The Yankees win their fourth straight as their offense stays hot

The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics by the score of 9-2 on Saturday evening. CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and didn’t have his best command but pitched well enough to win the game. Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano carried the offense with a combined seven hits. Bartolo Colon started for the Athletics and didn’t pitch very well. Cowgill led the Athletics offense. 
Sabathia gave up seven hits and two runs in seven innings. He walked two and struck out four and earned his sixth win of the season. Cory Wade pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Cody Eppley pitched an inning giving up a walk. Colon lost his fifth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up nine hits and six runs. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out three. Jordan Norberto pitched an inning giving up two walks and Godfrey pitched two innings giving up five hits and three runs with two of them being earned. He did strike out a batter.

Derek Jeter had two hits and two RBI, Curtis Granderson drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez had an RBI and drew a walk. Cano had three hits and an RBI, Teixeira had four hits and five RBI and Nick Swisher had two hits. Eric Chavez had two hits, and Chris Stewart had a hit. Chavez, Swisher and Cano each had a double. Cano had a homerun and Teixeira hit two homeruns in the game. The Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and they left seven men on base. Granderson was caught stealing and Stewart had a passed ball.

Jemile Weeks had two hits, Josh Reddick had a hit and an RBI and Johnny Gomes had a hit and an RBI. Kurt Suzuki drew two walks, Adam Rosales drew a walk and Collin Cowgill had three hits. The Athletics were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and they left eight men on base. Pennington committed an error.

Gomes had an RBI single in the first inning to make it 1-0 Athletics. Cano hit a solo homerun in the second inning to tie the game at one. In the third inning Jeter hit an RBI single to put the Yankees ahead 2-1. The Athletics tied the game right away in the third inning on a Reddicke solo homerun. Teixeira hit the first of his two homeruns in the fourth inning to make it 3-2 Yankees. Rodriguez had a sacrifice fly in the

Fifth inning. Teixeira hit a two run single in the same inning to push the lead to 6-2. In the eighth inning Jeter was hit by a pitch to make it 7-2 Yankees and that would be the final score.

The Yankees record improved to 25-21 and the Athletics record dropped to 22-25. The Yankees will be looking for the sweep on Sunday afternoon. The Yankees will then head to Anaheim for a three game series.
