The New York Yankees are swept in a doubleheader



The New York Yankees lost twice to the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.  The games took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final scores were 2-1 in 11 innings and 5-0.  Brandon McCarthy started game one and pitched great and the bullpen was good but Adam Warren blew the save.  In game two Bryan Mitchell made his first start of the season and pitched pretty well.  The bullpen was ok but David Phelps struggled with control in his return from injury.  The offense scored only one run in 20 innings of baseball. 

McCarthy pitched seven shutout innings only giving up four hits.  He walked none and struck out six.  Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings walking two batters and striking out two batters, David Robertson pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two walks and he struck out two and Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up one hit and two runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Warren lost his sixth game of the season and blew his third save of the season.  In the second game Mitchell pitched five innings giving up six hits and two runs.  He walked two and struck out two and took his first loss of the season.  Josh Outman pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Phelps pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with three walks and a strikeout and Rich Hill retired the only batter that he faced.  Chaz Roe pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts. 

Bud Norris earned his 13th win of the season in the second game.  He pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out ten.  Tommy Hunter pitched an inning giving up a hit and Brian Matusz pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.  In the first game Kevin Gausman pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out seven.  Andrew Miller pitched an inning and struck out the side, Darren O'Day pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Zach Britton pitched an inning walking one and striking out one.  Brad Brach won his seventh game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and a run. 

In the first game the Orioles only managed five hits but won with two runs in the 11th.  The Yankees only run came on a Chris Young homerun in the 11th.  They were one out away from winning when the game winning two run single was hit by Jimmy Paredes.  In game two the Yankees only managed four hits.  Nelson Cruz had two hits and Delmon Young had two RBI for the Orioles. 

In the fourth Ryan Flaherty hit an RBI double and Alejandro De Aza hit an RBI triple to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead.  In the seventh Young hit an two run single to increase the lead to 4-0.  The Orioles would add one more run in the eighth on a De Aza RBI triple.  The two teams will play game three of four on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Yankees win streak ends at five in Detroit



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan and the final score was 5-2.  Brandon McCarthy wasn't sharp and the Yankees offense was Jacoby Ellsbury who had three hits including two homeruns.

McCarthy pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and five runs.  He walked two and struck out five and lost his 13th game of the season.  Esmil Rogers pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out three. 

Rick Porcello won his 15th game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up two runs.  He gave up nine hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Joe Nathan earned his 28th save of the season pitching a 1-2-3 inning.  Nathan had one strikeout. 

Ellsbury had three hits and two RBI, Derek Jeter had two hits and Brian McCann had a hit.  Carlos Beltran had two hits, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Ellsbury hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  

Tori Hunter had two hits and an RBI, Miguel Cabrera had a hit and Victor Martinez had a hit.  J.D. Martinez had three hits and an RBI, Nick Castellanos had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Rajai Davis had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Hunter, Cabrera, J.D. Martinez and Davis each hit a double.  The Tigers were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the first Davis had an RBI walk to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  In the third J.D. Martinez hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.  Ellsbury hit a solo homerun in the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1 and that would be as close as the Yankees would get.  In the sixth Castellanos hit an RBI single to make it 3-1 and Avila grounded into a double play with another run scoring to make it 4-1.  The Tigers added a fifth run in the seventh on a Hunter RBI single.  Ellsbury hit another solo homerun in the eighth to make it 5-2.  The Yankees win streak comes to an end at five.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Wednesday night.

The New York Yankees avoid the sweep by the Houston Astros



The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-0.  Brandon McCarthy started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  The offense scored all their runs in one inning but they didn't need to do much. 

McCarthy pitched a complete game four hit shutout.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out eight.  McCarthy earned his eight win of the season and fifth as a Yankee. 

Dallas Keuchel lost his ninth game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. 

Derek Jeter had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and Mark Teixeira had two hits.  Martin Prado had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and two RBI and Francisco Cervelli had a hit.  Prado and Headley each hit a double and the Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Robbie Grossman had a hit, Chris Carter had a hit, Dexter Fowler had a hit and Marc Krauss had a hit.  Fowler and Krauss each hit a double and the Astros were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Headley hit a two run double and Ichiro hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning giving the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  Those would be the only runs of the game as that was the final score.  The Yankees lost two out of three and will begin a three game series with the Chicago White Sox at home on Friday night.

New York Yankees skid hits five as they lose in Tampa Bay



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 5-0.  Brandon McCarthy started and pitched pretty well.  The Yankees offense as usual couldn't get anything going. 

