The New York Mets win a makeup game in Minnesota 6-1


The New York Mets defeated the Minnesota Twins on Monday afternoon. The final score was 6-1 and the game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched really well. The Mets offense was well balanced with seven of the nine batters having two hits.

Gee pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up six hits and an unearned run. He walked one and struck out nine and earned his ninth win of the season. Scott Rice retired the only batter that he faced and Scott Atchison pitched an inning giving up a hit.

Eric Young Jr. had two hits and an RBI, Daniel Murphy had two hits and an RBI and Marlon Byrd had two hits and an RBI. Ike Davis drew a walk, Andrew Brown had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Wilmer Flores had two hits and an RBI. Travis D’Arnaud drew a walk, Juan Lagares had two hits and Omar Quintanilla had two hits and an RBI. Flores hit a double, Byrd hit a homerun and the Mets were 6-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Murphy committed an error.

Kyle Gibson pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up 10 hits and four runs with two walks and two strikeouts. Anthony Swarzak pitched three innings giving up three hits and a run. He walked one and struck out five, Brian Duensing pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out three and Jared Burton pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.

Dozier had a hit, Joe Mauer had two hits and Justin Morneau had a hit and drew a walk. Trevor Plouffe had two hits, Thomas had a hit and Morneau, Plouffe and Mauer each hit a double. The Twins were 0-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Brown hit an RBI single in the first giving the Mets a 1-0 lead. Young hit an RBI single in the second to extend the Mets lead to 2-0. In the fourth Quintanilla hit an RBI single and Murphy hit an RBI single to make it 4-0 Mets. Flores hit an RBI single in the seventh to push the Mets lead to 5-0. Clete Thomas reached on a fielding error to score the Twins only run. The Mets scored their final run in the ninth on a Byrd solo homerun and the final was 6-1 Mets.

The Mets record improved to 57-66 and the Twins record dropped to 54-69. The Mets will head home to begin a two game series with the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.
