The Yankees win another walk-off thriller over the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Michael Pineda made the start and was dominating.  The Yankees offense had six hits but no player had more than one hit. 

Pineda pitched seven innings giving up five hits and no runs with a walk and ten strikeouts.  Justin Wilson struck out the only two batters that he faced and Dellin Betances blew his second save of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings.  He gave up two hits and two runs with two strikeouts and he picked up his fifth win of the season. 

Nathan Karns pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and ten strikeouts.  Brandon Gomes pitched a perfect inning and Brad Boxberger lost his fourth game of the season giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and he didn't record an out. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI.  Mark Teixeira had a hit and an RBI, Garrett Jones had a hit and Chris Young drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had a hit and Stephen Drew had a walk.  Jones and Teixeira each hit a double and the Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Gregorius had a stolen base and Drew was caught stealing. 

Evan Longoria had a hit, James Loney had two hits and Steven Souza Jr. had two hits and two RBI.  Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, Kevin Kiermaier drew a walk and Curt Casali had a hit.  Cabrera and Casali each hit a double, Souza Jr. hit a homerun and the Rays were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Boxberger committed an error. 

In the first Rodriguez hit an RBI single and Teixeira hit a sac fly to make it 2-0 Yankees.  In the ninth Souza Jr.  hit a two run homerun to tie the game at two.  In the bottom of the ninth Flores hit a sac bunt and the pitcher Boxberger had a throwing error and the winning run scored.  The Yankees won the game 3-2 and for the second straight game won on a walk-off.  It was their third straight victory overall.  The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.