McCarthy pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up four runs on seven hits but only two runs were earned.  He walked one and struck out seven and lost his 12th game of the season.  Esmil Rogers pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Alex Cobb won his eighth game of the season pitching 7 1/3 innings giving up six hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out eight.  Brad Boxberger pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Joel Peralta pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Derek Jeter had two hits and Mark Teixeira had two hits.  Chase Headley had a hit, Stephen Drew had a hit and Francisco Cervelli had a hit.  The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Drew and Headley each committed an error. 

Desmond Jennings had two hits, Ben Zobrist had a hit and an RBI and Matt Joyce drew a walk.  Evan Longoria had a hit and an RBI, Curt Casali had a hit and an RBI and Kevin Kiermaier had a hit.  Loney hit a homerun and the Rays were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Jennings had a stolen base.

The Rays scored two runs in the first and never looked back.  Longoria and Loney each grounded out scoring a run.  In the seventh Casali hit an RBI single, Zobrist grounded out to score another run and make it 4-0.  Loney hit a solo homerun in the eighth and that completed the scoring at 5-0 Rays.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Yankees are shutout by Corey Kluber and the Cleveland Indians



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-0.  Brandon McCarthy started for the Yankees and pitched pretty well.  The Yankees bullpen was pretty good and the offense didn't get anything done. 

McCarthy pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs.  He walked none and struck out eight and suffered his 11th loss of the season.  Rich Hill pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Chase Whitley pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Corey Kluber pitched six innings giving up four hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out ten and earned his 13th win of the season.  Scott Atchison pitched a perfect inning, Bryan Shaw pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out the side and Cody Allen pitched an inning striking out two and picking up his 15th save of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Derek Jeter had a hit and Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits.  Chase Headley drew a walk, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Ellsbury and Gardner each hit a double.  The Yankees were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Suzuki had a stolen base. 

Michael Brantley had three hits and an RBI, Nick Swisher had a hit and Lonnie Chisenhall had a hit.  Jose Ramirez had three hits and two RBI, Chris Dickerson had a hit and Ramirez and Brantley each hit a homerun.  The Indians were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Ramirez had a stolen base.

In the second Ramirez hit a two run homerun to give the Indians a 2-0 lead.  In the eighth Brantley hit a solo homerun to give the Indians a 3-0 lead and that would be the final score.  The two teams have split the first two games of the three game series.  The rubber game of the series will be Sunday afternoon.

The New York Yankees take the first game of four over the Detroit Tigers



The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Brandon McCarthy started and pitched well, the bullpen was very good.  Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury each had two hits. 

McCarthy pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and a unearned run.  He walked two and struck out eight and earned his seventh win of the season.  Matt Thornton faced one batter and retired him, Adam Warren gave up a hit in an inning and Shawn Kelley pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  David Robertson saved his 30th game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Max Scherzer pitched seven innings giving up nine hits and two runs.  He walked three and struck out four  and lost his fourth game of the season.  Phil Coke pitched an inning giving up a strikeout. 

Gardner had two hits, Derek Jeter had a hit and Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI.  Carlos Beltran drew two walks, Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI and Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk.  Martin Prado had a hit and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Ellsbury hit a double and the Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Prado had a stolen base and committed an error. 

Ian Kinsler had a hit and an RBI, Ezequiel Carrera had a hit and Miguel Cabrera drew a walk.  Victor Martinez had two hits, J.D.Martinez had a hit and Don Kelly had a hit and drew a walk.  Martinez and Carrera each hit a double and the Tigers were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Suarez had a stolen base and Hunter had an outfield assist. 

In the third inning the Yankees took a 2-0 lead.  Ellsbury hit a sacrifice fly and McCann hit an RBI single.  Kinsler hit an RBI single in the fifth to make it a 2-1 game and that was the final score.   The two teams will play game two of four on Tuesday night.

The New York Yankees win the series over the Texas Rangers



The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-2.  Brandon McCarthy started for the Yankees and pitched well, the bullpen was pretty good.  The offense only managed six hits but it was enough. 

McCarthy pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and five strikeouts.  McCarthy earned his fifth win of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Matt Thornton threw one pitch and retired the only batter that he faced and Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  David Robertson saved his 25th game of the season pitched a scoreless inning.  He walked one and struck out two. 

Colby Lewis lost his eighth game of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings and giving up four hits and three runs.  He walked three and struck out two.  Ryan Feierabend pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Roman Mendez pitched 2/3 of an inning. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI and Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI, Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and drew a walk.  Francisco Cervelli had a hit and an RBI, Gardner, Cervelli and McCann each hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base. 

