Mets Rally Falls Short in Ninth | Nationals take Win 4-3 | Breaking News WorldNewsVine

The Mets couldn't come up with a big hit today. They left plenty of men on base and their rally came up just short. They loaded the bases in the ninth inning and pinch hitter Rod Barajas hit a sinking line drive that Willie Harris made a diving backhanded stop on to preserve the win. The Mets have a chance to win the series with their ace Johan Santana on the mound tomorrow. They also will play their final game of the homestand. Here is my article that I wrote for World News Vine today explaining what else went on in todays game. Mets Rally Falls Short in Ninth Nationals take Win 4-3 Breaking News WorldNewsVine

The New York Yankees will play their 2nd of 3 games against the Rays this afternoon in St. Petersburg. The game is at 3:10PM on Fox. CC Sabathia will make the start going up against Wade Davis for the Rays. The Yankees lost the opener 9-3 last night and are 2-2 on the young season. The Rays are 3-1 coming out of the gate quick. Here are the notes and lineups for todays game. Yankees Lineup: Jeter(SS) Johnson(DH) Teixeira(1B) Rodriguez(3B) Cano(2B) Swisher(RF) Granderson(CF) Gardner(LF) Cervelli(C) Rays Lineup: Bartlett(SS) Crawford(LF) Zobrist(2B) Longoria(3B) Upton(CF) Aybar(1B) Burrell(DH) Shoppach(C) Kaplar(RF) Alex Rodriguez needs one more hit to reach 1,000 with the Yankees. He will become the 39th player to so with the Yankees and first since Jorge Posada did it in 2005. He also needs 1 more homerun to pass Mark McGwire for 8th on the all time list. Over the last 3 games the Yankees bullpen has given up 1 earned run and 0 walks in 10 1/3 innings. They have gone 2-0 and 0.87 era in that span. Mark Teixeira is 0-16 to start his season matching his career high in hitless at bats from the start of a season. He originally did that as a rookie in 2003. Mark Teixiera turns 30 tomorrow. The Yankees are the only team in the majors with at least 3 pitchers who tossed 200 or more innings last year. Javier Vazquez, CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett all did. Andy Pettitte threw 194 2/3 innings. They also have 4 starters who have at least 100 career wins.

Regular Season Game 5-Nationals at Mets

The New York Mets take on the Washington Nationals in Game 2 of their 3 game series. The game is at Citi Field and starts at 1:10PM. Here are the lineups and notes for this game. Mets Lineup: Reyes(SS) Cora(2B) Wright(3B) Bay(LF) Francoeur(RF) Matthews Jr.(CF) Tatis(1B) Blanco(C) Perez(P) Nationals Lineup: Morgan(CF) Guzman(2B) Zimmerman(3B) Dunn(1B) Willingham(LF) Desmond(SS) Rodriguez(C) Taveras(RF) Lannan(P) Jose Reyes returns from the DL today and the Mets optioned Ruben Tejada to Buffalo which is the AAA club of the Mets. Mets Win/Yankees Lose

The New York Mets had a good night last night in defeating the Washington Nationals by the score of 8-2. Mike Pelfrey turned in a strong pitching performance and the Mets hit 4 homeruns in a game at Citi Field for the first time. Rod Barajas and Jeff Francoeur each hit 2 homeruns. Mike Pelfrey pitched 6 innings giving up 4 hits and 2 runs with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. Hisanori Takahashi, Fernando Nieve and Jenrry Mejia each pithced a scoreless inning. Angel Pagan and Alex Cora each had a hit and a walk and Alex Cora had a rbi. David Wright had 2 hits a walk and a rbi. Jason Bay had a hit and a walk. It was a good game all the way around for the Mets who now will get Jose Reyes back today and that should provide them with a boost. The best thing about this game for the Mets though was the effective pitching from Mike Pelfrey. If the Mets are going to go anywhere they need good pitching from someone other then Johan Santana. They will play game 2 of the 3 game series this afternoon at 1:00PM. The Yankees on the other hand had a very bad night. Javier Vazquez did not have a good return back to the Yankees and the AL. He pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up 8 hits and 8 runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Sergio Mitre did a good job in relief pitching 2 1/3 innings giving up 2 hits and 1 run with 1 strikeout. Alex Rodriguez had a rbi triple and Derek Jeter and Nick Johnson each had 2 hits. Robinson Cano, Marcus Thames and Nick Swisher each had a hit. The Yankees will attempt to bounce back this afternoon at 3:10PM with CC Sabathia on the mound.
