The New York Yankees fail to sweep the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2 in 13 innings.  Michael Pineda started and pitched well, the bullpen was really good.  The Yankees got two solo homeruns as their whole offense. 

Pineda pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with no walks and five strikeouts.  Justin Wilson pitched to one batter and retired him, David Carpenter pitched a perfect inning and Dellin Betances pitched an inning striking out two.  Andrew Miller pitched two innings striking out three, Chris Martin pitched an inning walking one and striking out two and Chase Shreve lost his first game of the season.  Shreve pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with three walks and a strikeout. 

Drew Smyly pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and ten strikeouts.  Steve Geltz pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with five strikeouts, Kevin Jepsen pitched to four batters and retired them all and Brad Boxberger pitched an inning giving up a hit and walking two.  Brandon Gomes won his first game pitching two innings giving up a hit and struck out one.  Ernesto Frieri pitched an inning giving up a hit and he saved his second game of the season. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits, Chris Young had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit.  Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI, John Ryan Murphy drew a walk and Stephen Drew had a walk.  Headley and Young each hit a homerun adn the Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base and was picked off.  Headley committed an error and Murphy had a passed ball. 

Steven Souza Jr. drw a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera drew a walk and Evan Longoria had a hit and drew a walk.  James Loney had two hits and an RBI, Logan Forsythe had two hits and Kevin Kiermaier had two hits, an two RBI with a walk.  Forsythe hit a double and Kiermaier hit a tirple and the Rays were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Smyly had a pickoff. 

In the fourth Kiermaier hit a two run triple giving the Rays a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Headley hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the bottom of the sixth Young hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  In the thirteenth Loney hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 3-2 lead and that was the final score. 

The Yankees won two out of three for their fourth straight series win and they will have the day off on Thursday.  The Yankees will begin a three game series Friday night in Boston.   

New York Yankees win second straight over the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New  York and the final score was 4-2.  Chase Whitley was called up to make a spot start and he pitched well.  The bullpen was really good and Jacoby Ellsbury and Brian McCann led the offense. 

Whitley pitched five innings giving up six hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Chasen Shreve pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hti adn a run with a walk and a strikeout, Esmil Rogers pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk and struck out five and Chris Martin saved his first game pitching an inning and struck out one. 

Jake Odorizzi lost his second game of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings givign up nine hits and four runs.  He walked none and struck out four.  Xavier Cedeno pitched 2/3 of an inning givign up a walk and struck out one and Erasmo Ramirez pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Ellsbury had three hits, Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI and Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk.  McCann had two hits and three RBI, Chase Headley had a hit and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Teixeira hit a double and McCann hit two doubles and the Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Ellsbury had two stolen bases and Gardner had a stolen base. 

Steven Souza Jr. had a hit and drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and James Lones had two hits and drew a walk.  Logan Forsythe had two hits and an RBI, Kevin Kiermaier had two hits and Cabrera and Kiermaier each hit a double.  Forsythe hit a triple and the Rays were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Rivera committed an error.   

In the first Gardner hit an RBI groundout to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the first McCann hit an RBI double to make it a 2-0 game.  Cabrera hit an RBI double in the third and cut the Yankees lead to 2-1.  McCann hit a two run double in the fifth and the Yankees lead doubled to 4-1.  Forsythe hit an RBI triple in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-2 but that was the final score. 

The Yankees will look for the series sweep on Wednesday afternoon.  The Yankees will then be off on Thursday and head to Fenway Park for a big three game series against their division rivals the Boston Red Sox.

The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-1.  Adam Warren started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was great.  Brian McCann had a couple of hits and Stephen Drew was on base three times to lead the offense. 

Warren pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up one run on five hits.  He walked none and struck out six.  Justin Wilson earned his first victory of the season pitching an inning with a strikeout, David Carpenter pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked a batter and Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Andrew Miller saved his eighth game of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Nathan Karns pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks and five strikeouts.  Brandon Gomes took his first loss of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Everett Teaford pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and two strikeouts.

