The New York Mets win a close one over the Baltimore Orioles



The New York Mets defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Bartolo Colon started and pitched well and Daniel Murphy had two hits and Kevin Plawecki had two RBI. 

Colon pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up six hits and a run with no walks and nine strikeouts.  Colon won his fifth game of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched to one batter and retired him and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Bud Norris lost his third game of the season pitching seven innigns giving up seven hits and three runs with a walk and four strikeouts and Brian Matusz pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, Lucas Duda had a hit and Michael Cuddyer had a hit.  Murphy had two hits and an RBI, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Plawecki had a hit and two RBI.  Duda, Flores and Plawecki hit a double and the Mets were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Granderson was caught stealing. 

Manny Machado had a hit and an RBI, Jimmy Paredes had a hit and Adam Jones had a hit.  Chris Davis had two hits and an RBI, Delmon Young had a hit and Travis Snider had a hit.  Machado and Davis hit a homerun and the Orioles were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the fourth Murphy hits an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Plawecki hit a two run double in the fourth to make it 3-0.  In the eighth Machado hit a solo homerun to make it 3-1 and in the ninth Davis hit a solo homerun to make it 3-2. 

The two teams will play game two of their two game series on Wednesday night.   

The New York Yankees drop their first series in the last six with loss in Toronto



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  The final score of the game was 5-1 Toronto.  CC Sabathia started and didn't pitch bad but he didn't pitch good either.  The offense saw Jose Pirela get two hits but no one else had more than one. 

Sabathia pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Sabathia lost his fifth game of the season.  Esmil Rogers pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run and Chasen Shreve pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and struck out one. 

Mark Buehrle won his fourth game of the season pitching five innings giving up six hits and a run wiht a walk and three strikeouts.  Roberto Osuna pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk, Aaron Loup pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Brett Cecil pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one. 

Ellsbury had a hit, Chris Young had a hit and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Carlos Beltran had a hit and Stephen Drew had two walks.  Pirela had two hits, Rodriguez and Pirela hit a double and the Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Josh Donaldson had a hit, Jose Bautista drew a walk and Edwin Encarnacion drew a walk.  Russell Martin had three hits and an RBI, Kevin Pillar had two hits and Chris Colabello had four hits and an RBI.  Ryan Goins had a hit and an RBI, Ezequiel Carrera had a hit and two RBI.  Colabello hit a double, Goins hit a triple and Martin hit a homerun.  Collabello had a stolen base and Martin had a passed ball. 

In the first Teixeira had an RBI groundout to make it 1-0 Yankees.  The Blue Jays scored two runs in the second to take the lead.  Carrera hit a two run single.  In the fourth Colabello hit an RBI single to make it a 3-1 game and in the sixth Martin hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 4-1.  In the eighth Goins hit an RBI triple and it was 5-1 Blue Jays which would be the final score.  The Blue Jays won two out of three in the series and ended the Yankees five series winning steak.  The Yankees will head home for a very short four game homestand with the Baltimore Orioles.   

The New York Yankees bounce back in Toronto behind an ace performance from Michael Pineda



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  The final score of the game was 6-3.  Michael Pineda pitched eight dominant innings.  David Carpenter ran into trouble in the ninth and Andrew Miller had to record the last out.  Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and Stephen Drew had two hits. 

Pineda won his fourth game of the season pitching eight innings giving up five hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out six.  Carpenter pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and Miller saved his 11th game of the season walking one. 

Marco Estrada pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and five runs with four of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out three and lost his first game of the season.  Jeff Francis pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit, Steve Delabar pitched an inning with a walk and Chad Jenkins pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Ellsbury had three hits and an RBI, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and two RBI.  Mark Teixeira had a hit and two RBI, Brian McCann had a hit and drew a walk and Drew had two hits.  Didi Gregorius had a hit and na RBI and Gregorio Petit had a hit.  Gardner and Rodriguez each hit a double and Teixeira hit a homerun.  the Yankees were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Ellsbury had two stolen bases. 

