New York Yankees blow big lead in a bad loss to the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 12-6.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and pitched great but then the rain came and after a delay he couldn't come back and the bullpen blew the game.  Gary Sanchez led the offense with three hits and four RBI and Didi Gregorius had two hits and two RBI. 

Pineda pitched five innings giving up four hits and no runs with no walks and two strikeouts.  Anthony Swarzak pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and four runs with two strikeouts, Tommy Layne pitched to one batter and retired him and Tyler Clippard pitched an inning with two strikeouts.  Adam Warren lost his third game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and four runs with a walk, Chasen Shreve pitched not recording an out and giving up two hits and four runs with two walks and Blake Parker pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out two. 

Marco Estrada pitched four innings and gave up five hits and five runs with no walks and two strikeouts.  Scott Feldman won his sixth game of the season pitching three innings and giving up three hits and a run with five strikeouts, Jason Grilli pitched an inning striking out two and Ryan Tepera pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Chase Headley had a hit, Gregorius had two hits and two RBI and Starlin Castro had a hit.  Brian McCann had a hit, Sanchez had three hits and four RBI and Headley hit a double.  Sanchez hit two homeruns and Gregorius hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-2 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Headley committed an error. 

Devon Travis had two hits and an RBI, Josh Donaldson had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Edwin Encarnacion had two hits and three RBI.  Michael Saunders had a hit and an RBI, Troy Tulowitzki had four hits and two RBI and Russell Martin had two hits and three RBI.  Melvin Upton Jr. had two hits and drew a walk, Ezequiel Carrera had a hit and Travis and Saunders each hit a double.  Tulowitzki and Encarnacion each hit a homerun and Martin hit two homeruns.  The Blue Jays were 5-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the first Gregorius hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Sanchez hit a solo homerun to make it 2-0.  In the fourth Sanchez hit his second homerun which was a three run homerun to make it 5-0 Yankees.  In the fifth Gregorius hit an RBI single to push the lead to 6-0.  In the sixth Donaldson hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-1.  Tulowitzki hit a two run homerun and it was 6-3 Yankees.  Martin hit a solo homerun and the lead was cut to 6-4.  In the eighth Encarnacion hit a two run homerun to tie the game at six.  Martin hit a two run homerun and the Jays took an 8-6 lead, Travis hit an RBI single to push the lead to 9-6 and Donaldson walked to make it 10-6.  Encarnacion grounded into a force out to make it 11-6 and Saunders hit an RBI double making it 12-6 all in the eighth. 

The two teams have split the first two games of the series.  The final game of the three game series will be played on Wednesday afternoon.  The Yankees will then be off on Thursday and head to the West Coast to take on the Angels beginning on Friday night in Anaheim.