David DeJesus had a hit, Steven Souza Jr. had a hit and Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and an RBI.  Evan Longoria had two hits, Tim Beckham drew a walk, Rene Rivera had a hit and Cabrera hit a double.  The Rays were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Gardner had an RBI walk in the fifth to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Cabrera reached on a fielder's choice  and a run scored to tie the game.  The Yankees took the lead in the sixth on a McCann solo homerun.  Drew hit an RBI double and it was 3-1 Yankees.  In the eighth Ellsbury was hit by a pitch scoring a run and making it a 4-1 game which was the final score.  The Yankees and Rays will play game two of their series on Tuesday night.

The New York Yankees take the Subway Series with a 6-4 victory



The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets on Sunday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-4.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and struggled and Jon Niese for the Mets and he struggled.  The bullpens were pretty good.  Alex Rodriguez had a couple of hits including a homerun for the Yankees.  Daniel Murphy led the Mets offense with a couple of hits and RBI. 

Eovaldi pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with six strikeouts.  Chasen Shreve earned his first win pitching 2/3 of an inning walking one, Chris Martin pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings and Justin Wilson retired the only batter that he faced.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning striking out three and Andrew Miller earned his seventh save of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Niese lost his first game of the season pitching five innings and giving up eight hits and six runs with four of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out three.  Erik Goeddel pitched two innings giving up a hit and struck out three and Alex Torres pitched an inning striking out one. 

Brett Gardner had two hits and an RBI, Chris Young had a hit and an RBI and Rodriguez had two hits and two RBI.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit and John Ryan Murphy had two hits.  Gregorio Petit had a hit and an RBI, Murphy, Petit, Gardner, Rodriguez and Headley each hit a double.  Rodriguez hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Drew and Headley each committed an error and Beltran had an outfield assist. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI, Juan Lagares had two hits and Lucas Duda had a hit.  Michael Cuddyer had a hit and an RBI, Murphy had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk including two doubles.  Cuddyer hit a double and Granderson hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Campbell, Cuddyer, Murphy and Flores each hit an error. 

In the first Granderson hit a solo homerun and Murphy hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  Rodriguez hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the second Petit hit an RBI double, Gardner hit an RBI double, Young hit an RBI single and Rodriguez hit an RBI double.  The Yankees had a 5-2 lead.  In the third Cuddyer hit an RBI double and Murphy hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 5-4.  In the fifth Rodriguez grounded into a force out and a run scored to make it 6-4.  6-4 would be the final score as the Yankees bullpen nailed down the win. 

The Yankees took the series two out of three.  The Yankees have now won three straight series and are 8-2 in their last ten games.  The Yankees will take on the Tampa Bay Rays in three games beginning Monday night at Yankee Stadium.

The New York Mets defeated the New York Yankees on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-2.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and struggled and Matt Harvey for the Mets and he was great.  The Yankees bullpen was pretty good.  Juan Lagares led the Mets with four hits and Mark Teixeira led the Yankees with three hits. 

Sabathia pitched five innings giving up nine hits and seven runs.  He walked none and struck out two and took his fourth loss of the season.  Esmil Rogers pitched three innings giving up three hits and a run with three strikeouts and Chris Martin pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Harvey won his fourth game of the season pitching 8 2/3 innings and giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Carlos Torres pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Teixeira had three hits and an RBI and Brian McCann drew a walk.  Stephen Drew had a hit, Didi Gregorius had a hit and Drew hit a double.  Teixeira hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Gregorius committed an error. 

Granderson had a hit, Lucas Duda had a hit and an RBI and Michael Cuddyer had a hit.  Eric Campbell had a hit and an RBI, Lagares had four hits and an RBI and Wilmer Flores had two hits and an RBI.  Kevin Plawecki had two hits and three RBI, Lagares hit a triple and Duda, Plawecki and Campbell each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Duda hit a solo homerun in the first to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Ellsbury hit into a double play but a run scored to tie the game at one.  In the fourth Lagares hit an RBI triple, Flores hit an RBI single and Plawecki hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 5-1 lead.  In the sixth Campbell hit a solo homerun and a wild pitch scored another run.  The Mets had a 7-1 lead.  In the seventh Teixeira hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 7-2.  Plawecki hit an RBI single in the eighth to make it 8-2 and that was the final score.  The Yankees and Mets split the first two games of the Subway Series and will play the rubber game on Sunday night.  It will be Nathan Eovaldi against Jon Niese.
