The New York Yankees are shutout in Toronto by the Blue Jays


The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. The final score was 2-0 and the game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. Andy Pettitte started and was very good. The Yankees offense had chances in the first and second and then did nothing at all.

Pettitte pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and five strikeouts. Pettitte lost his 10th game of the season. Shawn Kelley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run and David Robertson pitched an inning giving up two hits.

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Robinson Cano had a hit and Alfonso Soriano had a hit. Lyle Overbay had a hit and drew a walk, Mark Reynolds had a hit and Chris Stewart drew a walk. Soriano hit a double and the Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Soriano had an outfield assist.

R.A. Dickey won his 13th game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and no runs. He walked two and struck out eight. Sergio Santos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Casey Janssen saved his 31st game of the season. He pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out the side.

Jose Reyes had a hit, Rajai Davis had two hits and an RBI and Brett Lawrie had a hit. Colby Rasmus had a hit and an RBI, Mark DeRosa had a hit and drew a walk and Adam Lind had a hit. Pillar had a hit, Anthony Gose had a hit and Goins drew a walk. Reyes, Davis and Gose each hit a double and Rasmus and Davis each hit a homerun. The Jays were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Goins committed an error.

Rasmus hit a solo homerun in the fourth to give the Jays a 1-0 lead. In the seventh Davis hit a solo homerun to make it 2-0 and that would be the final score. In the first inning the Yankees left the bases loaded and then first and second in the second inning. The Yankees never even came close to scoring after that.

The Yankees record fell to 79-72 and the Jays record improved to 69-81. The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.
