New York Yankees even series in Chicago with a rout



The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night.  The game took place at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 9-0.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Brett Gardner had four hits to lead the Yankees offense which had a total of 20 hits. 

Tanaka pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up six hits and no runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  He won his sixth game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with a strikeout. 

Carlos Rodon lost his seventh game of the season pitching five innings giving up 12 hits and six runs with five of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out three.  Chris Beck pitched two innings giving up four  hits and he walked one, Michael Ynoa pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with two of them being earned and he struck out two and Dan Jennings pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout. 

Gardner had four hits, Carlos Beltran had three hits and an RBI and Alex Rodriguez had a hit.  Mark Teixeira had two hits and two RBI, Starlin Castro had two hits and drew a walk and Chase Headley had three hits and two RBI.  Rob Refsnyder had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Austin Romine had two hits and an RBI.  Rodriguez, Romine, Beltran, Teixeira, Refsnyder, Hicks and Gardner each hit a double and Headley and Romine each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 5 -18 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base. 

Adam Eaton had two hits, Jose Abreu had a hit and Melky Cabrera had a hit.  Brett Lawrie had a hit and drew a walk, Alex Avila had a hit which was a double and the White Sox were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Anderson and Ynoa each committed an error and Eaton had an outfield assist. 

In the second Beltran hit an RBI single, Rodriguez reached on a fielding error and a run scored to make it 2-0 Yankees.  Headley hit a two run homerun in the third to extend the lead to 4-0.  Teixeira hit an RBI double in the fourth to push the lead to 5-0.  In the fifth Romine hit a solo homerun to make it a 6-0 game.  Refsynder hit an RBI double in the eighth and Hicks hit an RBI double and it was 8-0.  In the ninth Teixeira hit a sac fly to make it 9-0 which was the final score. 

The teams have split the first two games of the series and will play the rubber game on Wednesday night.
