New York Yankees are defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-1.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well, the bullpen pitched very well.  Aaron Judge was the only offense. 

Sabathia pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits and four runs with three walks and a strikeout.  Sabathia lost his third game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched to one batter and retired him, Luis Cessa pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits and he struck out three and Chasen Shreve pitched to one batter and struck him out.  Tyler Clippard pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

J.A. Happ pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out six and won his third game of the season.  Dominic Leone pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk, Jeff Beliveau pitched to one batter and struck him out and Ryan Tepera pitched an inning striking out two.  Roberto Osuna pitched an inning striking out two. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Judge had a hit and an RBI and Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk.  Chase Headley had a hit, Chris Carter drew a walk and Ronald Torreyes had a hit.  Judge hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Jose Bautista had three hits and an RBI, Russell Martin had two hits and Josh Donaldson drew a walk.  Justin Smoak had an RBI and drew a walk, Kendrys Morales had a hit and two RBI and Troy Tulowitzki had two hits.  Kevin Pillar had a hit, Darwin Barney drew a walk and the Jays were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Martin was caught stealing. 

In the third Bautista hit an RBI single and Smoak drew an RBI walk to give the Jays a 2-0 lead.  Morales hit a two-run single to make it 4-0.  In the fourth Judge hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Wednesday afternoon.
