The New York Yankees lose to the New York Mets and Subway series ends in a split



The New York Yankees were defeated by the New York Mets on Thursday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-1.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and he pitched ok really having one bad inning.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched really well.  Jay Bruce led the Mets with a three run homerun and Gary Sanchez had two hits for the Yankees. 

Eovaldi pitched seven innings giving up four runs on five hits.  He walked two and struck out five and lost his eighth game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Anthony Swarzak pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Colon pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and a run with no walks and a strikeout.  Colon won his tenth game of the season.  Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and saved his 38th game of the season. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits, Chase Headley had a hit and Brian McCann had a hit.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Didi Gregorius had a hit and Sanchez had two hits.  Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI, Sanchez hit a double and the Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, Alejandro De Aza drew a walk and Neil Walker had a hit.  Bruce had a hit and three RBI, James Loney had a hit and Travis d'Arnaud had a hit.  Kelly Johnson had a hit and an RBI, Granderson hit a double and Johnson and Bruce hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the fifth Johnson hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Bruce hit a three run homerun and it was 4-0 Mets.  The Yankees scored their only run in the seventh on a Hicks RBI single and 4-1 would be the final score. 

The two teams  split the four games, two games splits at Citi Field and here at Yankee Stadium.  The Mets head to Detroit for a three game weekend series and the Yankees remain at home to take on the Cleveland Indians.

New York Yankees beat the New York Mets in a very spirited game



The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-5.  Chad Green started and he didn't pitch very well for the Yankees but Luis Severino was great in relief.  Mark Teixeira had a homerun and was involved in a couple of other heated plays such as getting plunked and the benches clearing and then Hansel Robles thinking he was stealing signs.  Rob Refsnyder had two hits and Gary Sanchez his first major league hit.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and didn't pitch very well. 

Green pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs with four walks and two strikeouts.  Severino pitched 4 1/3 innings and earned his first victory of the season.  He gave up a hit and an unearned run and walked one and struck out five.  Tyler Clippard pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Matz lost his eighth game of the season pitching six innings giving up six hits and six runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Robles pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and a strikeout, Josh Edgin pitched to one batter and walked him and Erik Goeddel pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up no hits or runs and he struck out a batter. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Refsnyder had two hits and an RBI and Teixeira had a hit, three RBI and drew two walks.  Chase Headley had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Starlin Castro had a hit and an RBI and Didi Gregorius had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Sanchez had a hit, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Headley, Gregorius and Hicks each hit a double.  Teixeira hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Ellsbury and Headley each committed an error. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit an RBI and drew three walks, Neil Walker had four hits and an RBI and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit.  Jay Bruce drew a walk, James Loney had two hits and two RBI and Michael Conforto drew a walk.  Kelly Johnson had a hit, Rene Rivera had a hit and an RBI, Johnson hit a double.  Granderson and Walker each hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Flores committed an error. 

In the first Granderson hit a solo homerun and Loney hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Headley hit a two run double and Gregorius hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  Rivera hit an RBI single in the second to tie the game at three.  In the bottom of the second Teixeira hit a three run homerun that gave the Yankees a 6-3 lead.  Loney hit an RBI groundout in the seventh to cut the lead to 6-4.  Refsnyder hit a sac fly to make it 7-4 in the bottom of the seventh.  Castro hit an RBI single int he seventh to push the lead to 8-4 and Gregorius had an RBI walk to make it 9-4.  Walker hit a solo homerun in the ninth to cut the lead to 9-5 and that was the final score. 

The two teams will play their final game of the four in a row on Thursday night.  The Yankees have won two of the three games in this series.

New York Yankees get hammered by the New York Mets



The New York Yankees were defeated by the New York Mets on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he didn't pitch very well.  The Yankees only managed to six hits and no one had more than a hit.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and pitched well and he also had two hits.  Michael Conforto also had two hits. 

Tanaka pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and seven runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  He lost his fourth game of the season.  Richard Bleier pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he struck out a batter and Anthony Swarzak pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

deGrom won his  seventh game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and no runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Jon Niese pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew two walks and Brian McCann had a hit.  Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI, Starlin Castro had a hit and Aaron Hicks had a hit.  Teixeira hit a double and Gregorius a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Gardner committed an error. 

