New York Mets are doubled up by the Washington Nationals

 

The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Monday night.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 8-4.  Jerad Eickhoff started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch well.  The Mets had four players with two hits to lead the offense. 

Eickhoff pitched six innings giving up eight hits and five runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Eickhoff lost his first game of the season.  Sean Reid-Foley pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Miguel Castro pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked a batter. 

Paolo Espino pitched five innings giving up five hits and no runs with no walks and three strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season.  Sam Clay pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Wander Suero pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Justin Miller pitched 1/3 of an inninggiving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout.  Brad Hand saved his 17th game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts. 

Jeff McNeil had two hits and an RBI, Dom Smith had two hits and Pete Alonso had two hits and two RBI.  Billy McKinney had a hit and an RBI, Luis Guillorme had two hits and Patrick Mazeika had a hit.  Alonso and McKinney each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Alonso committed an error and Blankenhorn committed two errors. 

Kyle Schwarber had three hits and two RBI, Trea Turner had two hits and an RBI and Juan Soto had a hit.  Josh Bell drew a walk, Yan Gomes had a hit and Gerardo Parra had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Ryan Zimmerman had a hit and three RBI.  Soto, Parra and Gomes each hit a double and Schwarber hit two homeruns.  The Nationals were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Castro committed an error. 

In the first Schwarber hit a solo homerun, Turner hit a solo homerun and the Nationals grabbed a 2-0 lead.  IN the bottom of the second Parra hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the fifth Schwarber hit a solo homerun making it 4-0.  In the bottom of the sixth Castro hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 5-0.  In the seventh McNeil hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 5-1.  In the eighth Alonso hit a two-run homerun making it a 5-3 game.  McKinney hit a solo homerun and it was 5-4.  In the bottom of the eighth Zimmerman hit a three-run homerun making it 8-4 and that would be the final score.   

New York Yankees lose to Angels to drop fourth straight

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-3.  Michael King started for the Yankees and he pitched ok and the bullpen wasn’t bad.  Gio Urshela led the offense with a couple of hits. 

King pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out four and took his fourth loss of the season.  Lucas Luetge pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout, Chad Green pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts and Nestor Cortes pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Dylan Bundy started for the Angels and he pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs and left the game early due to heat exhaustion.  Jose Suarez pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Suarez earned his third win of the season.  Steve Cishek pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Raisel Iglesias pitched a perfect inning striking out the side and earned his 14th save of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had an RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and an RBI, Urshela had two hits and an RBI and Miguel Andujar had a hit.  Judge hit a double and Urshela and Stanton each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  LeMahieu committed an error and Judge had an outfield assist. 

David Fletcher had a hit, Shohei Ohtani had a hit and an RBI and Anthony Rendon had a hit and drew two walks.  Jared Walsh had two hits and an RBI, Max Stassi had an RBI and Scott Schebler had a hit.  Jose Iglesias had two hits and an RBI, Luis Rengifo had a hit and Juan Lagares had two hits and an RBI.  Walsh, Rendon, Fletcher and Iglesias each hit a double.  Ohtani and Lagares each hit a homerun and the Angels were 0-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the first Ohtani hit a solo homerun giving the Angels a 1-0 lead.  Walsh hit an RBI double pushing the lead to 2-0.  In the bottom of the first Sanchez hit an RBI ground out cutting the lead to 2-1.  In the bottom of the second Urshela hit a solo homerun tying the game at two.  In the fifth Stassi hit into a force out and a run scored giving the Angels a 3-2 lead.  In the sixth Lagares hit a solo homerun extending the lead to 4-2.  Stanton hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the eighth Iglesias hit an RBI double making it a 5-3 game and that would be the final score.

New York Yankees rally to defeat the Kansas City Royals on a walk-off

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-5.  Michael King started for the Yankees and pitched ok.  The bullpen had some struggles but the offense came back scoring four runs in the last two innings. 

King pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs.  He walked three and struck out five.  Chad Green pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up no hits or runs and striking out a batter, Zack Britton pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  He won his fifth game but had his third blown save of the season. 

