The New York Mets lose to the Boston Red Sox



The New York Mets were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 9-4.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched pretty well.  The Mets had six hits and no one had more than a hit. 

Syndergaard pitched five innings giving up six hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out five.  Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk, Buddy Carlyle pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with one of them being earned and he walked two with a strikeout.  Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts. 

Alejandro De Aza drew a walk, David Wright had a hit and an RBI and T.J. Rivera had an RBI.  Yoenis Cespedes had a hit, Lucas Duda drew a walk and Neil Walker drew two walks.  Ty Kelly had a hit, Wilmer Flores drew a walk and Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and drew a walk.  Johnny Monell had a hit, Juan Lagares drew two walks and Matt Reynolds had a hit and drew a walk.  Reynolds and Kelly each hit a double and the Mets were 1-13 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Lagares, Reynolds and Walker each had a stolen base.  Lagares and De Aza each committed an error and Granderson had an outfield assist. 

In the fourth Travis Shaw hit an RBI single to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Reynolds had an RBI walk, Lagares stole home and Wright had an RBI single to give the Mets a 3-1 lead.  In the fifth Brock Holt hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 3-2 and in the sixth Chris Young hit a three run homerun to give the Red Sox a 5-3 lead.  In the eighth Sandy Leon hit a two run single to push the lead to 7-3 Red Sox.  Rivera hit an RBI groundout in the eight to cut the lead to 7-4.  In the ninth Aneury Tavarez hit an RBI double to make it a 9-4 game and that is how the game would end. 

The Mets record fell to 7-8 with a couple of ties and they will take on the Miami Marlins in Port St. Lucie on Monday afternoon.
