The New York Yankees bats awake and they take the series from the Kansas City Royals

The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals by the score of 8-3 on Wednesday night. The game was played at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx,NY. Andy Pettitte made the start for the Yankees and pitched well for the second straight game. He has won two out of his first three games. The Yankees offense was led by Alex Rodriguez who had a big game. Will Smith made his major league debut for the Royals and struggled. Eric Hosmer led the Royals offense. 
Pettitte pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and two runs. He walked one and struck out eight and won his second game of the season. David Phelps pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts. Smith took his first loss and pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with a walk and a strikeout. The bullpen pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up two hits and three runs with six walks and four strikeouts.

Derek Jeter had three hits, Curtis Granderson had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Mark Teixeira had an RBI and drew three walks. Rodriguez had two hits and three RBI, Robinson Cano had an RBI and Nick Swisher drew a walk. Andruw Jones had a hit and an RBI and drew two walks. Jeter had a double, Granderson had a homerun and Rodriguez hit two homeruns. The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Alex Gordon drew a walk, Billy Butler had a hit and an RBI and Jeff Francoeur had a hit. Alcides Escobar had two hits, Hosmer had three hits and an RBI and Mitch Maier had two hits and an RBI. Escobar and Hosmer each had a double. Butler and Maier each hit a homerun. The Royals were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base. Hosmer had a stolen base and Moustakas committed an error.

Granderson hit a solo homerun and Rodriguez hit a two run homerun in the first inning. The Yankees had a quick 3-0 lead. In the third Teixeira grounded out scoring a run and Rodriguez hit his second homerun a solo shot to make it 5-0 Yankees. In the fourth inning Butler had a solo homerun to make it 5-1. Maier hit a solo homerun in the fifth to make it 5-2. Teixeira drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth to make it 6-2, Cano grounded into a force out to make it 7-2 and Jones walked with the bases loaded to make it 8-2. In the ninth Hosmer hit an RBI double to make it 8-3 and that was the final score.

The Yankees won two out of three in the series and the last two games in a row. The Yankees improved their record to 23-21 and the Royals dropped their record to 17-26. The Yankees will get the day off on Thursday and begin a three game series in Oakland on Friday night.
