New York Yankees fail to sweep the Minnesota Twins



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium and the final score was 7-1.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and he didn't pitch that well.  The Yankees offense only managed a couple of hits. 

Eovaldi pitched six innings giving up six hits and five runs with three walks and four strikeouts and he took his fifth loss of the season.  Luis Cessa pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk, Richard Bleier struck out the only batter that he faced and Kirby Yates pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Tyler Duffey pitched eight innings giving up two hits and a run with eight strikeouts.  He won his third game of the season.  Brandon Kintzler pitched a perfect inning. 

Mark Teixeira had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Hicks hit a double and Teixeira hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left one man on base. 

Eduardo Nunez had two hits and an RBI, Robbie Grossman drew two walks and Joe Mauer drew a walk.  Brian Dozier had two hits and two RBI, Trevor Plouffe had a hit and an RBI and Max Kepler had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Juan Centeno had a hit and an RBI, Danny Santana had a hit and an RBI and Santana, Dozier, Plouffe, Kepler, Nunez and Centeno each hit a homerun.  The Twins left three men on base.  Nunez was caught stealing. 

In the third Santana hit a solo homerun to give the Twins a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Dozier hit a two run homerun to make it 3-0, Plouffe hit a solo homerun and Kepler hit a solo homerun and it was 5-0 Twins.  In the seventh Nunez hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 6-0.  In the eighth the Yankees got on the board with a solo homerun by Teixeira to cut the lead to 6-1.  In the ninth Centeno hit a solo homerun to make it 7-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees won the first two games of the series and lost the last one.  They will open a big four game series with the AL leading Texas Rangers on Monday night.