Danny Duffy started for the Royals and he pitched two innings with three walks and four strikeouts.  Kyle Zimmer pitched an inning giving up a hit, Carlos Hernandez pitched two innings giving up a hit and two runs with three walks and two strikeouts and Josh Staumont pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.  Scott Barlow pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two walks and he struck out two, Jake Brentz pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and Greg Holland pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout.  Holland lost his third game of the season and blew his fourth save of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Gary Sanchez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and drew three walks.  Luke Voit had a hit and an RBI, Gleyber Torres drew two walks and Miguel Andujar had a hit and drew a walk.  Clint Frazier had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks, Roughned Odor had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Frazier hit a double.  Odor and Sanchez each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

Whit Merrifield had a hit, Carlos Santana had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks and Salvador Perez had a hit.  Sebastian Rivero had an RBI and drew a walk, Ryan O’Hearn had two hits and three RBI and Jorge Soler had a hit.  Kelvin Gutierrez drew a walk, Michael Taylor had a hit and Nick Lopez drew a walk.  Perez and Soler each hit a double and O’Hearn and Santana each hit a homerun.  The Royals were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the first O’Hearn hit a two-run homerun giving the Royals a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Frazier hit a two-run double to tie the score at two.  In the eighth Santana hit a solo homerun giving the Royals back the lead at 3-2.  In the bottom of the eighth Odor hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees the lead at 4-3.  In the ninth an RBI walk by Rivero tied the game at four and O’Hearn hit an RBI single to give the Royals a 5-4 lead.  In the bottom of the ninth Sanchez hit a solo homerun tying the game at five and Voit hit a walk-off RBI single giving the Yankees the 6-5 victory. 

The two teams will play the rubber game on Thursday afternoon.

New York Mets are shutout by the Atlanta Braves

 

The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-0.  Marcus Stroman started for the Mets and he only pitched an inning and left with an injury.  The Mets bullpen pitched pretty well and the offense only managed two hits. 

Stroman pitched an inning giving up two walks.  Yennsy Diaz pitched two innings giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and three strikeouts and lost his first game of the season.  Drew Smith pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out three, Aaron Loup pitched three innings giving up a hit and he struck out four and Trevor May pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Charlie Morton started for the Braves and he pitched seven innings giving up a hit and two walks with 11 strikeouts.  Morton won his seventh game of the season.  A.J. Minter pitched an inning with a strikeout and Will Smith saved his 15th game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit. 

Billy McKinney drew a walk, James McCann had a hit and Luis Guillorme drew a walk.  Jerad Eickhoff had a hit, McCann hit a double and the Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Freddie Freeman drew a walk, Ozzie Albies had two hits and Abraham Almonte drew two walks.  Austin Riley drew a walk, Dansby Swanson had two hits and three RBI and William Contreras drew a walk.  Ender Inciarte had a hit, Swanson hit a homerun and the Braves were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Albies had two stolen bases. 

In the third Swanson hit a three-run homerun giving the Braves a 3-0 lead and that would be the final score. 

New York Yankees fall short in loss to the Kansas City Royals

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-5.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Jonathan Loaisiga out of the pen pitched poorly.  The Yankees had four players who had two hits but it wasn’t enough. 

Cole pitched seven innings giving up three hits and two runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  Loaisiga lost his third game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up five hits and four runs with two strikeouts and Lucas Luetge pitched 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout. 

Brady Singer started for the Royals and he pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with five walks and five strikeouts.  Kris Bubic pitched 2 1/3 innings with two strikeouts, Jake Brentz pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and he earned his second win of the season.  Kyle Zimmer pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk, Scott Barlow pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Greg Holland pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.  Holland saved his fifth game of the season.

In the first Voit hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Higashioka hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 2-0.  In the third Merrifield hit an RBI ground out cutting the lead to 2-1.  In the fourth O’Hearn hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  In the bottom of the seventh a wild pitch made it 3-2 Yankees.  In the eighth O’Hearn hit an RBI single to tie the game at three.  Dyson reached on a fielder’s choice and the Royals had a 4-3 lead.  Dozier hit an RBI single and the lead was pushed to 5-3 and Taylor hit an RBI single to make it a 6-3 game.  In the bottom of the eighth LeMahieu hit a two-run homerun cutting the lead to 6-5 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.
