The New York Mets are beat up by the Washington Nationals in opening game of big series

The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Monday night.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 7-2 Washington.  Matt Harvey started and wasn't very good, the bullpen wasn't good either.  The only plus of the pitching was that they only used two pitchers in the game.  Juan Lagares had two hits and Matt Harvey had two RBI to lead the offense.

Harvey pitched seven innings giving up five hits and five runs wtih four of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out three.  Alex Torres pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout.

Gio Gonzalez pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  He won his seventh game of the season.  Matt Thornton pitched a perfect inning, Casey Jansen pitched an inning giving up a hit and Drew Storen pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two.

Curtis Granderson ahd a hit, Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk and Daniel Murphy had a hit.  Wilmer Flores had a hit, Eric Campbell had a hit and drew a walk and Lagares had two hits.  Anthony Recker drew a walk, Harvey had a hit and two RBI and Lucas Duda had a hit.  Murphy and Lagares each hit a double and the Mets were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Lagares had a stolen base and Murphy committed an error.

Daniel Espinosa had two hits, Bryce Harper drew two walks and Yunel Escobar had a hit and an RBI.  Clint Robinson had two hits and two RBI, Ian Desmond had two hits and two RBI and Jose Lobaton drew a walk.  Matthew den Dekker drew a walk, Robinson hit a double and Desmond hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.

In the first Escobar hit an RBI single giving the Nationals a 1-0 lead and then got thrown out at second but a run scored to make it 2-0 Nationals.  In the third Robinson hit a two run double to make it 4-0.  In the third Desmond hit an RBI single to push the lead to 5-0.  In the fourth Harvey hit a two run single to cut the lead down to 5-2 which would be as close as it would get.  In the eighth Desmond hit a two run homerun to make it 7-2 and that would be the final score.

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.  Jacob deGrom will get the start for the Mets and the Nationals don't have an announced pitcher yet.