Alejandro De Aza had a hit and two RBI, Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and an RBI and Neil Walker had a hit and an RBI.  James Loney had a hit, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Michael Conforto had two hits and an RBI.  Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and an RBI, Matt Reynolds had a hit and an RBI and deGrom had two hits.  Conforto and Walker each hit a double and De Aza and d'Arnaud each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the third De Aza hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth d'Arnaud hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the seventh Conforto hit an RBI double, Reynolds hit an RBI single, Cespedes hit an RBI single and Walker hit an RBI double and it was 7-0 Mets.  In the ninth Gregorius hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 7-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will shift their series to Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night and they will play two games there.

New York Yankees become sellers and then go out and beat the New York Mets



The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets  on Monday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-5.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he didn't pitch very well but the bullpen did.  Logan Verrett started for the Mets and pitched pretty well and their bullpen blew the lead.  The Yankees offense was led by Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner who had two hits each and the Mets by Matt Reynolds who had a big three run homerun. 

Sabathia pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and five runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  Richard Bleier gave up a hit and a walk without recording an out, Nick Goody retired the only batter that he faced and Tyler Clippard pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Adam Warren won his fourth game of the season pitching two innings and not giving up a hit or a run and he walked one and struck out two.  Dellin Betances earned his first save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Verrett pitched five innings giving up four hits and three runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Erik Goeddel pitched a perfect inning, Hansel Robles pitched an inning striking out one and Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a run and a walk with a strikeout.  Addison Reed pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Seth Lugo pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and he took his first loss of the season. 

Gardner had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Ellsbury had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit, Didi Gregorius  had a hit and two RBI and Starlin Castro had an RBI and drew a walk.  Rob Refsnyder drew a walk, Austin Romine drew a walk and Ellsbury and Gardner each hit a double.  Gardner hit a triple and the Yankees were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Castro and Romine each had a passed ball. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, Michael Conforto had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Wilmer Flores had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Travis d'Arnaud had two hits, James Loney had two hits and Reynolds had two hits and three RBI.  Alejandro De Aza drew a walk, Brandon Nimmo had a hit and Steven Matz drew a walk.  Reynolds, Conforto and Loney each hit a double and Flores and Reynolds each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  De Aza committed an error and Granderson had an outfield assist. 

In the second Flores hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth a wild pitch tied the game at one.  In the fifth Gardner hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  Ellsbury hit an RBI single in the fifth and it was 3-1 Yankees.  Conforto hit an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 3-2.  Reynolds hit a three run homerun in the sixth and the Mets took a 5-3 lead.  In the eighth Gregorius hit a two run single to tie the game at five and then in the tenth Castro hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 6-5 lead which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of four on Tuesday night and the last game at Citi Field between the two teams.  They will then shift to Yankee Stadium for games on Wednesday and Thursday night.

New York Mets lose third straight to the Colorado Rockies



The New York Mets were defeated by the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New  York and the final score was 7-2.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and he didn't pitch very well.  Kelly Johnson had two of the teams six hits. 

Colon pitched five innings giving up seven hits and five runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  He took his sixth loss of the season.  Seth Lugo pitched three innings giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts and Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

Jorge De La Rosa earned his seventh win of the season pitching six innings and giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Boone Logan pitched a perfect inning, Jordan Lyles pitched a perfect inning and Gonzalez Germen pitched a perfect inning. 

Neil Walker had a hit, Yoenis Cespedes drew a walk and Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI.  Asdrubal Cabrera drew a walk, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and Justin Ruggiano had a hit.  Johnson had two hits and an RBI and the Mets were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Walker had a stolen base and Ruggiano was caught stealing.  Flores, Cabrera and Ruggiano each committed an error. 