Devon Travis had a hit, Russell Martin had three hits and an RBI and Edwin Encarnacion had a hit.  Kevin Pillar drew a walk, Chris Colabello had two hits and an RBI and Ryan Goins had a hit and an RBI.  Ezequiel Carrera drew a walk, Jose Bautista drew a walk and Martin hit two doubles.  Travis and Colabello each hit a double and Martin hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Donaldson committed an error. 

In the first Rodriguez hit a two run double to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  They took a 3-0 lead in the second on an Ellsbury RBI single.  In the fifth Teixeira hit a two run homerun to extend the lead to 5-0.  In the eighth Gregorius hit an RBI single and the Yankees had a 6-0 lead.  Martin hit a solo homerun in the ninth, Colabello hit an RBI double and Goins hit an RBI single.  The final score was 6-3 as the Blue Jays left a couple of guys on to end the game. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Wednesday night.  The Yankees will then return home on Thursday night for a brief four game homestand with the Baltimore Orioles.

The New York Yankees blow a late lead and lose to the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  The final score was 3-1 and Chase Whitley started for the Yankees and pitched great.  The Yankees bullpen which has been so great gave up the lead in the 8th.  The Yankees offense only managed three hits as they couldn't touch R.A. Dickey. 

Whitley pitched seven innings giving up six hits and no runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out six.  Chris Martin suffered the loss pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up two hits and two runs with no walks or strikeouts and Dellin Betances pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run with a strikeout. 

Dickey won his first game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up one run on three hits.  He walked three and struck out none.  Brett Cecil saved his second game of the season pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning to close out the game. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Brett Gardner drew two walks and Carlos Beltran had a hit.  Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk, Garrett Jones had an RBI and Ellsbury and Beltran each hit a double.  The Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.   Whitley and Headley each committed an error. 

Devon Travis had a hit, Josh Donaldson had two hits and Jose Bautista had a hit.  Edwin Encarnacion had a hit and an RBI, Kevin Pillar had a hit and Josh Thole had a hit.  Russell Martin had a hit and an RBI, Ryan Goins had a hit and Carrera had a hit.  Donaldson and Encarnacion each hit a double.  The Blue Jays were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Pillar and Martin each had a stolen base. 

In the seventh the Yankees took a 1-0 lead.  Jones had an RBI groundout.  In the eighth the Blue Jays took a 3-1 lead and that would be the final score.  Encarnacion hit an RBI double to tie the game and Martin hit an RBI single and another run scored on a throwing error. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.  The Yankees came into the game in first place and having won 13 of their last 16 games and the Blue Jays in last place but this is the third time in four games the Blue Jays have beaten the Yankees this season. 

The New York Mets drop their second straight 1-0 game to the Washington Nationals



The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 1-0.  Dillon Gee started and pitched pretty well but he was wild with too many walks.  Juan Lagares had two of the teams five hits. 

Gee pitched five innings giving up six hits and a run with five walks and five strikeouts.  Gee took his second loss of the season, this one was a tough luck loss.  Alex Torres pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts, Erik Goeddel pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and struck out one and Sean Gilmartin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a walk.  Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Doug Fister started for the Nationals and pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and no runs with no walks and three strikeouts.  Fister won his second game of the season, Tanner Roark pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a strikeout, Matt Thornton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two walks and he struck out one and Aaron Barrett pitched to one batter and struck him out.  Drew Storen saved his seventh game of the season pitching a perfect inning.

Denard Span had a hit and drew a walk, Yunel Escobar had a hit and Jayson Werth drew a walk.  Bryce Harper had a hit, Ryan Zimmerman had a hit and an RBI and Ian Desmond had two hits and drew a walk.  Danny Espinosa had a hit, Jose Lobaton drew two walks and Tyler Moore drew a walk.  Desmond had two doubles, Span and Espinosa each hit a double.  The Nationals were 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base. 

In the first Zimmerman hit an RBI single to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  The one run would hold up the whole game as the Mets couldn't get much of anything going all day.  The Mets will have the day off on Monday before taking on the Baltimore Orioles at home on Tuesday night.  They will begin a three game series with the Orioles.
