New York Yankees blow lead and lose to the Chicago White Sox


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night.  The game took place at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 5-4.  J.A. Happ started for the Yankees and he started out great but then fell apart in one bad fifth inning.  The Yankees bullpen was ok and Clint Frazier led the offense with three hits. 

Happ pitched five innings giving up five hits and four runs.  He walked four and struck out two.  Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two, Adam Ottavino pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and he lost his second game of the season and Jonathan Holder pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out one. 

Ivan Nova pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Josh Osich pitched to one batter and got him out, Evan Marshall pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and won his second game of the season and Kelvin Herrera pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out three.  Aaron Bummer pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and picked up his first save of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu drew a walk, Gregorius had two hits and Torres had two hits and drew a walk.  Brett Gardner had a hit and two RBI, Frazier had three hits an RBI and Mike Tauchman had a hit.  Frazier hit a double, Gardner hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Frazier was caught stealing. 

Leury Garcia had two hits and two RBI, Tim Anderson had two hits and three RBI and Jose Abreu had two hits.  James McCann drew a walk, Eloy Jimenez drew two walks and Yonder Alonso drew a walk.  Jose Rondon drew a walk, Yolmer Sanchez drew two walks and Ryan Cordell had a hit.  Garcia and Abreu each hit a double and Anderson and Garcia each hit a homerun.  The White Sox were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Anderson committed an error. 

In the second a wild pitch scored a run and Frazier hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Gardner hit a two-run homerun to push the Yankees lead to 4-0.  In the fifth Garcia hit an RBI double and Anderson hit a three-run homerun to tie the game at four.  In the seventh Garcia hit a solo homerun to give the White Sox a 5-4 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will meet in game two of four on Friday night.

New York Yankees drop game two to the New York Mets


The New York Yankees were defeated by the New York Mets on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-4.  James Paxton started for the Yankees and he was terrible.  Chance Adams gave them some innings but wasn’t great and DJ LeMahieu, Gary Sanchez, Gleyber Torres and Brett Gardner each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Paxton pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and six runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Paxton lost his third game of the season.  Adams pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with two being earned.  He walked three and struck out three, Luis Cessa pitched a perfect inning and Stephen Tarpley pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts. 

Jason Vargas won his third game of the season pitching six innings giving up seven hits and three runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Seth Lugo pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts and Drew Gagnon pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run. 

LeMahieu had two hits, Luke Voit had a hit and drew a walk and Sanchez had two hits.  Torres had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Clint Frazier had an RBI and Gio Urshela had an RBI.  Austin Romine drew a walk, Gardner had two hits and an RBI and Gardner hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Urshela committed an error. 

Jeff McNeil had two hits, J.D. Davis had two hits and two RBI and Pete Alonso had a hit, three RBI and drew two walks.  Todd Frazier drew two walks, Michael Conforto had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Wilson Ramos had a hit and an RBI.  Amed Rosario had a hit and an RBI, Adeiny Hechavarria had a hit and an RBI and Carlos Gomez had two hits and an RBI.  Rosario and McNeil each hit a double and Alonso, Gomez and Davis each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 6-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the first Alonso hit a three-run homerun to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.  In the third Conforto hit an RBI single to push the Mets lead to 4-0.  Ramos hit an RBI single, Hechavarria hit an RBI single and it was 6-0.  In the third Torres hit an RBI single, Frazier hit an RBI ground out and Urshela hit into a force out to cut the lead to 6-3.  In the fourth Davis hit a two-run homerun pushing the Mets lead to 8-3.  In the fifth Gomez hit a solo homerun and the Mets lead was extended to 9-3.  In the ninth Rosario hit an RBI double to make it 10-3 and in the bottom of the ninth Gardner hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 10-4 but that would be the final score. 

The two teams split the double header and the brief two-game series and will both be off on Wednesday.  The Yankees will head to Chicago to take on the White Sox in a four-game series beginning on Thursday night.  The Mets will be at home to begin a four-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals.   

New York Yankees defeat the New York Mets in Game 1 of double header


The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets on Tuesday afternoon in game one of a day/night double header.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 12-5.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  Kendrys Morales and Gio Urshela led the offense with three hits each. 

Tanaka pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs with four being earned.  He walked none and struck out seven and won his fourth game of the season.  Tommy Khanle pitched to one batter and struck him out and David Hale pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out one. 

Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up ten hits and nine runs with five being earned.  He walked one and struck out six and lost his fourth game of the season.  Wilmer Font pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Tim Peterson pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk. 

Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew a walk, Luke Voit had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had two hits and three RBI.  Didi Gregorius had two hits, Clint Frazier had a hit and Morales had three hits and an RBI.  Urshela had three hits and four RBI, Brett Gardner had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Hicks, Frazier, Gregorius, Urshela and Morales each hit a double and Gardner hit a triple.  Sanchez, Urshela and Voit each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 6-16 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Hicks had a stolen base and Sanchez, Gregorius and Morales each committed an error. 

Jeff McNeil had two hits and three RBI, Michael Conforto had a hit and Dom Smith had a hit.  J.D. Davis had a hit, Amed Rosario had a hit and an RBI, Tomas Nido had two hits and Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI.  Smith hit a double, McNeil hit a homerun and the Mets were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Frazier and Rosario each committed an error and Davis had an outfield assist. 

In the second Morales hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Lagares hit an RBI single, McNeil hit a three-run homerun and the Mets grabbed a 4-1 lead.  In the bottom of the third Sanchez hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the bottom of the fourth Urshela hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at four.  Voit hit a three-run homerun to make it a 7-4 game for the Yankees.  In the fifth Urshela hit an RBI single to push their lead to 8-4.  Gardner hit an RBI triple and it was a 9-4 game.  In the sixth Rosario hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 9-5.  In the seventh Urshela hit an RBI double to extend the Yankees lead to 10-5 and in the eighth Sanchez hit a two-run homerun to make it a 12-5 game which would be the final score.

New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians to salvage series


The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 7-6.  Chad Green served as the opener and pitched well and the bullpen mostly did a good job with a couple of guys not doing their job.  DJ LeMahieu, Luke Voit, Clint Frazier and Cameron Maybin each had two hits to lead the Yankees offense. 

Green pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.  Nestor Cortes Jr. pitched three perfect innings with two strikeouts, Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up four hits and four runs with a strikeout and Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run.  Zack Britton pitched an inning giving up a walk, Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and a strikeout and he picked up his first win of the season after blowing his second save of the season.  Stephen Tarpley picked up his first save of the season pitching a perfect inning with three strikeouts. 

Shane Bieber pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up five hits and five runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  A.J. Cole pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three walks, Nick Goody pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and two walks with three strikeouts and Tyler Clippard pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Tyler Olson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and two strikeouts, Adam Cimber pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Oliver Perez lost his first game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

LeMahieu had two hits and an RBI, Aaron Hicks had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Voit had two hits and two RBI and drew a walk and Gray Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk.  Gleyber Torres drew a walk, Frazier had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Brett Gardner had a hit and two RBI.  Gio Urshela drew four walks, Maybin had two hits and Hicks, Sanchez, Frazier, Maybin and Voit each hit a double.  Gardner hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Frazier was caught stealing and Gregorius and Chapman each committed an error. 

Oscar Mercado had a hit, Carlos Santana had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Mike Freeman had a hit and two RBI.  Jose Ramirez had two hits, Roberto Perez drew two walks and Jake Bauers had a hit and an RBI.  Leonys Martin had a hit and an RBI including a homerun, Freeman and Bauers each hit a homerun and the Indians were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Ramirez had a stolen base. 

In the second Gardner hit a two-run homerun and LeMahieu hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  Voit hit a two-run double and it was 5-0.  In the sixth Martin hit a solo homerun, Santana hit an RBI single and Freeman hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 5-4.  In the seventh Bauers hit a solo homerun to tie the game at five.  In the ninth Frazier hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 6-5 lead.  In the bottom of the ninth Lindor reached on an error and a run scored to tie the game at six.  In the tenth Hicks hit an RBI double to give the Yankees back the lead at 7-6 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees salvaged one game and ended a rough road trip at 2-4.  They will return home for a brief two game series with the New York Mets.

New York Mets defeat the Colorado Rockies to even up series


The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-3.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and he pitched well, the bullpen did a good job and Wilson Ramos, Todd Frazier and Carlos Gomez each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Matz won his fifth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up six hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out ten.  Seth Lugo pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts and Edwin Diaz picked up his 14th save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Jon Gray pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with three walks and eight strikeouts.  He lost his fifth game of the season.  Jake McGee pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Carlos Estevez pitched 1 1/3 innings with a walk and a strikeout. 

Jeff McNeil had a hit, Pete Alonso had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Michael Conforto drew two walks.  Ramos had two hits, Frazier had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Gomez had two hits and two RBI.  J.D. Davis had a hit, Ramos and Davis each hit a double.  Alonso and Gomez each hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Frazier committed an error. 