Charlie Blackmon had two hits and drew a walk, D.J. LeMahieu had a hit and three RBI and Nolan Arenado had a hit and an RBI.  Carlos Gonzalez had a hit and drew a walk, Trevor Story had a hit and an RBI and David Dahl had a hit and two RBI.  Nick Hundley had a hit, Daniel Descalso drew a walk and Ryan Raburn had a hit.  Gonzalez hit a double and Blackmon hit two doubles and Dahl hit a homerun.  The Rockies were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the first Flores hit an RBI single, in the second Johnson hit an RBI single  and it was 2-0 Mets.  Story hit an RBI single in the fourth to cut the lead to 2-1.  Dahl hit a two run  homerun to give the Rockies a 3-2 lead in the fourth.  LeMahieu hit a two run single to make it 5-2 in the fifth.  In the seventh LeMahieu hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 6-2.  Arenado hit a sac fly making it 7-2 in the seventh. 

The Mets lost three straight to the Rockies and will try and avoid the sweep on Sunday afternoon.  They will finish their series and then stay home for two with the Yankees before heading to Yankee Stadium for two.    

New York Yankees get swept in Tampa Bay after trading their closer



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 5-3.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he didn't pitch that well, Luis Severino pitched well out of relief once again.  Brett Gardner and Carlos Beltran each had two hits. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up six hits and five runs with four walks and eight strikeouts.  He took his tenth loss of the season.  Severino pitched two hitless and scoreless innings.  He walked a batter and struck out two. 

Blake Snell pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with three walks and nine strikeouts.  He won his third game of the season.  Xavier Cedeno pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk, Brad Boxberger pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two and Erasmo Ramirez pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run.  Alex Colome pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and saved his 25th game of the season. 

Gardner had two hits and drew a walk, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk and Beltran had two hits and two RBI.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Brian McCann had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk.  Rob Refsnyder had a hit, Beltran hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Brad Miller had a hit and an RBI, Corey Dickerson had two hits and drew a walk and Steven Souza Jr. had two hits.  Kevin Kiermaier had an RBI and drew two walks, Tim Beckham had an RBI and drew two walks and Nick Franklin drew two walks.  Luke Maile had a hit and two RBI, Dickerson hit a double and Souza Jr. hit two doubles.  Miller hit a homerun and the Rays were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Kiermaier had a stolen base, Longoria committed an error. 

In the fourth Kiermaier hit an RBI groundout to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  Beckham hit an RBI groundout and it was 2-0 Rays.  Miller hit a solo homerun in the fifth to extend the lead to 3-0.  Beltran hit a two run homerun in the sixth to cut the lead to 3-2 Rays.  Maile hit a two run single in the sixth to push the lead to 5-2 Rays.  McCann hit an RBI single in the eighth to cut the lead to 5-3 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have now lost four in a row and were swept in this three game series.  They will head home but play at Citi Field for two games against the Mets beginning on Monday night and then two games at Yankee Stadium against the Mets on Wednesday and Thursday.   

New York Yankees drop second straight to the Tampa Bay Rays

Eovaldi pitched six innings giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  He lost his seventh game of the season.  Swarzak pitched an inning giving up three hits dna three runs, Richard Bleier gave up a hit and didn't record an out and Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Drew Smyly won his third game of the season pitching six innings and giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Matt Andriese pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Alex Colome pitched a perfect inning striking out the side and earning his 24th save of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Mark Teixeira had a hit and Starlin Castro had a hit.  Headley had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Castro hit a double and Gardner and Headley each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Brad Miller had two hits and an RBI, Steve Pearce drew a walk and Kevin Kiermaier had a hit and drew a walk.  Steven Souza Jr. had a hit and an RBI, Tim Beckham had two hits and two RBI and Curt Casali had a hit and two RBI.  Kiermaier hit a double and Miller and Casali each hit a homerun.  The Rays were 1-1 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Kiermaier had a stolen base and Pearce was caught stealing.  Casali committed an error. 

In the first Miller hit a solo homerun to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  Gardner hit a two run homerun in the third to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  Casali hit a two run homerun in the third to give the Rays back the lead at 3-2.  In the seventh Souza Jr. hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-2.  Beckham hit a two run homerun in the seventh and it was 6-2 Rays.  Headley hit a solo homerun in the eighth and the score was 6-3 which would end up being the final score. 

The two teams will play the third and final game on Sunday afternoon.  The Yankees are now 2-3 on their current eight game road trip with the last two being at Citi Field in New York against the Mets.