Shin-Soo Choo had a hit and drew a walk, Elvis Andrus had a hit and an RBI and Jim Adduci drew a walk.  J.P. Arencibia had a hit and an RBI, Leonys Martin drew a walk and Rougned Odor had two hits.  Odor hit a double, Arencibia hit a homerun and the Rangers were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the third Andrus hit an RBI single and the Rangers took a 1-0 lead.  The Yankees tied the game in the fourth on a Headley RBI single.  The Yankees took the lead in the fifth inning on a Cervelli RBI double and a Gardner sacrifice fly.  They had a 3-1 lead which got trimmed to 3-2 on an Arencibia solo homerun in the seventh inning.  The Yankees had a 3-2 lead and added an insurance run in the eighth on a McCann RBI double.  The Yankees took a 4-2 lead and that would be the final score.  The Yankees took three out of four in the series and have won six of seven on the homestand.  They will now start a three game series at home against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.

The New York Yankees roll to second straight victory



The New York Yankees defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-1.  Brandon McCarthy started for the Yankees and pitched very well.  Carlos Beltran, Brian Roberts and Kelly Johnson each had two hits to lead the offense. 

McCarthy pitched six innings giving up six hits and a run.  He walked none and struck out nine to earn his fourth win of the season.  Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Shawn Kelley pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and three strikeouts and Matt Thornton retired both batters that he faced. 

Alfredo Simon lost his fourth game of the season pitching five innings and giving up five hits and four runs with two of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out four.  Hoover pitched an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a strikeout, Contreras pitched a perfect inning and Diaz pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and three RBI, Derek Jeter had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Brian McCann had a hit.  Beltran had two hits and an RBI, Roberts had two hits and Johnson had two hits and two RBI.  Beltran hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Billy Hamilton had a hit, Todd Frazier had two hits and Devin Mesoraco had a hit.  Brayan Pena had a hit, Chris Heisey had a hit and an RBI and Donald Lutz had a hit.  Lutz and Hamilton each hit a double and Heisey hit a homerun.  The Reds were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Frazier had a stolen base, Bruce committed an error and Mesoraco had a passed ball. 

Beltran hit a solo homerun in the second to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Gardner hit an RBI single to make it 2-0.  Heisey hit a solo homerun in the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the bottom of the fifth Gardner hit a sacrifice fly and Jeter hit an RBI single to push the Yankees lead to 4-1.  In the sixth Johnson hit a two run single and Gardner hit a sacrifice fly to make it 7-0 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have taken the first two of the three game series and look for the three game sweep on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Yankees win a long extra inning game against the Cleveland Indians



The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 5-4 in 14 innings.  Brandon McCarthy started and pitched pretty well.  Mark Teixeira hit two homeruns and Jacoby Ellsbury hit the game winning homerun. 

McCarthy pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and four runs with only one being earned.  He walked one and struck out three.  Matt Thornton pitched to one batter and retired him, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one.  David Huff walked three without recording an out, Shawn Kelley pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings striking out two and Chase Whitley won his fourth game of the season pitching two innings giving up a hit and striking out three.  David Robertson picked up his 22nd save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Tomlin pitched seven innings giving up eight hits and four runs with five strikeouts.  Atchison pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout, Shaw pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Allen pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and walking one.  John Axford pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out two, Marc Rzepcsynski pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out two and Vinnie Pestano lost his first game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Ellsbury had three hits and an RBI, Derek Jeter had two hits and drew a walk and Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI.  Mark Teixeira had two hits and three RBI, Brian Roberts had a hit and drew a walk and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Zoilo Almonte had a hit, Zelous Wheeler had a hit and Brendan Ryan drew a walk.  Ellsbury hit a double, Teixeira hit two homeruns and Ellsbury hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Teixeira committed an error. 

Jeff Kipnis had two hits, Asdrubal Cabrera had three hits, Michael Brantley had a hit and drew a walk.  Carlos Santana had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Lonnie Chisenhall had an RBI and drew a walk and Nick Swisher had two hits and two RBI.  David Murphy had a hit, Chris Dickerson had two hits and Cabrera hit a double.  The Indians were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Kipnis had a stolen base. 

In the first Chisenhall had an RBI groundout and Swisher hit a two run single to give the Indians a 3-0 lead.  Teixeira hit a solo homerun in the fourth to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the fifth McCann hit a sacrifice fly and Teixeira hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  Santana hit an RBI single to tie the game at four in the fifth inning.  The score remained that way until the 14th inning when Ellsbury hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 5-4 lead.  5-4 would be the final score.  The Yankees have won two out of the first three games and the final game of the series will be on Thursday night.  the Yankees have won five of the first seven games on this 11 game road trip.
