings giving up five hits nad five runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Brad Hand pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Dan Jennings pitched two innings giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and a strikeout and Mike Dunn earned his second win of the season.  He pitched two perfect innings with four strikeouts and Steve Cishek saved his fifth game of the season.  He pitched an inning walking one and striking out one. 

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Curtis Granderson drew a walk and David Wright had an RBI and drew a walk.  Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk, Abreu had a hit and two RBI and Lucas Duda had a hit and two RBI.  Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and drew a walk, Omar Quintanilla had a hit and d'Arnaud hit a double.  Abreu hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Young Jr. had a stolen base. 

Marcell Ozuna had a hit and drew two walks, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and two RBI and Casey McGehee had three hits.  Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Garrett Jones had a hit.  Derek Dietrich had a hit and an RBI, Adeiny Hechavarria  had a hit and an RBI and Reed Johnson had a hit and two RBI.  Donovan Solano drew a walk, Ozuna and Johnson hit a double and Stanton and Saltalamacchia hit a homerun.  The Marlins were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Saltalamacchia and Hechavarria each committed an error and Saltalamacchia had a passed ball. 

Wright hit a sacrifice fly in the first to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Abreu hit a two run homerun to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the second Dietrich hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the third Duda hit a two run single to give the Mets a 5-1 lead.  In the sixth Stanton hit a two run homerun to cut the lead to 5-3.  Hechavarria hit an RBI single to get the Marlins within a run at 5-4.  Johnson hit a two run double in the sixth to give the Marlins a 6-5 lead.  The Mets tied the game in the sixth on a Quintanilla RBI single.  In the tenth Saltalamacchia hit a solo homerun to give the Marlins a 7-6 lead and that was the final score. 

The two teams will play the final game of their series on Sunday afternoon.   

The New York Yankees hold off the Anaheim Angels



The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3.  Vidal Nuno was ok but not great and the bullpen was excellent.  John Ryan Murphy led the offense with a couple of hits including his first major league homerun. 

Nuno pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up three runs on five hits.  He walked two and struck out four.  Dellin Betances got his first major league win pitching two innings.  He gave up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts, Shawn Kelley pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout and Matt Thornton pitched to one batter and retired him.  David Robertson earned his third save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit with two strikeouts. 

Hector Santiago took the loss his fourth of the season.  He pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Kevin Jepsen pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one, Nick Maronde pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and had a strikeout and Michael Kohn pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out one.  Ernesto Frieri pitched a perfect inning.

Collin Cowgill had a hit, Mike Trout had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks and Albert Pujols had two hits.  Howie Kendrick drew a walk, Chris Iannetta had two hits and an RBI and Ian Stewart had  a hit and drew a walk.  David Freese had a hit, Iannetta hit a double, Trout hit a homerun and the Angels were 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Trout had a stolen base. 

In the first inning Trout hit a solo homerun to give the Angels a 1-0 lead.  In the second Teixeira scored on a balk and then Murphy hit a two run single to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead.  In the fourth the Angels came back to tie the game at three.  Erick Aybar grounded into a force out which scored a run and Iannetta hit an RBI double.  In the fifth Murphy hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play the rubber game of their three game series on Sunday night.
