New York Yankees lose to the Toronto Blue Jays 10-6

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon.  The

game took place at Steinbrenner Field and the final score was 10-6.  Chris Leroux started the game

on a day when the Yankees named Michael Pineda their fifth starter.  The Yankees used a whole

bunch of pitchers to get through the game.  Derek Jeter had a hit and drew a walk, Carlos Beltran

had two hits and two RBI and Kelly Johnson had a hit and a couple of RBI. 

Leroux pitched three innings giving up five hits and two runs.  Matt Daley retired the only batter that he faced, Fred Lewis pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and Preston Claiborne didn't record an out and gave up four hits and six runs with a walk.  Claiborne got charged with the loss and then even worse got optioned to the minor leagues.  Jim Miller gave up a hit in a scoreless inning, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Danny Burawa pitched an inning giving up a hit and two walks.  Yoshinori Tateyama pitched a scoreless inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Brett Gardner drew two walks, Jeter had a hit and drew a walk and Scott Sizemore had a hit.  Beltran had two hits and two RBI, Alfonso Soriano had a hit and an RBI and Johnson had a hit and two RBI.  Yangervis Solarte had a hit, Brian Roberts had a hit and Adonis Garcia had a hit.  Dean Anna had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Anna, Beltran and Garcia each hit a double.  The Yankees were 5-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

The Yankees will travel to Bradenton to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday afternoon.  CC Sabathia will make his final start in a tuneup before the season opener next Tuesday night in Houston.

The New York Mets lose 7-3 to the Washington Nationals

The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Tuesday afternoon.  The final

score was 7-3 and the game took place in Viera, Florida at Space Coast Stadium.  Zach Wheeler

started for the Mets and was roughed up a bit.  The bullpen pitched pretty well for the Mets.  The

Mets offense managed six hits but no one had more than one hit. 

Wheeler pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up five hits and five runs with three walks and a strikeout.  He was charged with the loss his second of the spring.  Vic Black pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Scott Rice pitched an inning giving up a three hits and a run with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched two innings giving up a hit and three walks with a strikeout.  Bobby Parnell pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, RBI and drew a walk, Juan Lagares had a hit and David Wright had a hit and an RBI.  Josh Satin had  ahit, Andrew Brown had a hit and Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and an RBI.  Young hit a triple and d'Arnaud hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and they left four men on base.  The Mets will play at the Houston Astros on Wednesday evening.   

New York Yankees lose 6-0 to the Philadelphia Phillies

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.  The final score

was 6-0 and the game took place at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.  Adam Warren got the

start but it was a bullpen day as the Yankees used nine pitchers.  They used each for one inning as

they are looking to fill out their bullpen.  The winner of the fifth starter competition was announced

earlier and it was Michael Pineda so today was a day of the relievers.  Brett Gardner shined on

offense with three hits and Derek Jeter had a hit. 

Adam Warren, David Phelps, Vidal Nuno, David Robertson, Matt Thornton, Shane Greene, Shawn Kelley, David Herndon and Matt Daley all pitched.  Phelps was charged with the loss giving up a hit and a run.  Nuno gave up two hits and two runs and Greene gave up three hits and two runs.  Daley also gave up two hits and a run.  Robertson gave up a walk but that was it, Warren gave up two walks but no runs and had a strikeout and Thornton pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Gardner had three hits, Yangervis Solarte drew a walk and Jeter had a hit.  Dean Anna had a hit, Carlos Beltran had a hit and Kelly Johnson had a hit.  Scott Sizemore had a hit, Brian Roberts had a hit and the Yankees were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and they left ten men on base.  Johnson committed two errors and Sizemore also committed one.  Gardner had an outfield assist.  The Yankees will play in Dunedin against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon.

The New York Mets lose to the Atlanta Braves 4-1

The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon.  The final score was

4-1 and the game took place at the Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.  Carlos Torres

started for the Mets and was ok.  Matt den Dekker and Omar Quintanilla had the only two hits of

the game for the Mets. 

Torres pitched four innings giving up six hits and two runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out four.  Carreno pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts, Sattenwhite pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Socolovich pitched an inning giving up a hit with a strikeout. 

Juan Lagares drew a walk, Josh Satin drew a walk and den Dekker had a hit.  Quintanilla had a hit, den Dekker hit a double.  The Mets were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  The Mets will play at home on Monday afternoon against the St. Louis Cardinals.

New York Yankees lose 3-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.  The final

score was 3-1 and the game took place at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.  Michael Pineda

started for most likely the last time before being named the fifth starter.  He has had a great spring

and showed that he is healthy.  He pitched pretty well on Sunday but not as great as he has been. 

The offense was led by Brett Gardner and Carlos Beltran who each had two hits. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up three runs, two of them earned.  He gave up six hits with no walks and two strikeouts.  Chris Leroux retired the only batter that he faced, Cesar Cabral gave up a hit and walked two without recording an out and Dellin Betances retired both batters that he faced, one by a strikeout.  Danny Burawa pitched a perfect inning and Jim Miller gave up a hit in a scoreless inning. 

Gardner had two hits, Beltran had two hits and Zelous Wheeler drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit, Antoan Richardson had a hit and Alfonso Soriano had a hit.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit which was a double and Beltran hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Nunez and Pineda each committed an error.  Adonis Garcia had an outfield assist.  The Yankees will have an off day on Monday before completing their grapefruit schedule this week and leaving for Houston on Saturday.  The Yankees will begin the 2014 regular season on Tuesday April 1st in Houston.