Charlie Blackmon had a hit and an RBI, Trevor Story had a hit and Nolan Arenado  had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Ian Desmond had a hit, Brendan Rodgers had a hit and Tony Wolters had two hits and drew a walk.  The Rockies were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Arenado and Desmond each had a stolen base. 

In the second Gomez hit a two-run homerun giving the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the third Blackmon hit an RBI single and Arenado hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the third Frazier hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 3-2 lead.  In the fourth Wolters hit an RBI single to tie the game at three.  In the sixth Rosario hit into a double play but a run scored giving the Mets a 4-3 lead.  In the seventh Alonso hit a solo homerun to push the Mets lead to 5-3 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Sunday afternoon. 


New York Mets drop one to the Colorado Rockies


The New York Mets were defeated by the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-1.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Michael Conforto and Dom Smith each had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and ten strikeouts.  deGrom lost his sixth game of the season.  Robert Gsellman pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts, Drew Gagnon pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a strikeout and Wilmer Font pitched to one batter and got him out.  Hector Santiago pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Antonio Senzatela pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and he won his fifth game of the season.  Bryan Shaw pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Scott Oberg pitched an inning with a strikeout and Wade Davis pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one. 

Conforto had two hits and an RBI, Smith had two hits and drew a walk and Todd Frazier had a hit.  Amed Rosario had a hit, deGrom drew a walk and Rosario and Smith each hit a double.  Conforto hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Lagares committed an error. 

Raimel Tapia had two hits and an RBI, Trevor Story had two hits and David Dahl had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Daniel Murphy had two hits and an RBI, Ian Desmond had a hit and an RBI, Tony Wolters had a hit.  Story hit two doubles, Tapia hit a double and Murphy and Dahl each hit a homerun.  The Rockies were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Tapia had a stolen base and Dahl was caught stealing.  Rodgers committed an error. 

In the third Tapia hit an RBI double to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Desmond hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the sixth Conforto hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the eighth Dahl hit a two-run homerun to push the Rockies lead to 4-1.  Murphy hit a solo homerun and it was 5-1 which was the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday. 

New York Yankees suffer another defeat in Cleveland


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 8-4.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he was ok.  The Yankees bullpen wasn’t good and DJ LeMahieu and Didi Gregorius led the offense with two hits each. 

Sabathia pitched five innings giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Sabathia lost his third game of the season.  Jonathan Holder pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with two strikeouts and Luis Cessa pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Adam Plutko pitched six innings giving up three hits and two runs with four strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season.  Oliver Perez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs, Adam Cimber pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and Nick Wittgren pitched an inning with a walk.  Brad Hand pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.

Francisco Lindor had two hits, Oscar Mercado had two hits and two RBI and Carlos Santana had a hit.  Jordan Luplow had two hits and drew a walk, Jose Ramirez had an RBI and drew a walk and Roberto Perez had two hits and three RBI.  Jason Kipnis had two hits, Kevin Plawecki had a hit and two RBI and Mercado, Luplow, Lindor and Perez each hit a double.  Mercado, Plawecki and Perez each hit a homerun.  The Indians were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Perez committed an error. 

In the first Gregorius hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Ramirez hit a sac fly and Luplow hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  In the fifth Mercado hit a two-run homerun to give the Indians a 4-2 lead.  In the sixth Perez hit a two-run homerun pushing the Indians lead to 6-2.  Plawecki hit a solo homerun and the lead was 7-2.  In the seventh Torres hit an RBI double and Urshela hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 7-4.  In the eighth Plawecki hit a sac fly to make it 8-4 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have lost four out of their last five and will try and avoid a three-game sweep on Sunday afternoon. 

New York Yankees lose to the Cleveland Indians


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Friday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 5-2.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he was just ok.  Didi Gregorius and Clint Frazier each had two hits to lead the Yankees offense. 

German pitched six innings giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  German lost his second game of the season.  David Hale pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Zach Plesac pitched seven innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Plesac won his first game of the season.  Nick Wittgren pitched a perfect inning and Brad Hand recorded his 19th save of the season pitching a perfect inning with three strikeouts.

Francisco Lindor had a hit, Oscar Mercado had two hits and Carlos Santana had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks.  Jason Kipnis had two hits and two RBI, Tyler Naquin had a hit and an RBI.  Lindor hit a triple and Naquin and Santana each hit a homerun.  The Indians were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Kipnis was caught stealing and Naquin had an outfield assist.
