The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 2-1

The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves by the score of 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. The game took place at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Jon Niese started for the Mets and pitched well, he looks to be in line to be the Opening day starter. Jordany Valdespin had a good day to lead the Mets offense which didn’t do much at all. 
Niese pitched five innings giving up two hits and one runs with a walk and four strikeouts. Scott Rice picked up the loss pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Brandon Lyon pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Pedro Feliciano pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit. Robert Carson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and striking out one and Bobby Parnell pitched 2/3 of an inning and retired both hitters that he faced.

Valdespin had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Brandon Hicks drew a walk and Ike Davis had a hit. Daniel Muno drew a walk, Zach Lutz drew a walk and Davis hit a double. Valdespin hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.

Julio Teheran picked up the win pitching six innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks and seven strikeouts. Luis Avilan pitched a perfect inning, Dusty Hughes pitched an inning giving up a walk and Anthony Varvaro pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out one.

Jordan Schafer had a hit, Freddie Freeman had a hit and an RBI and Chris Johnson had three hits and an RBI. Jordan Parraz had a hit, Ramiro Pena had a hit and drew a walk and Juan Francisco had a hit. Johnson hit a homerun and the Braves were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Schafer had a stolen base.

The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Valdespin hit a solo homerun, the Braves scored a single run in the fourth and sixth inning. Johnson hit a solo homerun in the fourth and in the sixth Freeman hit an RBI single to make it 2-1 and that was the final score.

The Mets record fell to 7-10 on the spring and the Braves record improved to 13-11. The Mets will play at the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday afternoon.
