The New York Mets shutout the Atlanta Braves



The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 5-0.  Zach Wheeler started and pitched very well and the bullpen held the lead.  Daniel Murphy had four hits to lead the Mets offense. 

Wheeler pitched six innings giving up five hits and no runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  He won his 11th game of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched a perfect inning, Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Buddy Carlyle pitched a perfect inning. 

Julio Teheran pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and two runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out six and lost his 13th game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit, Jordan Walden pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs  with three walks and a strikeout and Luis Avilan pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit and two RBI, Murphy had four hits and Lucas Duda had a hit and two RBI.  Wilmer Flores had a hit, Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk and Matthew den Dekker had a hit and drew a walk.  Dilson Herrera had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Granderson  and Murphy each hit a double and Duda hit a homerun.  The Mets were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Andrelton Simmons had three hits, Freddy Freeman drew two walks and Justin Upton had a hit.  B.J. Upton had a hit, Simmons hit a double and the Braves were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the sixth Duda hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the ninth Herrera had an RBI walk, Young Jr. had a two run single to make it 5-0 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.
