The New York Yankees losing streak hits five as they fall out of first place



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 2-1.  CC Sabathia started and pitched well and the offense did practically nothing again. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up nine hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Sabathia lost his ninth game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Nick Goody pitched a scoreless inning giving up a walk and he struck out one.   

Danny Salazar pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with five walks and eight strikeouts.  He won his tenth game of the season and Cody Allen pitched 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts and picked up his 23rd save of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Chase Headley drew two walks and Mark Teixeira had a hit.  Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI, Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk and Chris Young drew a walk.  Beltran hit a double and McCann hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Gardner was caught stealing. 

Jose Ramirez had two hits, Francisco Lindor had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Chris Johnson had a hit.  Carlos Santana had two hits, Jerry Sands had a hit and Giovanny Urshela drew a walk.  Abraham Almonte had a hit and an RBI, Roberto Perez had a hit and drew a walk and Mike Aviles had a hit.  The Indians were 2-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the second McCann hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Lindor hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the sixth Almonte hit an RBI single to give them a 2-1 lead and that was the final score.  The Yankees will try and avoid the sweep on Thursday night.
