The Mets win their second straight game in Philadelphia

The New York Mets continue to play well. They are off to a very good start. They probably needed this more then any other team in the league. Can the Mets continue this and for how long?? I am not sure, I don’t expect them to be that good of a team but you never know. Jon Niese started today and pitched well, the bullpen was good. Lucas Duda and David Wright each hit a homerun.
Niese pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up five hits and a walk with five strikeouts. He is now 2-0 on the season with a 2.13 ERA. He is off to a good start like the team. Bobby Parnell pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and Jon Rauch pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. Vance Worley took the loss pitching six innings and giving up eight hits and four runs. He walked four and struck out five, The bullpen used three pitchers and pitched three innings. They gave up a run and two hits with a couple of walks and four strikeouts.

Ruben Tejada had a couple of hits and an RBI, Daniel Murphy drew three walks and Wright had three hits and an RBI. Ike Davis had a hit, Jason Bay had a hit and Lucas Duda had two hits and two RBI. Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit, Josh Thole drew two walks and Mike Baxter drew a walk. Duda had a double and Wright and Duda each hit a homerun. The Mets were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Baxter had a stolen base and Bay was caught stealing.

Shane Victorino had a hit for the Phillies. Placido Polanco, Jimmy Rollins and Ty Wigginton each had a hit. Wigginton also drew a walk, Juan Pierre and Galvis also had a hit. The Phillies were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. The Phillies are struggling to score runs. They have lost Ryan Howard due to an injury. The hope is to have him back around the All-Star Break or shortly after. They are a team that just doesn’t have much offense to go with their great pitching.

The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Wright solo homerun. In the fourth Bay hit into a double play and a run scored to make it 2-0 Mets. Duda hit a two run homerun and it was 4-0 Mets. The final run of the game came in the ninth inning. Tejada hit an RBI single.

The Mets will try to sweep the series on Sunday afternoon. The Mets are off to a 6-2 start and the Phillies are 3-5. The Mets will have Mike Pelfrey on the mound.
