The New York Yankees are shutout by the Tampa Bay Rays


The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. The final score was 7-0 and the game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. It was basically the end to the Yankees postseason chances. They should be officially eliminated on Wednesday night. Hiroki Kuroda started and wasn’t very good and the offense only managed four hits.

Kuroda pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and five runs with two walks and five strikeouts. He lost his 13th game of the season. Boone Logan pitched to one batter and struck him out, Cesar Cabral retired the one batter he faced and Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and striking out three. Shawn Kelley pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts and Dellin Betances pitched to one batter and retired him.

Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Alex Rodriguez drew two walks and Robinson Cano had a hit. Alfonso Soriano had a hit and drew two walks, Eduardo Nunez had a hit and Brendan Ryan drew a walk. Chris Stewart drew a walk, Curtis Granderson drew a walk and Cano hit a double. The Yankees were 0-10 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. Nunez and Reynolds each committed an error.

Matt Moore won his 16th game of the season. He pitched five innings giving up three hits and no runs. He walked six and struck out four. Jamey Wright pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jake Odorizzi pitched three innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.

Matt Joyce had a hit and an RBI, Delmon Young had a hit and an RBI and Wil Myers had a hit and drew a walk. David DeJesus had two hits and two RBI, Evan Longoria had two hits and an RBI and Ben Zobrist had a hit and drew a walk. James Loney had a hit and two RBI, Sam Fuld drew a walk and Longoria, Young, and Loney each hit a double. DeJesus hit two doubles, Joyce hit a homerun and the Rays were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.

In the first inning the Rays struck for three runs. Joyce hit a leadoff homerun, DeJesus hit an RBI double and Longoria hit a sacrifice fly. In the sixth Loney hit a two run double to make it a 5-0 game. In the ninth the Rays finished the scoring with a couple more runs. Young hit an RBI double and DeJesus hit an RBI double to make it a 7-0 game. The Yankees left runners on the bases all night. Matt Moore was very wild all night and didn’t have his best stuff but the Yankees couldn’t make him pay.

The Yankees lost their second game in a row. The Yankees record dropped to 82-75 and the Rays record improved to 88-69. The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.
